Sertyu Posted April 2, 2025 Report Posted April 2, 2025 Is it rare? beacuse in my current world i have AT LEAST 10 large veins colse to my home, and one below it, and for all i have played i have barely used any of it. also, if you look at the stats, peat is objectively better than firewood, as it burns for a second longer(25s vs 24s) and at 900º instead of 700º, and i also like digging better than cutting trees so, any opinions? 1
idiomcritter Posted April 2, 2025 Report Posted April 2, 2025 I wouldn't call peat rare exactly. in temperate climates it seems plentiful, though like clay can initially be missed in sighting it different fuels for different things... personally I like peat when cooking food
Ceridith Posted April 2, 2025 Report Posted April 2, 2025 I wouldn't say it's rare, depending on geography, but it is finite in the sense that you can deplete it within an area. Firewood on the other hand, you can always plant saplings and get a renewable source of wood going, which you'll probably want to anyways once you start needing charcoal. Personally I prefer to save peat for faster pit kiln firing, or for making quicklime if I don't have charcoal yet, as firewood doesn't burn hot enough to bake crushed lime into quicklime.
HalfAxd Posted April 2, 2025 Report Posted April 2, 2025 I use peat before firewood when I have it... I'll have large stacks of it whenever available... I use wood for building...
Thorfinn Posted April 2, 2025 Report Posted April 2, 2025 Yeah, peat is a quite common deposit. Turn on the option to let lightning start fires, and you would be amazed at all the peat you used to have. 6

Krougal Posted April 3, 2025 Report Posted April 3, 2025 Yeah, I prefer peat for cooking. Actually I would really prefer it for brewing since I loves me single malt scotch me do.
Broccoli Clock Posted April 3, 2025 Report Posted April 3, 2025 For some reason this is what I use for the different fuel types... Wood / Firepit Peat / Pit Kiln Charcoal / Bloomery Brown Coal / Crucible & Forge ..it's not set in stone, if I don't have brown coal or peat I just use a different fuel type. 1
