Want to make my base out of stone Ashlar but can't get lime because it doesn't exist

Well before that dragon guy beats me, Welcome to the forums!

lime comes from 3 main ways

1. collect shells and grinding them up in grind stone, though you’ll get only a little bit.

2. Find limestone/chalk stone area (you might noticed different areas have different rocks, such as granite) which can be thousands of blocks away but there’s like a infinite supply, and you still need to grind them.

3. Buy them, I’ve personally only seen them at survival good traders.

I’m assuming you need lime to make mortor, for Ashler block, this requires a barrel which is a post copper age item which requires a saw for planks.

You can in the mean time use ashler cobble stone, which just needs rocks and clay, or mud bricks.

Which one? I think there's like...at least three of us that lurk around, maybe more.

But yes, welcome to the forums @Nicholas Rathke! As @Slam already noted, there are other options when it comes to acquiring lime.

Marble can be ground into lime as well, but honestly, given it's rarity, I don't recommend doing this, unless building isn't one's thing.

Typically the route I opt for if I can't find limestone or chalk. If I'm not mistaken, commodities traders will sell it too.

Unless one doesn't have any meaningful supply of shells while limestone, chalk and borax are in places closer to the edge of the world and there is stacks of hides waiting to be turned into leather before they rot.  And backpacks are the first thing said leather will be used for.   Sooooo, yeh.   Maybe marble shouldn't be used for mundane leather making purposes.  :/
