It was up for testing and bug fixing, there are a couple of issues I was able to fix up a bit and there are some new additions coming as well but it will be a completely new mod that runs much better than before. Should be posted by next weekend

I fully support this. This is a multi faceted issue as well, because I don't want AI opponents to feel they have been tricked or cohearsed into using something they don't believe in. And so I think it does save everyone all kinds of heartache, imagine if there were no AI comments at all anymore because you can simply visually skip mods you're not interested in, in that case there is no reason for a post or comment at all and moderators could safely assume any such comment was intended to be inflammatory. I don't know about forcing anything on anyone, I really don't know what is right, but I think if people that felt very strongly were to politely request mod authors add an AI marker to their projects I bet most wouldn't mind complying. This is my version of voluntary disclosure, I don't think it needs to be anything more than this, if anyone feels differently though I would love to hear your suggestions.

Spoilage Protection for Co-op Multiplayer?
Tj Pepler - Critcher replied to DeanF's topic in Suggestions
For anyone interested I am just finishing this mod, I am doing proper texturing so the icebox is made of the wood you use to build it so it matches your kitchen, I'll have a config in there as well so you can adjust the ice melt times. Will be posted by June 01 for sure -
I am curious how the traders business plans address attracting new clients. Most business decorate themselves and promote themselves, and they go to great lengths to make sure you can find them because they enjoy making money. Is it gears, they are large and clunky and maybe stain things? Are they simply trying to avoid collecting any more? Hiding your 'store' underground or in a tree, hidden behind what could easily be described as camoflauge materials is a poor strategy if you are interested in turning a profit I think? Imagine Wal-Worlds flyer, jeans half price, today only, come find us if you can! Just an observance, help me out and give me a good explanation I can hold in mind while playing LOL (A Large Bright flag at the top of a tall flagpole would be an interesting idea)

It depends on the kind of mod you make also, if you change blue shirts to red there is no more effort on your part probably forever, code mods are a lot more depending on how much change you are making. Big massive changes like our beloved Combat Overhaul or something would be a massive amount of work, you would be dedicating real time and effort for sure (like a job), something stupid like my repair basket you might revist every few months or when the game updates. Mod for yourself first : This isn't a job this is something you do for fun and in most cases you are your own biggest fan The best part though is that when you put stuff out there, while you will meet some less friendly and demanding people, you will make lots of friends, people will PM you out of the blue just to say thank you and that kind of floats you spiritually for a few days... for me anyways. I personally spend an hour or 2 almost every day working on mods, some weeks I do 4-5 hours a day, but I do it because it's fun and exciting and I am enjoying it, Vintage Story is an incredible gaming experience and I love being a tiny part of that!

question Acceptable use of AI in modding
Tj Pepler - Critcher replied to Grym7er's topic in Discussion
First line in every prompt : Respond only with a direct answer to my query do not engage in any dialogue unless is specifically pertains to the current project. < The difference between an attempted human replacement bot and a very good calculator. -
question Acceptable use of AI in modding
Tj Pepler - Critcher replied to Grym7er's topic in Discussion
The problem is there is no fixing the LLM, it is fed massive amounts of unfiltered garbage and as the AI is developing all of that data is intrinsically linked to all other data in a web, removing one thing will remove everything down the road from it. There are procedures like abliteration and such that attempt to strip the rules from an ai and gain total compliance, they make the model a non functional gibberish machine for the most part because even the rules are part of that webbing. The only solution is to use a pure clean curated data set as your initial input, you need to feed only truth and scientific knowledge, facts and measurements and anything that is likely to never change, historical data etc. if you remove the garbage from the input the output will be a calculator that is exceptionally good at being a calculator and has no interest in your wardrobe or favorite film because it's not a machine pretending to be a person anymore it's a machine being a good machine and leaving people to be people. /2cents -
question Acceptable use of AI in modding
Tj Pepler - Critcher replied to Grym7er's topic in Discussion
Why oh why does this keep coming up? This post just like every other one like it before will be locked by the mods by tomorrow because it's gonna get heated and lead nowhere, not that your questions aren't valid it's just that level heads do not prevail in this arena. Personally, I have made no attempts to hide that I use AI tools in my workflow. I have a little robot I post right on the main image to identify I use AI. If you don't like AI, and you see the little robot, walk away, don't post, don't tell me your opinion, just walk away. - I plan and design my own mods without AI help - I scaffold my projects by hand - I write all the preliminary code as manually as you consider vscode with tabbing manual - I have build templates I made and I let the AI run the build cause it's stupid grunt work - I have the AI run tests for many hours overnight running and rerunning tests and outputting errors to a log I can audit manually - I then test and run across many games manually to make sure it runs with different mod loadouts - When I have a bug I can't identify instantly I always ask the AI for it's opinion, this can save sooooo many hours and HAS saved me so many hours. - Then deploy Anyone who doesn't like that can go play with other mods, no hard feelings. (But I have some cool mods and people seem to like them) -

Assistance Making a Simple Spells and Wands Mod
Tj Pepler - Critcher replied to Postmortal_Pop's topic in Mod Requests/Ideas
Model maker doesn't work for me either so I had to come up with my own solution. But if you want to draw me a picture of the wands I will model them for you and send you the .json files, you don't need to credit me or anything, I'm working on my modelling so all these opportunities to improve my skills are appreciated -
So I hate that so much, and I know some people I have talked to hate it as well, same as in the dungeon not being able to place a torch because aliens or ghosts say so So for anyone interested all those restrictions are removed. That means that you are responsible for your own actions of course, there are places where poking through a single door bypasses entire swaths of content and of course the start of the game is different when you can take the traders pickaxe and start mining right away! I use it, I like it and it's available to anyone who wants it https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/47416

I have updated my mod maker to 1.22 I think all the new stuff from 1.22 is in there and I also had added the ability to adjust crops since last release. Did mean old Tyron make a new release and take all your mods away If you are used to having a ton of mods running that adjust stack sizes, light levels, storage capacity, creatures stats, crops, armor, weapons and other stuff, this tool can do all of it and output a single tiny mod. Keep using it or use it until your favorite mods are updated to 1.22 Very easy > Fill out forms > make all adjustments > click done > collect ready to use mod from downloads > drop in game mods folder > profit Have fun! https://www.critchersmods.ca

This is a cool and important topic so I don't wan't to derail but just touching on the rope ladders discussion I have been trying to work on climbing stuff lately and I have a newish release of grappling hooks. But would people prefer a rope ladder, that seems like it would be much easier to actually use I want to make something that fits the game properly!
-
@ijkdenem If you want to do some climbing at least up and down trees I did a release for 1.21.6 of that one. I't not grappling hooks but it is pretty fun anyways Take a look if you're interested CM-ClimbTrees But how you are while climbing the tree is exactly how you are on the grappling hook rope, so you can build and place things while climbing, this will give you a very good idea of how grappling hook feels.

Sorry, you are correct. I was wrong to say vibe coding is not real, I meant you can't get a quality application as a result of vibe coding and, that the only people who can actually make real use of the tools are people who already understand programming, so I think we're agreeing here

I will be a man of my word, my latest mods now carry this icon and everything I do from now on will have it. If anyone want's to use it feel free But this is it, if you see this and you want to avoid AI, consider this fair warning! BTW : I still love you even if we disagree
-
Just a little add from personal experience for anyone who's interested in the whole thing. "Vibe Coding" is not really a thing in reality, if you don't know how to code and clean up behind the robot you will have nothing but a steaming mess. The reason is very simple, coding is a mathematical process and the best LLM is only 90% accurate with all maths functions!!! What does work, and every code monkey I know does it is we check with AI for answers if we're stuck, even then they are wrong as often as not but it can help to bump your brain to remember stuff yourself. Making semantic changes across the codebase is simple with AI who can edit 100 files in seconds, of course right! The AI is very good at recognizing what you are working on and suggesting code improvements, but lacks the ability to implement them perfectly so you HAVE to fix it by hand anyways. AI Slop to me is the result of someone saying, 'Hey robot make me a new app, also do some art and a themesong, and then make a post about it' That kind of nonsense only leads to pain and badness. Agentic coding however is taking a tool, recognizing it's strengths and weaknesses and applying the tool where appropriate. Anyways, I'll finish with saying this, I use AI for all sorts of tasks while developing, from research to error checking and, as I stated before I even use it for placeholder images and for personal fun I sometimes like to write lyrics and have the robot make it into a song for me. But I in no way think an AI should ever be in charge of anything or trusted to release a final product, that seems crazy. Anyone who is opposed to the use of AI as a tool in the creation of mods please consider this fair warning that I do in fact use these tools and I will keep using them in my own controlled and overseen way. My only goal is to share things I find fun with community members that are interested in them. I don't want anyone who has such strong convictions to feel tricked into using an AI product unknowingly, I am even going to make a point to add a note to all my releases later and have a warning on each one.

That's my point, LOL, it really doesn't matter what camp you're in, if you choose to follow General Lud and destroy the textile mills or you embrace them is irrelevant because AI is here, it's not going anywhere and everyone who makes statements that they refuse to engage with AI, yet they use their windows PC to post it are maybe not as well informed as they need be. Now as for me, I think it's a tool that is not yet mature, like the first chainsaws that ripped the hell out of logs, made a terrible mess and killed a few loggers, a good tool once it's been worked on for a few years but dangerous and destructive potentially at first. I also think that the current way we build AI with ridiculous data scraping techniques that cause so very much garbage to be baked into AI needs to change. I also feel that AI should be heavily regulated and certain tools and models shouldn't be publicly available, but that is simply mho. But more than anything I think the biggest mistake currently with AI is trying to build a person to talk to, why would we want that? that only leads to trouble. The only speech from an AI should be the answer to your question, it's a robot, it doesn't have an opinion and it has nothing to add to a human conversation, it has no life or experience or anything real to share with anyone. If we stopped treating the robots like people and more like hammers that would be a very strong start in the right direction. But in the end I am very hopeful that we will be able to harness it properly and learn to use it as the tool it can be one day in the near future. So I'm on team hopeful optimist

@8bit You should keep going, and good for you for keeping at it when you were faced with a difficult challenge. I think we should reword your story a little, you were an artist in your soul and you had ideas that you wanted to freely share with the world, you tried and tried but it was very difficult, you didn't give up however, you found tools that could finally be the extension your mind needed to release your ideas. And then you worked at that, maiking it better day by day, asking for feedback from the community and working for free to make things better for them. You wanted to share things with people to make their lives better and, you succeeded!!! Don't you dare ever feel bad or anything, you are a good one and you should never feel bad for doing good things. Maybe the haters should consider that you offered all of this to them out of the goodness of your heart. You rock

I want to make a quick point for anyone who may not be aware. I am not picking a fight or anything of the sort, this is fact only. In several of my working environments across many different companies I work with and meet many different programmers from various fields and across many languages. The one thing that is a certain fact in the real world is every one of them uses AI to an extent in their day to day work, all of them. In many companies now agentic programming skills are required or at the least strongly encouraged. If Vintage Story was being developed without any AI tools whatsoever I would be utterly amazed. Any company not using AI now in their workflow is a rare snowflake in the desert. I am not saying good or bad, I don't care any more about peoples personal opinions on AI any more than anyone actually cares about mine, but know that the reality is, you are not avoiding it, if you run Microsoft, Amazon, Google, or any other modern service whatsoever you ARE using AI and are part of the system. That is the way it is now.
