byo13 Posted Saturday at 06:32 PM Report Posted Saturday at 06:32 PM Hey guys. I've been playing for a while and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it's a game glitch in newer versions, but I have an isolated room full of pots filled with stew and they sometimes show as the food is going to spoil in 5,6 days, for instance. When I pick that up and put it on the ground again it shows 17,3 days. Am I missing something?
Shoom Posted Saturday at 07:24 PM Report Posted Saturday at 07:24 PM Food spoils a lot quicker when kept in the player inventory, I can only assume the player is warm and stinky and it makes the food spoil faster, also ambient outside temperature will influence the spoil-rate, you'll see a faster spoil-rate during day time compared to night time. I'm personally not seeing any difference from storing on a shelf or on the ground in my cellar. 1
byo13 Posted Saturday at 07:53 PM Author Report Posted Saturday at 07:53 PM Yes, it's weird and I'm worried that I'll have to be picking up and putting back down food now. The spoilage is meant to be 16 to 17 days to the pots stored in that room so far, but sometimes it shows as 5 days until I pick them all up and put the down again. I will move my base to somewhere else to see if it's something related to that spot. My current base is inside a small hill so maybe the height is triggering that behaviour somehow?
Demoncyborg Posted Saturday at 09:22 PM Report Posted Saturday at 09:22 PM on shelves and vessels you can see the spoilage rate on the tooltip, make sure your food is in a crock not a pot (unless thats what you meant) as it'll keep it for much longer in a cellar. as the day progresses the temps rise and then drop at night, and this works on your cellars and food storage too, so just keep that in mind too! i don't think your base location should change much, unless you're in the tropics.
LadyWYT Posted Saturday at 09:22 PM Report Posted Saturday at 09:22 PM I wouldn't worry about it. As long as they're stored in a cellar, they should be fine; whatever crock you carry in your inventory you should easily be able to empty within a few days. If you're intending that food to last long-term though, I'd recommend sealing the crocks with rendered fat or beeswax, as that will greatly prolong the shelf life.
byo13 Posted Sunday at 02:23 AM Author Report Posted Sunday at 02:23 AM Thank you all for the tips. I am using crocs now and it seems to be working fine. Storing stew in pots is kinda unintuitive for me though. The tooltip seems to change when I put the pots down (3x the time to spoil) I was able to reproduce the issue many times since my last message, even in my new base, even a few seconds ago. Thanks again. It's a wonderful game no matter what.
Demoncyborg Posted Sunday at 11:21 AM Report Posted Sunday at 11:21 AM like the others said, the tooptip in your inventory is going to show the food spoiling drastically faster on your person due to your body heat. and the cookpots are really only meant for creating and dishing out those servings, not so much storing them as their spoilage rates are really bad compared to a sealed crock. is that what's happening? or is it something like, the food on the shelf says 5 days, you pick it up and put it down, now it says 12 days?

Yes, exactly that. It's not happening anymore with crocs and I don't know exactly what triggers it for me but I see the tooltip when the pot is on the ground showing 5,7 days, in my examples, then I pick them up and put them down and they are showing 3x more days to spoil. I'll keep an eye if it happens again. Thanks.

Indeed. I have been changing the storage room. When I stopped changing it, it seems to not be happening. It's been a long time since it doesn't happen. Probably that was the cause, since I haven't been doing any house modifications now. I just found it weird that I had to update the spoilage stats by picking things up, and it was happening a lot and with all the pots directly on the floor. 1
