Vintage Story is very much about the passing of seasons, and the changes to the world those seasons bring. We also all bring our own perceptions and preferences to how we play the game, and how those seasons affect us.

So my question for you lovely folks is, what are your favourite activities to do (or hold off on doing until) when each season comes along?

I'll start with mine:

Spring: Flower & seedling collecting! It's the perfect time to start the your fields in game but also a wonderful time to add more nature energy to your area.

Summer: Exploring! Wild forage is available en mass, there's not a lot to do at the farms, and those long daylight hours are perfect for extended trips.

Autumn: Cooking! I love turning all those harvests into stores for the winter. Filling shelves with pies, loading up the crocks, and bringing in the end of year honey to maybe start up a barrel of mead.

Winter: Little chores! The quiet of the winter is a time I hold off on doing most of my fiddly little chores like organising my storage, sifting soil, and processing iron. A few hours doing the mundane tasks followed by a brisk walk through the snow makes me appreciate the quiet.

How about you?

Spring is typically when I start cleaning out whatever stuff in the cellar is getting old/starting to go bad in order to make room for fresh stuff. It's also a good time to start getting the fields ready for planting or heading out on short adventures since cold weather is no longer an issue. I'll often start to build new stuff around this time as the snow melts off, since it's a little easier to visualize things when snow isn't covering everything.

Summer is prime time for exploring, though I often find myself hunting quite a lot during this time as well. Also a good time for hauling lots of ore back to base, or building stuff given there's lots of daylight to work with.

Autumn is when I focus on bringing in the full harvest of grain, vegetables, and fruit, as well as preserving foodstuffs for the winter, if I haven't started already. Sometimes I'll go on mining trips during this time as well, but it's not unusual to be chopping woodpiles and refining charcoal during this time either while trees are still sort of growing.

Winter is when I spend most of my time at the forge and refractories, processing ore and refining steel. The wind is ideal for powering machinery and the heat makes dealing with the cold rather easy. Late winter is when I'll plant fruit tree cuttings, if I have cuttings to plant. Ironically, despite winter not being an ideal time for adventuring, I seem to end up going on more adventures during this time than in better weather. It's not unusual to be doing story content--chapter 2 especially--during the dead of winter.

in spring i go explore and EXPAND AND FIND NEW THINGS!

in summer i like to do the same thing, maybe hunt a little

in fall i start to worry about food, and everything related to winter

in winter i rot indoors until im either hungry or i think of something to do (just like real life! wow, so immersive!)

i want to find a suitable place for a main base, but i can't find a proper place that isn't infested with bears / in an unstable zone. And it also looking really nice while also being somewhat close to base to stop me from dying (irl from boredom) of transferring loot 😞 i think this is where my luck dries out here..

In spring I like to plant my crops and harvest berries and fruit trees.

By the time summer rolls around all my farming related chores should be done. Its time to use the long days to explore, prospect, do a little mining and build without having to return to base or build a little shelter before I can really do anything. Also start some alcohol from the first harvest of grain/berries/fruit.

Autumn is time to store the year's harvest, stock up the cellar and fill all my crock pots to last through winter.

Winter is time to enjoy alcohol and do indoor chores like organize my chests, smelting any leftover ores and smithing a set of spare tools. Also a good time to do some mining and clear out those massive iron veins, it's not like shorter days matter underground.
