Chickon_20 Posted February 27, 2024 Report Posted February 27, 2024 (edited) This is a Guide on how to build an easy and cheap killbox / bunker (I designed it myself). You are required to at least have access to copper tools already. (I´m not really experienced at posting stuff online and English is also not my main language, so please correct me if I make any mistakes) Building Materials You´ll need: ~ a Stack of any solid building blocks 9 slabs of any kind 4 stairs of any kind 4 ladders of any kind 36 trapdoors 4 doors (1*2 of any kind) 1 dry grass 4 firewood a bucket of water some storage (any storage will work) Tools You´ll need: a hammer a chisel a shovel (for digging dirt) an axe for breaking misplaced trapdoors and doors tools for breaking the building materials (in case you misplace them) Building it First, dig a 9*9*3 hole (you may need to flatten the terrain around it). (the packed dirt is just for illustration) Build a fire pit in the middle. Fill the corners with water (on the with packed dirt marked spots). Place ladders in all four corners (exactly like in the picture below). Build a 5*5 ring out of the building block you´ve chosen at the same height level as the terrain around the pit. Replace 4 of the building blocks with stairs (like in the image). Fill in the empty space with slabs (facing downward). Carve of a layer of the middle slab using the 4*4*4 chisel brush. Carve a hole into the middle using the 4*4*4 chisel brush. Carve of parts of the inner edge using the 2*2*2 chisel brush. You need to place trapdoors (it will make drifters and other think that they can walk onto that space). First, place two parallel rows of trapdoors, which face sideways from the trapdoors (so you don´t get stuck on them). Add two more parallel rows. Place trapdoors at the stairs, each facing the stair they´re placed at. Fold down the trapdoors. Place doors on each of the stairs. Build a 2 block high wall out of the building block you´ve chosen. Build a roof out of the building block you´ve chosen. Add storage. Add necessities. You´re done building it! Now it´s ready to use! How to use it Just get in when the temporal storm starts and fuel up the campfire (through the hole). To cut up the drifters corpses, sit down right next to the hole and cut them up (through the hole). You can also use it catch wolfs and bears and cook! That´s it! Please leave a review if you have any questions or issues. Edited February 28, 2024 by Chickon_20 I finished it! 22 2 1 3

TheRealFlynn Posted April 1, 2024 Report Posted April 1, 2024 (edited) so worth the investment of time and materials. got a temporal gear the first storm. 1.19.6 working well Edited April 1, 2024 by TheRealFlynn 1
Chickon_20 Posted April 13, 2024 Author Report Posted April 13, 2024 Thank you for the 1k views and keeping this guide up this long. Maybe I should make another guide. 3 1
Vratislav Posted May 10, 2024 Report Posted May 10, 2024 Have anyone tried this or similar design to be built in a cave (like in a crossing of multiple caves providing solid feed of monsters to your location) to harvest Jonas parts from sawblade locusts?

Maelstrom Posted May 10, 2024 Report Posted May 10, 2024 I'm not sure sawblades spawn regularly enough to make it worth the effort. But I don't spend time underground like a dwarf either. 1

Double-headed drifters are a whole lot better source of Jonas parts. I get 2-4 JP per storm. Maybe crank the storm frequency, if that's an option? 1
Chickon_20 Posted May 10, 2024 Author Report Posted May 10, 2024 Why not. It functions as long as there is firewood or another fuel thought refueling can become a problem. 1

I was avoiding fighting drifters during temporal storms till now so I haven't much experience with these guys. Then for my purposes the surface killbox may be sufficient, I've just built it, so I will try it this way .
Chickon_20 Posted May 15, 2024 Author Report Posted May 15, 2024 I've noticed some problems with the killbox in the more recent versions. So I announce: I'll be making a new version very soon! 2

r4d6 Posted September 17, 2024 Report Posted September 17, 2024 I am currently trying it for the first time in the middle of a Heavy Temporal Storm. The Drifters are killing each other more than the campfire because they keep trying to throw rocks at me. I do get hit by rocks quite often, even if they hurt way less than what the melee attacks would do. It is near-impossible to actually cut up any of the bodies, as the sheer mass of drifters keeps moving them, and then you right-click the campfire whose hitbox occupy like 90% of the hole.

Yeah that's the main problem rn. This is why I'm redisyning it.

Second, would you mind if I made a video on this, of course giving credit to you?

The campfire doesn't attract them, but it is mandatory to be able to deal enough damage to the drifters, as otherwise dead bodies can eat hits that were meant for living Drifters.

Just for damage that doesn't destroy the loot table. 2. Sure why not. Mind sending me the link once ur done?
Echo Weaver Posted December 5, 2024 Report Posted December 5, 2024 (edited) Does a pit kiln do more damage than a campfire? That was a suggestion in a different killbox thread. I think it wouldn't have the hitbox problem that the campfire does, though I haven't tried. I like this layout. Seems like it would be a good base for a multi-story home. Thorfinn Posted December 5, 2024 Report Posted December 5, 2024 Maybe try kind of a quadrant pattern? They should path towards you to the fire of whatever type, and once all the baddies in any quadrant are dead, you should be able to cut them up, then move to the next quadrant.
Echo Weaver Posted December 6, 2024 Report Posted December 6, 2024 What is the function of the water?
