i just built my first ever pulverizer but as soon as i put the gear on, it only worked for a few seconds then just stopped. can someone help explain what i might have done wrong? image.thumb.png.513d6b97d1fdf78702419dcc1833a6c8.png

If the large gear spins when you remove the small gear, and and the pulverizer spins for a bit when you add the small gear back, then it sounds like your windmill isn't producing enough power for the pulverizer to operate.

Wind rotors need wind to move, and the current wind speeds fluctuate over time. If the wind isn't very strong, you won't get much wind power.

The Large wooden gear is not supposed to just be a "large" Angled gear. The mechanism is based on speed and torque, where the large wooden gear in your presentation is sacrificing input torque for higher output speed. However, the windmill cannot provide enough torque after conversion to counteract resistance of driving the pulverizer. You can try to put an Angled gear in replace of the large wooden gear and see if it works.

BratWorst has an excellent video on Vintage Story power.  Tried getting a link, but goggle and network at work won't let me find it.  It's a GREAT explanation of VS mechanical power.

I wish windmills were more effective, I was looking forward to creating an intricate setup of all the automated machines with transmissions so I can cycle which one I wanted to use only to find out if I add a large gear into it to be able to split things up for each machine that it couldn't even power a quern anymore. Was a huge let down, and when I went to look how other people did it they have these really stupid looking systems with windmills on every side of their tower that clip through each other and I don't want to make something ugly and unrealistic like that. So despite having all these tools to make a fancy automated set up I can't actually use any of them because even a windmill with 5 sails added is too weak.

From the principle, you have two main ways how to do it with one windmill:
1. to power the large wheel from the side (and not from the top), that allows distribute power into 3 machines without loss of power,
2.or to use two large gears, first on the top of the tower to get smaller speed and second at the bottom to distribute it to 4 machines.

I will add that you want to place your windmill at least 60 blocks above sea level to maximize the power from the windmill.  Also limit the number of axles you use to transfer power from the windmill to the machines since each axle consume 1 point of power and since you want to use only one windmill you need to conserve as much of that power as possible.
