jerjerje Posted December 2, 2025 Report Posted December 2, 2025 I have been listening to the soundtrack of this game and I have noticed some negative comments under some tracks. So I wanted to do a poll and see how people generally feel about the music. I personally like the music a lot. It is mostly cheery with some more tense undertones, which seems a good representation of the (surface) gameplay. The game is for the most part rather relaxing, but there are always the horrors lurking below the surface. When I started playing, I felt the song "Hallowcroft" was a bit tense, but I've grown to like it a lot. It also helps that the track only plays in the afternoon/evening. Oftentimes, that track starting was a good indicator to check the time and make sure I get back home before sundown. What do you think of the soundtrack? 2
Cleitus Posted December 2, 2025 Report Posted December 2, 2025 I honestly love it! It might just be the crazy hours I have in the game, but I frequently find myself replaying the soundtrack in my head at work. I have a few favorites, but I don't know the names, just what they sound like. Overall, I think they did a great job of giving the game its own identity in that regard. 1

I feel like the "<song title> was too <insert negative description here> at first, but after listening to it more I grew to like it a lot" phrasing probably sums up a lot of the disliked tracks. For myself, I like the entire soundtrack, although some tracks I enjoy more than others. I know the summertime music I wasn't a fan of at first, since it sounded a bit circus, but it did grow on me, partly due to the juxtaposition of crawling out of a deep mine into sunlight/surviving a tough temporal storm only to get blasted with what could possibly be one of the most cheerful, whimsical tunes ever. The music pieces for story locations are just spot on though. 1

Heart_Afire Posted December 3, 2025 Report Posted December 3, 2025 I enjoy the music but I find that even with my settings turned down it's often just too much for me. I have incredible hearing and being randomly blasted by the sound actually put me off the game for a bit when I first downloaded it a long time ago. That said, I've yet to hear a song in the game I truly hate.
hstone32 Posted December 3, 2025 Report Posted December 3, 2025 I love all the music, but there is certainly a lopsided distribution of music you hear. I personally could do with hearing the evening and midnight music tracks less often, or else have more diversity in the tracks that play during those times.
Venusgate Posted December 3, 2025 Report Posted December 3, 2025 I typically play with music off (which is my typical for all videogames) and listen to my own music/stream YT. As for the 'goodness' of the music, it's above average; I only have two complaints: volume equalization, and track length. There's a little of a dissonance for me when the length of the track is shorter than the activity (or 'scene' if you want to get meta) that it starts during. I am starting to collect longform music on youtube that fits VS well, but that would be my one suggestion for improving the tracks on VS: 10 minute+ tracks.
Broccoli Clock Posted December 3, 2025 Report Posted December 3, 2025 Here's the thing, I turn it off. Although I do this for every game I play. I want to hear the environmental sounds, not the music. Is the music good? For the most part yes, although I do find that it's can be a bit "overly whimsical" at times and that includes the tuning cylinders you find. As I don't listen to the music in game I'm not sure if all the soundtrack is "available" through the tuning cylinders.
