Darian Kimberly Posted Tuesday at 11:47 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 11:47 PM I have spent 2 hours trying to get my items back, getting them, immediately dying again because a pack of wolves is literally camping my items several chunks away, by the time i pick my stuff up, im almost dead before i can draw my sword because they just SIT THERE ON TOP OF THE PILE. THEY DONT MOVE. THEY DONT DESPAWN. This makes the game unfun. I dont want to abandon all of my backpacks and tools just because these dogs will not move tf away from the pile of items. Im lucky to get one hit before death every time and this is with a full suit of bronze armor.. 1
Darian Kimberly Posted Tuesday at 11:59 PM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 11:59 PM I got my stuff only for one to outrun me on the way back a 13th time. This is horrible.
dakko Posted Wednesday at 12:42 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 12:42 AM Have you considered... ? - keeping inventory at death - maximizing the time items remain before they despawn - using a mod, such as Death Corpses, that allow items to be contained until you have time to retrieve them There is also a section in the forums for suggestions. 2
LadyWYT Posted Wednesday at 01:10 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 01:10 AM I think most every player has been here at one point or another. Playing with the keep inventory option turned on can alleviate the frustration, either as a permanent solution or until you're skilled enough at combat to tackle that kind of situation without a high risk of death. There's also the option to set creatures to passive, so that they'll wait until you attack them before they actually try to fight you. Increasing player health and decreasing creature strength are also options, though it should be noted that to my knowledge, the former cannot be changed after world creation. It's also not a bad idea to keep extra bandages and weapons at your base as a sort of emergency kit, as that can help make the task of retrieving lost items a little easier. You might also consider trying to trap some of the wolves in a hole, as that can make them much easier to deal with as well. /worldconfig deathPunishment keep is the command to turn on keep inventory after world creation. /worldconfig deathPunishment drop if you want to switch back to dropping items on death. 5
EnbyKaiju Posted Wednesday at 05:30 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 05:30 AM Keep inventory on is definitely my recommendation too. The game has enough punishment mechanics in place as it is, so even keeping your stuff upon death doesn't feel like you're making it too easy on yourself. Your armor still gets wrecked, your satiation/hit points get nerfed, and you have to run all the way back to do what you were doing. I play a tweaked Wilderness settings (all the danger levels/storms/gear uses/food are more difficult, but I keep the map & inventory on death) and it's more than enough challenge but not to rage-quit levels. Losing all your progress to death-camping mobs is why I stopped playing Ark all those years ago, so I learned not to get myself into that state again, haha. 2

Provider Posted Wednesday at 07:05 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 07:05 PM Best way to go is to get it to aggro to you BEFORE you pick up your stuff so you can lead it away. Then, if you die again or escape, you can go get your stuff freely. 2
egole thompson Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago Have you tried grabing a few Spears and pillaring a few Blocks next to the Wolves? normally if they can't reach you and you damage them by throwing Spears they will run away from you and you can go retrieve your Stuff. just wait for a Moment until they calm down before getting of the Pillar.
