Nathan Flaminio Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 Thought of another thing that would be nice to have, a separate tag for foods and drinks that make them unusable, but also makes them not turn to rot. We were decorating and contemplating what we should build in our little village, and some of the ideas we have aren't going to work well (like making a bakery with food displays and putting a barrel of Sake in our Survival Trader's basement because he needs a nip now and then to help calm his nerves, and only Sake will do). Sometimes you just want to put a pie on a table because it looks nice, until it doesn't. It would be nice to have a second set of food in the creative menu, or a way to change food into a display item so as to not have to worry about it going bad. Also, on a completely unrelated note, I chiseled a toilet (because everybody poops), but can't put water in it. Would love to have water in my toilets, lol. 5

Using coloured glass over a blue-ish stone might work? You could also put the water level quite low. I hear that in the U.S. toilet water levels are really high, but in my country the water level in the toilet is pretty low, so the water would be in shadow anyway. 1

We do like to be extravagant in many cases, and toilets are no exception, but not every toilet is built equally. Have you considered sticking glass in the toilet? Sure, it's not water, but it looks like water, at least. Clear, fresh, clean water too, unlike the dirty stuff you get from the ponds outside. I think this is the better option, perhaps, rather than having essentially two sets of food items cluttering up menus. Granted, the items in question could just be creative-only, but I think using a temporal gear to turn a food item into permanent decoration would be a fair price. 1
williams_482 Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 A temporal gear seems very expensive for something with no practical value. Perhaps there could be a way to spray a food item with some kind of sealant to render it inedible but immune to rot? Coating it in glue would make sense, and doesn't require adding a new substance.
Bruno Willis Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Seems like it could be a very low-level Jonas tech: something which was hoped would stave of the rot, and does... at the cost of making the thing inedible and functionally useless. It could be cheap for Jonas tech, and basic to make, requiring mid-game rather than late game metallurgy. It'd be nice to have a few more uses for Jonas tech, and I feel like V.S. gains a lot from offering sub-optimal uses for the things you've gathered. 2
Nathan Flaminio Posted February 4 Author Report Posted February 4 I had considered blue glass in the toilet, but it would be nice to have a feature to put smaller amounts of water into small containers akin to the way barrels show different levels depending on how full they are. I suppose the coding for something like that would be a pain. I was thinking maybe just coating the food with resin.

Revisiting this now, but if you haven't seen it in the 1.22 patch notes yet: Quote Tweak: Allow liquids to be chiseled only in creative mode The toilet thing might actually be possible in 1.22! 1

Glue, resin (like the OP said in his previous post), or I was thinking possibly beeswax, since you seal your crocks (food) with it anyways. 1
