Elwood
Here is a basic mod that causes sheep to drop a single "carcass" block instead of exploding into a bunch of meat minecraft style. Intent of this mod is a proof of concept The idea is a single carcass item will drop which is processed back at camp where you have no threat of wolves and lots of storage. Animal Products 0.0.1 [1.5.2.1].zip - Carcass only with vanilla drops. Concept of a carcass drop. Animal Products 0.0.2 [1.5.2.2].zip - Adds items and recipes below. Concept of many raw materials for processing into other things. download version 0.0.5 here for VS 1.5.2.6 - Removed arrows until I can make them work. Fixed a bunch of recipe errors. added carcass for wolves and pigs. wolf carcass drops less meat and more sinew. only rams drop horns needed for composite bows. Updated textures. Thanks @Balduranne Items and mechanics Spoiler New items and recipes Item name Item description (from in-game item descriptions) Carved limb made with a knife and stick Combine with bowstring. A little better than a flimsy stick. Composite Limb made by crafting glue with a slab of horn, carved limb and sinew strip Combine with bowstring. A real bow with good stopping power. Recurve Limb made by combining glue and hide with a slab of horn, composite limb and sinew strip. Combine with bowstring. Well worth the time and effort. Bone from animal carcass No further use at this time Tendon from animal carcass Use a knife to cut into usable strips Sinew strip cut from tendon Hammer into fibers for thread, glue and rope. Also used to bind tools, bowstrings, and for composite bows. Sinew fibers hammered from sinew strips Combine 6 over a bowl then put in a fire to make glue. Or craft 3 horizontally to make thread. Sinew thread crafted from 3 sinew fibers Combine 6 threads vertically to make a rope. Or combine 3 thread and 2 sinew strips to make bowstring with loops. Future uses, sewing thread, fishing line. Sinew rope crafted from 6 sinew threads Currently no use except crafting equally useless lasso. Combine 4 in the top right corner and 1 on the left bottom to make a long lasso with a loop. Sinew lasso crafted from 5 sinew rope Currently no use. Sinew bowstring crafted from 2 sinew strips and 3 sinew threads Combine with stick for a simple vanilla bow. Or combine with crafted limbs to make bows. Carved limb, composite limb, recurve limbs are craftable. Horn from animal carcass Carve with a knife to get horn slabs which can be used to make advanced composite and recurve bows. Future use include tool handles and trade goods. Sinew Fibers in a bowl. Crafted from 6 sinew fibers and a bowl Cook in a fire pit to make glue. Glue is used for advanced crafting of composite and recurve bows. Future uses of glue include any tool construction. Sinew Glue from cooking sinew fibers in a bowl Glue is used for advanced crafting of composite and recurve bows. Future uses of glue include any tool construction. Horn Slab cut from an animal horn Used to make advanced composite and recurve bows. Future use include tool handles and trade goods. Fletching for arrows Not used yet. A knife with feather, bamboo or vine will create the respective fletching. Could add immersion and alternate materials. Game Mechanics Animal Carcass dropped by killing sheep. Sheep no longer explode dropping items. Place block and carve with a knife to get drops. Have storage handy because of the extra drops. Game modifications to vanilla. Mostly more bows and arrows. Original recipes unchanged. Fire Arrow crafted from any any arrow, fat and a torch. (The icon here gets painted over the base arrow) Adds base +2 damage. Future recipe should include adding linen or other fiber. Could include pitch if liquids like that are added. Poisoned Arrow crafted from any arrow and mushroom Adds base +2 damage. Future recipe should include cooking with a herb to get poison. Simple Bow (vanilla 3 dmg) Flimsy stick with some weak string. Make a strong bowstring using animal sinew and carve a better limb. Carved Bow (5 dmg) A little better than a flimsy stick. Made by combining a carved limb with a bowstring. Composite Bow (7 dmg) A decent bow made by gluing layers of horn and sinew onto a carved bow limb. Future uses. Ability to replace bowstring before it breaks and destroys the bow. Recurve Bow (9 dmg) Advanced bow made by adding hide and more horn and sinew to composite limb. Future uses. Ability to replace bowstring before it breaks and destroys the bow. May change recipe to gate this behind bronze. Recipe Examples Spoiler Just a few screen Captures of the more complicated recipes. Stroam
should change the title from concept to mod
tony Liberatto
Now to make this mod really great all you need id to render the carcass on the player back or shoulder. That would be really cool.
tony Liberatto
We are just waiting for you to add the wolf and Boar before we add this mod to the server.
Balduranne
Not sure if you're still working on this, but I'd be more than happy to help you out with textures/sprites
Elwood
Thanks @Balduranne I sure could use some help with textures. I also struggle with the shapes. Couldn't get the shape editor to do what i want so manually changed to blocks. I'm currently not making any changes to the mod but not abandoning it. I've been waiting for the game to mature a bit before I expand this mod. Many of the fundamental animal parts like sinew, teeth, bone should already be defined in the game even if they are not used yet. Modders should be able to use these base materials in their recipes. For example I don't want there to be a second version of sinew when the next release comes out. I'm also struggling with how to effectively edit json files. Its very time consuming and error prone using notepad++ and online json validators.
Stroam
Well, I'm usually available if you need help. I too want to see this mod develop. The items bit I disagree. It's not difficult to add your own items or to switch things around when the vanilla game adds similar items.

I already took the liberty of redoing most of the sprites (Everything besides the bows) It would still be nice to have a release for all animals before the game adds stuff like that officially. Luk
Hey this is a really cool concept! I particularly like the idea of repairing bows and making fire and poison arrows.
