Wind chimes could be added in order to gauge windspeed quickly and effectively, and function as a form of decoration!

I've personally had issues with finding the best time for Helve-Hammering, and having a chime that changes in frequency/volume depending on the windspeed would be a very helpful notifier. Perhaps the chimes could come in different material types and create different sounds?

If you are using the HUD Clock mod it already shows current wind speed, but for people who prefer a more immersive experience with fewer screen overlays, this seems like a great idea!  Hey, @SaltyWater this appears to be right up your alley, as you've got a bunch of experience with sound-based mods like Forest Symphony.  What do you think?

Windchime would be a wonderful immersive indicator of wind.  The only immersive vanilla "windchime" currently is to place a windmill rotor someplace that is easy to access it.

Oh! Oh! What we need is a Weather Windchime mod.

"Always know the weather by the sound of your wind chimes without leaving the safety of your bed!"

Clear tones = sunny

Vibrato tones = rainy

Staccato tones  = icy

Dull tones = snowy

Receding tones = tornado

🤣

For me, the helve hammer is my wind chime. 🤣

In all seriousness though, I love the idea. I think wind chimes would see the most use as interesting ambient decorations, but there's something to be said for just having something that's there as a nice decoration rather than something specifically useful.

As for an alternate use, I recall there being a wind chime mod or two for the other block game, that made the chimes deter phantoms. Based on what's outlined in the "Ghosts" short story here on the forums, loud noise/lots of noise seems to attract monsters, so wind chimes could function as some sort of distraction for said monsters. Since there's no wind underground I doubt you could really exploit a mechanic like that very well(although you never know), but I'd wager that it could also be frustrating to deal with depending on how it was implemented. What's the point of decorating if monsters are going to constantly trash it, after all.

Shoot a windchime with an arrow, and a percentage of rust creatures in the area can turn to that instead of you. Kind of like the piston traps for Wardens in Minecraft, except temporary.
