Reduced normal gear drop from drifters?

Recommended Posts

Caius,

Apologies for the automatic translator's English, I wanted to ask the most historical players of the game if you too have noticed a decrease or absence of rusty gear drops by Drifters?
Let me explain, I love fighting them but since we switched to 1.18 I will have already killed about 200 drifters (maybe more but consider that I don't play VS every day) and despite all these kills, both in mines, in caves and in the overworld none of these have ever dropped me a single normal gear, but only linen and some time gear (currently thanks to them I already have 15 of these).
While even if a few times already in 1.17 some drifters occasionally dropped a normal gear. But with 1.18 absolutely nothing.
Does this happen to you too? Have you noticed the same anomaly? Or is it intentional and I missed the patch note?

About my match:
New world at the launch of 1.18
Single player
Class: Blackguard
In worldgen I increased the growth rate of trees to 1x , set the number of deaths to infinite and eliminated the limit of 20 uses of the time gear as a bindpoint. The rest I left by default.

Mod in Use
- Ancient Dungeons
- Better Ruins
- Workbench expansion
- Ceramos
-Simple HUD Clock
- Better Firepit
- Animal cages
- Auto Map Markers
- Alloy Calculator

I don't think the mods are the problem, but I put them in before anyone asked me, also I know that BetterRuins and AncientDungeons should have a lot of gears in them, but in my area I currently don't have many ruins and dungeons not even hearing them starting an alarm and they are full of mobs already at the entrance and since I don't have an armor I avoid throwing myself in the middle for now xD

The "harvestable" quantities in drifter.json are the same in both 1.17 and 1.18. I play peacefully though, so that's all I can say. :)

Le quantità "raccolte" in drifter.json sono le stesse sia in 1.17 che in 1.18. Suono tranquillamente però, quindi è tutto quello che posso dire.:)

In fact, for better or for worse, I also read the Changelogs and I hadn't seen anything, but I repeat, I killed at least 200 of them all live, therefore with video confirmation as well and I never opted for a single gear from the drifters, but only those thunderstorms, which makes me really weird and I'm seriously considering a bug.

For this I ask confirmation if others besides me have noticed the same thing.

Ho ottenuto ingranaggi arrugginiti dai vagabondi nella 1.18. Non molti, come due o tre, ma cadono.

Le piccole possibilità hanno la tendenza a strisciare. Penso che tu sia solo sfortunato.

Thanks for the answer, I spent the weekend killing other drifters but not even a single gear for now, and it seems really strange to me to have a nice hoard of time gears (which should be rarer to drop) and never drop any a single classic gear.
At this point I really hope it's just bad luck, because if it were a bug I wouldn't know how to fix it and being a blackguard I need to use traders. :)

I don't think Drifters are actually meant to be your main source of gears. It's nice when one drops, sure, but it is so easy to just go to a nearby trader and give them stuff.

I had an artisan trader near me in my 1.18 world. They sell like 4 or 5 sets of tapestries, each with 3 or 4 individual pieces, and completing them unlocks a lore entry; so I bought them all, over time. It's over 100 gears in total cost. But it wasn't a problem. Each time I went to check for new inventory, I carried some gems (from sifting bony soil), some beeswax, and some blue clay and fire clay, and sold whatever the trader wanted at the time. By the time I acquired the final tapestry piece, I had not only bought them all, but made an extra 150 gears on top just from selling easily-acquirable stuff.

So much easier than grinding Drifters :D

That is really strange.

Have you tried posting in Discord about this? You would get more eyes on it.

Two things that come to mind: you *could* make a copy of your save, then use the copy to test out...

  1. what happens with the mods turned off.
  2. what happens if you switch your class to Commoner (because that one does not have any modifiers).

If it is a bug, maybe there is something with the Blackguard's modifiers that is causing a conflict (although I cannot imagine what it would be). But, yeah, it is really strange that you would be getting Temporal Gears but not even one Rusty Gear.

But is there a way to change the class in an already started game?
I will definitely try all your advices, maybe in the weekend when I have more time :) You have been very helpful :)

There used to be a way to pull up the character creation screen which *should* allow you to change class. I believe the command was:

.charsel

Please use your copied save though. I've not done this in a long time and do not have access to the game right now to verify that I'm remembering correctly.

ETA:

From Wiki, looks like you can only change class once!:

Quote

After joining a new world the player enters the Character Creation screen, where the player can choose one of 6 classes. Alternatively the player can run the .charsel command to enter the Character Creation screen again, but only once! In case you need to re-select your class on a multiplayer server, get in touch with the server admin and ask them to run the /player [name] allowcharselonce command for you, after which you will be able to use the mentioned command.
