As a grizzled middle-aged software engineer, I hate lines of code as a measure of productivity 😁. Some of my most productive work has involved REMOVING thousands of lines of code in a refactor that makes things more reliable and adds functionality.

I agree but layperson management where I am right now disagrees. Either way I'm not sure why folks are trying to discredit my opinion with the ever-moving goalpost. Is that easier than accepting criticism about Tyron's presentation?

Depending on the language you are programming in, if that's per day, that's pretty good! If you've amassed a good selection of snippets over the years and are using an editor that manages them well, that might be a little on the weak side.

If you are talking code maintenance, that really is pretty impressive. Figuring out what someone else did in the code can be tough.

Please find me a software engineer writing 10k lines a day lmao. That's so stupid for so many reasons

My criticism of this criticism is that this whole predictable cycle annoys the crap out of me.

Dev suggests project.

Players who don't like it decide that dev is not capable of managing their own effort and business model and transforms the proposed project into a major threat.

When other fans push back with their respect of dev and/or game, conversation descends into increasingly pointed claims that dev is incompetent and current game is shoddy.

Then we move on it how this is just expressing an opinion and shills on the thread can't handle criticism of their beloved game.

It's just so predictable, and there's no point to any of it. Nobody is going to convince everyone on a thread of anything. Just accept that some folks are going to disagree and move on.

Yes it is. I have exceeded the number of reactions I am allowed for the day or I'd have just given this a like. I didn't think it was a thing. Had I known I wouldn't have gone tossing them around the builds section with reckless abandon.

The creds argument is a bit silly for gaming forums. Go on LinkedIn or something and share resumes if you guys really need to have a dick-match :P I've removed and refactored tons of lines of code too; I try to do things with as few lines of code as possible, of course input-validation and error-checking tend to add a lot of complicated code. I can't even talk smack about others sloppy coding since I've spent a lot of time cleaning up my own older sloppy code and sitting there scratching my head going "How is this even working? How does any of this work?" but it did the job at the time, got modified over the years and eventually comes to a point where it is easier to just scrap it and start over.

Oh yeah, and it made me forget why I looked at this thread in the first place; is the PR stable enough to play and has it broken a lot of mods? I haven't played in quite some time and I felt the urge, but I like a lot of what I see in the patch notes for the latest. Do I just wait for the stable release?

It’s not going to kill you, but it’s not perfect either. However, I’ve heard looking for bugs is pretty fun, even if you can’t poke them with a stick.

That reaction limit is the bane of my existence!

Kind of a snoozefest considering the timeframe. Lol'd at the fix for crashing on right clicking empty pot with empty bowl. Don't want to sound like I'm some expert but it's funny to see what sounds like null reference errors when Tyron presents so pompously.

I think it's rude to come to a forum for a game that obviously a lot of people like and say, "Your developers are pompous slobs." Why? To satisfy your own sense of self-importance?

In light of recent events, I want to point out that the game "by our developers":
1 exists
2 works
3 is updated frequently
4 captivates a lot of people
5 captivates for a long time
Even if you're more successful at work, you're being toxic and getting a corresponding reaction.

Don't be silly. Start dropping 500 and 1000 line snippets into your code and you can get there before noon. There's a reason to bash the heck out of your code, and make it generalized, precisely so you can do this with code you are confident has already been debugged.

But really, I was speaking a bit hyperbolically. Making something from scratch is a different critter. And that's what's happening here. Take a look at the code sometime. It's on git.

RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!

:D

These creatures do exist, so I hope we'll see them in the game. Personally, I don't care so much for giant squids, but I really want to see spider crabs.

They are wonderful creatures both to observe and to eat.

Has anyone had issues with the Resonance Archive not spawning?

I found the trader, gave him the pickaxe, got the map, no red X. Map went poof.

When I talk to him again, I can tell him I forgot, and he goes through the dialogue, but nothing happens.

Eating out of a bowl causes an instant crash. I even tried with a fresh start.

This is not playable!

It is fixed but I'm guessing we will have to wait for RC3

Minecraft has real fish, and each one is different. Vintage Story has flying 3D animated confetti instead. I think this is a major step backward in Ocean life development.

Minecraft also has pixelated particle based critters as ambiance as well like fireflys, however they only added them in recently and lets admit that Mojangs development pace is abysmal. I don't think this should really be Mojang vs vintage tbh.. I am 99.5% sure that these are just ambiance and there will be more fish to be added as fishing is fleshed out. It seems pretty well known in the community that fishing and ocean development is a goal of the developers, so I wouldn't hang your hat up too soon on the coral reefs.
