I have the usual leftover 18 liters of borax solution and I want to make more leather.  I understand that I should be able to add 32 liters of water and 13 borax to get the solution to 50 liters.  The problem is I can't seem to add the additional water.  I have tried using a bowl to add one liter at a time, to the barrel with the leftover solution, by using ctrl+right click but it isn't working.  I don't know what I am doing wrong.  The bucket is on the floor in the corner of the room.  Next to it is the barrel with the weak tannen solution - open no hides currently.

Once I do get the water in, next I'll add the borax & seal like normal - just stuck on the water!

Suggestions?

You can’t have more than one type of liquid in a single barrel, as far as I’m concerned.

Another note; if you put salt in the input slot of an empty barrel, there is seemingly no way to remove it. If anyone has evidence otherwise, let me know.

I use another barrel and mix up more lime/borax water then transfer it to the first barrel.

This is what I do--have two barrels going for the same liquid. One set of barrels is meant for fresh batches, where each barrel contains 50L of appropriate solution and I stuff as much hide as possible in. If there is any solution left over, it gets dumped into the secondary barrel and used to process smaller batches of hide(or dye cloth, in the case of strong tannin).

I just tumbled into this one, and it turns out you can just break the barrel to get your salt back.

Yeah, I came to the same conclusion, but I wish there was a better way to do that.

I usually have around 3 barrels per tanning stage. When the fluid in all 3 of them get low, I use a bucket to put all that remains into the left-most barrel, and then refresh the other two.
