mox3 Posted August 24 Report Posted August 24 I have been playing with the same mods for the past 30 a just recently every time i load my world my firewall starts blocking most off my mods Does any one knows what i could do?
Professor Dragon Posted August 24 Report Posted August 24 (edited) Hello @mox3, More details, please. Examples: * What do you SEE (messages, errors, behaviour etc) that tell you there is a problem? For example, what makes you think it is an issue with your "mods" and the "firewall"? A screenshot would help. * Which operating system? * Which firewall? * Private computer or playing on a multi-player server hosted by someone else? * What have you tried so far? For example, adding VS folders to exception lists - which ones? Thanks, Professor Dragon. Edited August 24 by Professor Dragon 1
mox3 Posted August 25 Author Report Posted August 25 Hi, I’m playing on a private computer, but I’ve opened my single-player world to the internet so my friends can join. I’m using Windows 11. I’ve tried starting Vintage Story as an administrator and allowing the game through Windows Firewall on both private and public networks. I’ve also reinstalled all of my mods. However, when I start the world, I get these pop-ups from Windows Security: Some features of the Vintage Story Client may not work because we cannot verify who published PurposefulStorage.dll that the application tried to load.” Some features of the Vintage Story Client may not work because we cannot verify who published AnimalCages.dll that the application tried to load.” Some features of the Vintage Story Client may not work because we cannot verify who published JasonLibPatches.dll that the application tried to load.” thank you for trying to help me out 1
hjvtdev Posted August 25 Report Posted August 25 I don't know if you can disable this windows "feature" entirely, but you can go through each mod dll file properties and check "unblock". 1

mox3 Posted August 25 Author Report Posted August 25 i tried to do it but i dint see any unlock box on the file, i've selected the mods on my windows defender to not be checked by the antivirus and the problem still remains, also i eliminated the mods from the cache file from the games files Every time i turn the game on i get the notification if i allow the app to make changes on my PC, that start hapenig after i puted the game to start as admin, but i have turned off that option already

P.D. EDIT Confusingly, Windows Defender and Windows Security got their names similar when it came to Windows 11. The test we may need is to temporarily turn off Windows Security as a whole. (I'm still Windows 10 myself, so sometimes mix up the names.) The important point is to "box the problem." Confirm which part of your computer is complaining, by turning things off and on. Even if we don't know (yet) how to fix it, if we can be sure that it is a specific point complaining, that would be useful. Edited August 25 by Professor Dragon
mox3 Posted August 25 Author Report Posted August 25 (edited) Well i just tried that and now i cant even open the game and i get these pop up “Part of this application has been blocked. Some Vintage Story Client functionality may not work because we could not verify who published VintageStoryAPI.dll, which the application attempted to load.” ok i just did a scan now on the CMD and now i can open the game again, but the problem still persists Edited August 25 by mox3
LadyWYT Posted August 25 Report Posted August 25 Out of curiosity, have you tried hosting a vanilla game to see if the issue keeps occurring? I'm not really adept at the server stuff so I'm not sure exactly what the issue is here, but I've not really heard of mods causing problems like this, which makes me think it's more likely an issue with the game installation, your computer, or perhaps the router. A quick google suggests that "failures to register at master server" errors like this could be caused by faulty installations or issues with the router setup, not just the firewall itself. 2
Solution Teh Pizza Lady Posted August 25 Solution Report Posted August 25 It's the Smart App Control or SAC, for short, that's messing with you. When an application tried to load an unsigned DLL such as a plugin, SAC shows the message "part of this app has been blocked". The solution is to turn SAC off. I'm assuming you are on Window 11 Home edition as Professional and Enterprise do not ship with this feature enabled by default. Bear in mind that turning SAC off is permanent and cannot be turned back on without reinstalling your operating system, though MS is considering making it a thing you can just switch on or off. Anyway, do this: Click Start button or press the WIN key on your keyboard. Type "Windows Security". Go to App & Browser Control. Under Smart App Control, click Smart App Control Settings. Select Off Accept the confirmation prompt and reboot your PC. Enjoy! If the above fails, make sure you are an admin on your PC. There might also be a registry setting you can change, but Microsoft warns that this can sometimes cause SAC to start blocking program files incorrectly...so it's kinda weird. 3

Professor Dragon Posted August 25 Report Posted August 25 (edited) 1 hour ago, mox3 said: At this point ill just pray for the problem to fix it himself, ty for trying to help me guys Love u all Thanks for your understanding. You've eliminated the major causes, which means (as you've guessed) that something funky is going on. I know that it is a bit of a pain, but next step may be a complete VS reinstall. Problems rarely "fix themselves" unfortunately. * Backup any Worlds that you care about. Two forms (A) The "Backup" of the world itself (.vcdbs) AND (B) the World Config settings (Pencil icon against world, copy to clipboard, save to a text file.) * Put both of the above to a safe space. * Take a list of Mods. that you have. * Uninstall Vintage Story completely. Check that files (including the Mod folder - everything) are deleted * Reboot * Download again the COMPLETE Vintage Story package. (Might be worth reinstalling the .NET framework at this point, but maybe not.) * Reinstall. Test a new, small world on vanilla before going any further. * If problems here at this point, then redo the above security deactivations temporarily as a test. If still problems, stop here. Something is very wrong. * REDOWNLOAD the mods from the sites, getting newest updates. Do not use your existing mod folder - there could be issues with them. * Load up HALF of your mods. Retest on a small test world. If problems, stop here. If not, load up the rest and retest. * Copy a copy of your world backup in place and retest. If problems, stop here. If not, done! Teh Pizza Lady Posted August 25 Report Posted August 25 12 minutes ago, mox3 said: Yes sir, the first time i check i forgot but i rebooted after Okay I believe you, lol. Try this: Click Start Type Terminal Select "Run as Administrator" Type citool.exe -lp Check for an entry called VerifiedAndReputableDesktop. Look for the property Is Currently Enforced. It should be false. If it is not, then turning off SAC didn't take the first time and you may need to try it again. Make a note of the Policy ID Click Start Type Event Viewer Navigate to Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > CodeIntegrity > Operational Look for the events that match with the date and time you see this issue occurring. Event 3077 is an enforced block, event 3076 is just an audit. Make a note of the Policy ID that blocked the files. It should be different but if it's the same as the one from the earlier steps then you might need to do something else. I'm not giving up because this is genuinely a Windows issue and will cause you troubles with other things, not just Vintage Story. 3
mox3 Posted August 26 Author Report Posted August 26 Turning off SAC worked im no longer getting any mod blocked by windows defender i just getting this wierd msg when i open my single player world to multiplayer, but my friend is still able to join with the IP
Phillip Susi Posted August 26 Report Posted August 26 I was going to say this doesn't sound like the firewall. A firewall blocks network access, not loading dlls. Also the windows firewall is stupid and you should just turn it off. If you don't want a program accessing the network, then either tell it not to access the network or don't run that program. It doesn't make any sense to run a program that is supposed to access the network only to have another program prevent it from doing what it is supposed to do. AFAIK, firewalls became popular on windows because microsoft insisted on defaulting windows to always running their file sharing program and it kept having security bugs, and rather than just disable the file sharing program, ding dongs installed a firewall to stop it from actually working.
Professor Dragon Posted August 28 Report Posted August 28 Hello @mox3, Just checking where this is at. To summarise, the original issue seems to originate with the SAC, as confirmed by disabling it. To progress this further (and keep SAC on, if that is your choice), you'd need to go through the steps outlined by Teh Pizza Lady (above). Find out what SAC is objecting to, and address that. For the new issue about logging in when opening the world to multi-player, I'm not sure of the impact of this message to you. However, if you plug that message along with "Vintage Story" into your browser search, the recommendations that come back should be a good starting point. P.D.
