crafting Fruitpress, why isn't it crafting?

 <===== this should craft a fruit press, but it doesn't.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? (I have hundreds of hammer and chisel durability, it's not that)

I'm not at my computer, but the one thing I notice looking at the recipe is that the fat must be rendered. Is yours?

yeah, I pressed H on every item and it says I can use them on every item

Weird, with nicely rendered fat, the only other gotcha I see is that the rod can't be gold, silver, cupronickel, or electrum but your rod doesn't look like any of those. Like you said, hammer and chisel shouldn't be it either. Those only need 30-40 durability. I'm stumped.

I'm considering trying to craft it with other materials in creative mode to check, but I genuinely don't understand either

it got fixed and I have no clue how, it just worked when I used pine ig?

Were you using some kind of modded wood for the planks before? There could have potentially been a soft mod incompatibility there, I suppose.

The more likely cause, I think, is that you encountered the pesky little crafting bug that sometimes renders things uncraftable--you'll see the item flash in the output slot before disappearing, and won't be able to actually craft said item. The fix, in my experience, is just reloading the world. Did you perhaps exit the world and take a break from playing when you ran into the problem, and started a new session later?

I had a bug pop up recently where crafting recipes wouldn't show up, restarting the game fixed it

might have been your case too

Yeah, there is that crafting bug where you put the things in the grid and the output shows up for a split second, then disappears like you can't craft it.  Relogging fixes that.  But it also looks like you were trying to use a hammer and chisel that were two different materials, so I wondered if that could be the problem.
