Using ladders?

OMG I keep falling down ladders they kill me more than the wildlife.  How do I safely climb down?  You don't know how dumb I feel asking this question.

Hold down 'shift'. If you do not start sliding down, then you need to reposition yourself a little bit which can be tricky. Very gently touch 'W' or 'S' (depending on which way you are facing) to move just a little bit. Then try 'shift' again.

We all start somewhere! I didn't know how to do it either, if it makes you feel any better.

If you place a ladder where you keep falling, the second ladder will catch you.

climbing ladders down seems easiest when you have a block (fullblock or anything that's a full side facing the ladder) on the other side, then you can just position yourself between ladder and block and it'll work flawlessly.
