Maethius Posted January 18, 2025 Report Posted January 18, 2025 Kind of in the title. I'm finally about to buy my first elk and was wondering if the poor thing than teleport. I have a translocator near my base that would cut 5k blocks off of my journey... it would be great if I could pack up my elk and jump through it for a real head start! 1

If the mechanic hasn't changed between the .pre versions and the stable release, you cannot ride on top of the elk through the translocators, but guiding the elk on top of the translocator pad will transport it. Fun fact: That functionality hasn't been added in 1.20, translocators have been able to transport entities and even blocks or items that enter the teleportation zone for a pretty long time. Maethius Posted January 18, 2025 Author Report Posted January 18, 2025 Very cool! Thank you for the info! Honestly, I've never tried to take another living thing through a translocator before. I can't recall seeing any videos on it, either! 1
LadyWYT Posted January 18, 2025 Report Posted January 18, 2025 Hmmmm, I've not tried it, but given what @Brady_The said I suppose it's possible. Depending on where the translocators are situated though, it may be much less effort to just ride for those 5k blocks instead of sinking time and effort into making the translocators elk-accessible. The elk is pretty fast and 5k is only a half-day or less of riding. Translocators, on the other hand, tend to be deep underground in rather claustrophobic places, which means you'll probably need to do a lot of digging on both sides to get your elk in and out(I don't know how much you could cheese with the whistle). Elk need a 2x2 minimum for navigable space.
Maethius Posted January 18, 2025 Author Report Posted January 18, 2025 In this case the Translocator appeared on the surface in a small tower near my base; about 200 blocks away! I suppose my poor elk would have to manage the stairs, though...
LadyWYT Posted January 18, 2025 Report Posted January 18, 2025 Oh, that might be more manageable then. If you've claimed your elk with a medallion, you should be able to call it to you with a bone flute. If it can't pathfind to you, then it will just teleport instead. The range is limited, but as long at you're not going something like 100+ blocks away from the elk and trying to call it, it should work. 1 1
Maelstrom Posted January 22, 2025 Report Posted January 22, 2025 There's still the problem of the TL on the other side being buried, potentially very deep underground. 1
idiomcritter Posted January 22, 2025 Report Posted January 22, 2025 ugh! ride the elk into the TL, and dismount. elk disappears thru the TL (you) step into the TL Meanwhile the elk TL's back from the destination TL... because yeah it was standing on the destination TL still! Point being, needs to be a cool down how how quickly a TL can be used/activated (giving time to get at the elk before it teleports back!) (another game within the game challenge?) or, a TL can only be activated with an expiring ticket of some sort (kinda like a terminus, cept maybe cheaper than burning a tgear) 2
