This customizability is one of vintage story's strong points. Bro do NOT touch that movespeed value, please man, you have no idea what you're doing, the wolves are the least of your problems! 2

It's got decent protection for most common enemies that you'll encounter, and it doesn't weigh you down or throw off your aim that much. Experimenting in 1.20 I found that Hunters wearing chain is an incredible combo as the hunter hardly loses any accuracy in chain. Edited November 29, 2024 by Maelstrom

Really? Interesting. I may have to give Hunter a proper playthrough then, although it may well be my least favorite class. The weaknesses are big pet peeves of mine.

The mining sounds worse than it is and the melee it doesn't seem like it amounts to an extra swing either (maybe on the higher tiers), so it's kinda moot.
Maelstrom Posted December 3, 2024 Report Posted December 3, 2024 Missing the extra ranged/melee damage is like 1 additional hit for lower tier drifters and 2 hits for higher tier drifters. I've noticed the blackguard penalty for harvesting wild crops and resin to be frustrating at times, especially when the RNGods decide to piss on your parade.

Oof. I really like melee, so this is the tough sell for classes like Malefactor and Hunter. Clockmaker at least has the bonus against mechanicals, and I don't like bells...though admittedly I'm not really sure how effective that bonus is. 9 hours ago, Maelstrom said: I've noticed the blackguard penalty for harvesting wild crops and resin to be frustrating at times, especially when the RNGods decide to piss on your parade. I'm probably just an oddball in the category, but I've never really had issues with it. Maybe it's because I have hoarding issues instead. Either way I've often wondered if the penalty to foraging and hunger should've been a little higher, in return for a bit more of a health/damage boost.

Maybe it is going from blackguard to hunter, but not from commoner to hunter. I haven't played blackguard, so I don't know if they can 1 shot surface drifters in melee, but other classes cannot. I crunched the numbers at some point for a few tiers, but I've already forgotten other than the surface drifters, and being those are the most common annoyances, that was a deciding factor for me. To me the blackguard movement penalties seem too extreme, especially since I don't find running long distance to be fun, anything that makes it take longer is bad. Even though I play hunter, and I do love my recurve, I still spend a lot of time sword & board. OTOH, I have not done any calculations for the bowtorn or shiver. Edited December 5, 2024 by Krougal
Thorfinn Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 So, when's the next installment of the Rudo-venture?

Meaning that commoner has to throw one more spear than hunter or hit one more time than blackguard. I believe that is for lower tier weapons as well. At higher tier weapons (iron or bronze and above) instead of 2 additional hits to high tier drifters for commoners it drops to one additional hit.

Nah, it isn't like as a hunter you can 1-shot much with a bow either. I mean recurve and steel arrows, maybe a rabbit. I don't think you can 1 shot a surface drifter still. Like I said, I still melee a lot, the drifters just come too fast and too many, easier to just sit in a choke point with sword and shield (or even throwing spears with shield). Bow is awesome for hunting, especially things that run away from you. I think these bonuses make very little difference, which is fine by me, because truth be told, I hate class systems. Funny for a kid that grew up on DnD and the like, but once again, the older I get, the more shit I hate. 1
