Heh heh heh...this is a certain story location from chapter two, and will appear in all worlds that have been updated to 1.20 or later, assuming that lore content is enabled. If you are not currently pursuing the main story, you can venture closer to take a peek at what it is, but I don't recommend venturing into the location itself until you actually have the mission to go there.

Spoilers:

Spoiler

The area in question is known as the Devastation. It's essentially a giant permanent rift in the world that's turned the nearby area into a monster-filled rusty wasteland, and was created by the actions of a certain individual. Very creepy and dangerous--make sure you are well-prepared before venturing in!

Thanks.  The first time I saw it in a different world was after about 75 hours and a new translocator trip to quite a distant location.

This world has only 4 hour so I thought it was a strange bug or something.  I don't think I'll look at the spoiler, but I will bookmark the page incasse I want to come back to it.

If you messed with the "story location distance" world setting, that's likely the cause.

This too, which I hadn't considered earlier. I was looking at the settings earlier and the shortest you can set the scaling is something like 15%, which is crazy, especially for locations like this. I did some testing on this specific location a while back, just to see how close the player has to get before it started to come into view, and the rough estimate was something like 1-2k blocks. It's an absolutely massive location, and one primary reason the default distances are as far as they are; distance is a handy way to keep players from finding things they weren't meant to find before completing certain portions of the main story.

I did mess with story distance. I'm not planning on using this world long so it isn't very big, My desktop computer is getting fixed, the sound just dissapeared, so I'm using my little laptop i only use while traveling.  I'm suprised it plays Vintage story so well. It bairly meets minimum  requirements and plays on medium setting just fine.

That's coz Tyron and team have a focus on optimizing the game to work on potatoes.   Many, many frustrations with TOBG are addressed in this game, performance being one.   Ease of modding being the other major issue.
