KingPandaa Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 I keep finding myself annoyed that when you try to knap anything other than flint, you can only knap with the same type of rock. When I'm low on inventory and trying to replace tools, being left with one rock each of multiple types means I just cant do anything with them, making them useless. Is this an intentional feature for some reason, or is it something I should put a suggestion to the devs to change?
LadyWYT Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 To my knowledge it's not rock-specific, unless it's either a bug or a mod-related issue. The only requirement, I think, is that the rock needs to be hard enough to knap with. Hard stones should be able to knap other hard stones and flint just fine. Obsidian is the exception, since it's harder than the standard rock and thus requires another piece of obsidian for knapping.
KingPandaa Posted Wednesday at 02:23 AM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 02:23 AM No, if I have say, an andesite stone and a piece of flint, I can ctrl+click the flint onto the ground and knap it with the andesite, but if I ctrl+click the andesite, it will go on the ground in storage mode. If I click it with another andesite it will start knapping, but if I click it with the flint or another type of rock, it just sits there.

However, when using something other than flint, you do have to have a stone of the same type to access the toolhead menu but then can revert to using any other stone to do the knapping portion once you've selected the tool you want. Seems like a bug, that's very odd if intentional design.

I've had day 1 trouble finding reeds, clay and other day one items but flint has not been one of them. Just by picking up whatever flint I run across on day 1 I usually end up with at least half a stack of flint. About the only thing more plentiful than flint at 10am on May 1, Year 0 is sticks. Unless you play some sadistically masochistic world like frostpunk or Arrakis.
