Professor Dragon Posted August 20 Report Posted August 20 (edited) This is a cautionary tale on the combination of wgen commands and elk travel. I'd just finished travelling from my northern base, south past the equator, built my first "hot zone" base and partially restored a nice limestone cathedral. Time to come home, by elk. The game has updated by 1.22.7, so I was only slightly suprised to find that a ruined structure had the white and red question mark blocks on it. "No problem" I thought. "This isn't an area that I care about, and I know the command": <Boink> /wgen regen 1 It was at this point that I discovered that the wgen command does not care if you are mounted on a tamed elk. Really, I should probably have known better. The elk was loaded with some of my southern goodies for use in the frozen north, and I was seven days into the return journey. I'm not even sure exactly what I had in there. Elk, gone. Sturdy leather equipment, gone. Southern treasures, gone. Bone flute, useless. Entity count revealed . . . nothing. What is interesting is that it left me as if I was riding an Elk in the air, and retained the Elk map marker. Small and bitter consolations. This is reproducible - here it is repeated on my test world: (I suspect that this is a contributing factor to disappearing Elks when time switching in the Devastation. Yup, done that also.) I'm considering writing a Suggestion to have the wgen by default ignore tamed mounted elks - they should be treated the same way as the player and their inventory - not to be touched and unless explicitly called for. So, there's your salutary lesson - don't mess around with wgen if you don't know what you're doing. Especially not on your main world. Professor Dragon. Edited August 20 by Professor Dragon 3

Oh, well played, @LadyWYT, well played. I haven't learned the lessons of the past well enough. Edited August 20 by Professor Dragon

Teh Pizza Lady Posted September 27 Report Posted September 27 (edited) SO.... There I was minding my own business waiting for the temporal storm to roll in. The sky turned that sickly color that meant it had started, the terrain rolling in on itself. And there, past the haze of distortion, walking calmly in the midst of the chaos -- Thunderlord Dave. Just existing... doing his thing. I paused to take a screenshot when something slammed into me. A shiver, fast and mean, already lining up for a second pass. Well that decided things right then and there. I bolted for the door, fumbled with the latch, threw myself inside and slammed it shut. Safe. Or..... So I thought. I heard screams, the panicked kind, coming through the walls. The Blackguard was still out there, fighting alone against the storm. I heard footsteps on the stone and threw open the door. I wasn't leaving her out there to die. Well that decision lasted about half a second when a drifter came walking on through, catching sight of me immediately, both fists already swinging for my skull. I think I actually saw stars there for a second. Oh no, what did I let in??? Then the Blackguard burst in, sprinting for the door and straight into the drifter's swing. She went down hard, face first, actually. Dead before she even finished falling. ... and fall she did, right into me. I think she actually pinned me to the floor giving the drifter ample opportunity to just keep swinging away. CONGRATULATIONS, YOU DIED! I didn't even get to take the screenshot, either. I'm sure everyone feels better for that. As the airlines remind us "Make sure your mask is secure before seeking to assist others." Decision points leading to disaster: Monitoring for Temporal Storm warnings did not take place or were insufficient Planned joint effort for Temporal Storms were not in place or insufficient Communication between parties was insufficient Fall back plans for emergencies were not in place . . . or insufficient Weapon readiness and preparation . . . Okay. There's a pattern emerging here. Have you ever taken a tally of whether this Blackguard is more trouble than they're worth? Hmmm . . . . ? (Oh, sorry. This is polite company here, so pretend I didn't ask that. Ooops. Sorry. I'm sure it's win-win. Apart from the pies. <Ahem>) EDIT I've just appreciated that someone killed by his own sheep may not be best placed to comment. Edited September 27 by Professor Dragon 1

Novadegree Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 Save me some reading folks, do any of these stories start with "This one time at band camp"?

He wasn't my sheep until after he had killed me. He was just meandering around on my mountain top construction project when he head butted me into next week. As revenge I put him in timeout and made sure he impregnated the females.

Maelstrom Posted October 13 Author Report Posted October 13 (edited) Take the Long Way Home No I'm not talking about that most excellent song by Supertramp. No siree! Recently I needed some more bauxite to build more cementation furnaces. Said bauxite repository is almost 1,000 blocks south of spawn which is about 2,500 blocks south of my home. So I figure out what I want to take to buy/sell to the treasure hunter and survival goods traders down that way and set out. Mind you it's January and my home is north of spawn, but I figure I'm cool coz I got my winter furs on. So I set out with almost empty inventory, bandages, crock of food and a chest. I make it to the treasure hunter which is a bit south of spawn to pick up some cracked vessels at a good price (thank you Day Trader mod) and set out to the survival goods trader before hitting up the bauxite. By the time I get to the bauxite I've got only the bowl of food left. The crock is empty. Coz it only had 2 servings in it when I left and I thought I'd be back before starvation threatened. At this point I think it'll still be fine, might be hearing the seraph's complaints about hunger, but nothing major. So I mine out the bauxite and head home. Did I mention it was winter? I did? good. Did I mention that it's been a day and a half since I left? No? Well it has. Welp, I eat the last of the bowl after passing the treasure hunter and begin to fear that I'll be limping home by slapping bandages to solve the starvation damage problem that will be arising. And dang that snow makes for slower travel (should have that of that sooner I thought to myself) and the cold makes for eating just a slight bit more often too. Ugh, I hope those bandages hold out just enough to make it to my kitchen and I'm not even half way home as the seraphs cries of hunger have been bleeting for a few hundred blocks. I'm thinking of how far I should go before I start slapping that first bandage when there's this large, lumbering brown thing I spot outa the corner of my eye. GREAT! Wasn't planning on battling a bear! At least it's a wide open plain and no murder holes around. Guess I'll employ the Monty Python maneuver and hopefully I get some low grade meat to nom on. I land a great many hits (necessary coz hunter's aren't the greatest at optimizing damage with the falx) while the beary beasty lands a couple of lucky shots on me, but I survive only to continue starving while I figure out how to eat these meaty morsels. Remember the inventory list at the beginning? Did you see a torch or firewood anywhere there, coz I certainly didn't. So I grab some grass and a couple of sticks, figuring out how to offload enough stuff from my inventory to gather said grass and sticks to build the firepit aaaannnnd... Wood. Where's a tree? Wwwwwaaaaaaayyyyyyy over there! Only a little 100 block scamper and back. Seraph bleeting of hunger pains the entire way. Chop the log, place the firewood start the fire and desperately wait for the infernal meat to heat, all the while that wonderful serenade of a starving seraph echoing across the land. I wait for the entire carcass of 6 bush meat to cook eating it fresh of the spit, pick up my stuff and resume my run home. That feast of bear meat lasted maybe 1,000 blocks and the starving seraph serenade begins yet again! I'm still a good 1,000 blocks from home and thoughts of bandage slapping returns when HOLDUP! That thar tree don't look right. And it wasn't. It had a trunk full of shitake and dryad saddle all over it! Saved by luck yet again!!! Hallelujer! Harvest the shrooms and off on the run again! A few hundred blocks from home I see another bear chasing something to the splendid mating calls of lawyers in lov.... no not Jackson Browne, my starving seraph. I take a second or three to consider another bearocalypse and decide that by the time I'm eating Smokey the Bear I'd be home feasting on some preserved meat and veggie stew, so I let Smokey live another day. The end. Thank god I'm not some bottomless pit blackguard! I woulda never made it home. Edited October 13 by Maelstrom 1 3
hostage Posted October 14 Report Posted October 14 Horse Cult To put it bluntly there was an old friend of mine that got me into vintage story, but the way he got me into the game was a bit more deranged. Him and, about, six friends were playing on a vanilla server when they found a place to build this castle like structure. Only weird dilemma inside was effigies and rituals around every corner to this horse that was trapped inside a stable. I'm talking there's an entire underground church they built just for worshipping this random horse, it wasn't scrambled and put together either. This had so much detail it was breath taking, they put more time into worshipping a horse than they did building their own walls for the castle or their homes inside. I don't have any screenshots because this was shown to me in person, if I had pictures I would share. You simply had to be there to understand what I'm talking about. 1
Teh Pizza Lady Posted October 14 Report Posted October 14 Need to log out? Punch a Blackguard! Not much to say. I got tired and my blackguard friend needed to do laundry IRL. Hit ESC to log out, clicked... nothing happened. I hear over the Discord call. "Ow! you jerk!" MFW I did that in the wrong order. 1 2
