  1. Yeah, I like my zombie games. 7D started off as a survival game but it has turned into a very gamey (I really hate to say it, because it usually triggers a long-winded discussion about what makes an rpg or not but...) rpg. I just can't recommend it anymore.
  2. So being as the color changes to clay necessitated a lot of changes to molds, not to mention there wasn't 1 mod that had the 4 molds I want and only those 4, so I decided to take a stab at it. First I went the modmaker route, patched the blocktypes & language files. Models & recipes it shoved into a game directory. Nothing worked. Likely all domain issues but it was such a mess I finally decided to start over and just make it stand-alone without patching. I got all the domain issues worked out, since I was still having problems with textures, recipes, language, you name it. Now I'm down to the finish line, I thought I was done, but when I try to pour metal into them, the game crashes.I am stumped. Here's crash log, but I can attach the whole mod if anyone cares to look.
  3. Very true. I mean the Matrix was cool and all (the first one anyway) but I'm pretty sure we would not be efficient for power generation. I've always thought then we'd all be free to pursue art and music and the like, but if we can automate that too, then what are we left with? Floating around as lounge chair bound fat-asses? Try blue! It's the new red!
  4. Yeah, eventually the companies will even put themselves out of business, as there are no consumers left to purchase anything. I really don't think anybody is ready for post-scarcity. It is definitely going to turn the world upside down. I hope we can come up with something better than some bad dystopian sci-fi turned into reality.
  5. No, their spawning actually has nothing to do with those bones.
  6. Ugh. No, just no. Had enough of that with the latest 7DTD. It's been done before, and for some games it's not bad. I think there was even a MC mod that did pretty much that, and to be honest it wasn't half bad, but I just don't think it would be good for VS.
  7. Yes, and I was talking about the blatant rip off ones. It was in no way meant to disparage these people or the tremendous amount of work they do. @Koobze makes some really good points though. There never has been any protection against automation replacing people, it may be painful for those involved, but it is part of progress. It even weighs on me lately the fact that every system I automate and optimize puts good people out of work. Eventually I will automate my own job away.
  8. Everyone wants to be an influencer and content creator and live off the advertising revenue. Every guide I (and everyone else) have ever put on Steam, I can find on a bunch of other sites, they don't even bother changing it, like I made a standard disclaimer that says "If you are reading this guide any place other than Steam, it has been reproduced without my permission and is likely not up to date." and they don't even bother to remove that paragraph. I bet the person they attribute as the author isn't even a real person either. Just some stock art and a bullshit blurb, like the marketing characters on food products.
  9. Well, my question is does it actually generate the images or does it just go out and search and grab whatever it needs and edit it?
  10. Too true! You're not kidding. I see a lot of this as an engineer. Co-workers would send me POSH code that GPT pulled out of its ass and I would immediately tell them why it didn't work, and I am not the greatest scripter by any means. I haven't even found it good for weekend projects, trying to update 7DTD and MC mods have been time-wasting disasters. GPT would lie and stall for hours until you call it out a few times and then it will finally fess up and apologize for being full of shit and wasting your time. On the flip side, I have a friend who has been a programmer for over 25 years and he swears by the AI allowing him to develop more faster. I'm sure a lot of it comes down to knowing how to task the AI. He uses it to do a lot of grunt work. So in the end, I think human experience and knowledge is still required...for now anyway.
  11. Absolutely, hate the game, don't hate the player. I love when people start going on about the evil stock holders. I am one of the evil stockholders. My 401k is invested in it. That is my retirement, I really don't give a fuck if you make nuclear weapons or kill kittens if the ROA is good enough. All I am looking for is for my wife and I to be comfortable in our old age. We live pretty modestly. With the average life expectancy these days and staggering medical costs, that still requires a couple million. Yes, that makes me part of the problem, but I didn't make the rules.
  12. Yeah, Carter may have been one of the worst presidents, but I have to deeply appreciate "Jews for wheat", it helped a lot of people get out of that shithole.
  13. I find the bears a lot easier in the latest versions. Considering the new armor is rather nice for early game, I do go looking for trouble. If you get them in pits, you should definitely kill them like fish in a barrel, there is no shame in it. Hunting is not about fair play or sportsmanship when you are trying to survive. Speaking of the lack of audio warning, https://mods.vintagestory.at/noisybears is a great mod.
  14. Yes, mods that make it easier to find. There is actually quite a lot of it around usually. If you aren't cheating though, look for small depressions in the ground. If you see suevite, then it is definitely a meteor. You may need to dig a few blocks of grass. Hopefully 1.21 stable isn't too far away.
  15. Yeah, they are filthy casualsⓇ at heart. I hate what that game has become, but I can't say I haven't gotten my moneys worth out of it. I've had a tremendous amount of enjoyable hours played, although every new version has become less enjoyable. That is one of the problems with indy sandbox games, we play them for many many more hours than the average AAA game. We see all their flaws, especially since most of them are in early access forever and a day. Some of it is from spending a lot of frustrating time being testers for them. We get high hopes, even unreasonable expectations for these games. Take a game like Dying Light (the original, not the shitty sequel) or Days Gone. A playthrough or two, and the occasional dust-off every few years, but I have nothing bad to say about either of them, even though they were a far worse value considering they were about 3x the price and if I've got 100 hours in them it's a lot (can't believe Steam, especially when you forget you left the game running and went to bed)
  16. Considering the amount of RSI aggravation this game can inflict, that's kinda being a douche about it to basically say, go play Minecraft. There are a lot of mods I consider accessibility options, and without them, sure I could probably still play the game, but I certainly wouldn't enjoy it.
  17. Y'know, I saw a double headed spawn outside today and I was bummed that he vanished before I could get to him. At least the low tier bow torn aren't deadly anymore. Reminds me I need to mod out the stupid bone arrow drops, they just get in the way of using my good arrows.
  18. Not exactly. The spears work for melee or thrown. They are quite effective thrown, honestly better than they are in melee. I guess it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to consider them a pilum. There may be mods as well.
  19. Yeah, quite a few, Dana being quite the prolific modder. Tweaks got updated yesterday so I started using it again, it wasn't really working for 1.21. Dana actually did start updating some of the mods early. If it isn't vanilla information (because some things are, some aren't) I'm pretty sure it is Extra Info, I know it was only partially working before update as well, because charcoal pits were giving me nothing until then. Hopefully stable will be soon though, so we'll see. I've got so many other mods it could always be a conflict too.
  20. Regardless, a lot of you seem to forget the simple fact, the world doesn't owe you or I or anyone a living. My family could tell you how great living in Soviet Russia wasn't, except other than my wife, who was only a child, they're all dead. Anyway, thanks for vibin
  21. Yeah, he'll grow on you after a while. I generally like and respect him, even if I want to strangle him sometimes.
  22. There's a lot of necromancy around this place lately. I blame all the Hytale refuges (and no, I don't even know if they are actually a thing)
  23. Yeah, the AI right now is still mostly a glorified search engine. It's hard not to get sucked into the hype these days. I saw some youtubes, this guy asks AI stuff, mostly political, and it is all outright bullshit. I've gone and asked all the AI the same questions, phrased the same way and I get a very different response. Most of them will even respond that they are just a program and they don't have an opinion of their own if you try to bait them with loaded questions.
  24. I don't get it. Is it vibing? I need to go back to Rust so the kids can unironically (they like to say unironically a lot now, even when it doesn't make any sense most of the time) catch me up on the slang again.
  25. I think y'all are reading too much into and dwelling on the "friends" thing a bit too much. Or maybe it's just cause I haven't payed a lot of attention to the other threads either, and I skimmed past the part where he said he was best buds with these people. Relationships with former coworker friends are usually a little more complicated than your "outside" friends. Sure my best friend is a former coworker, and I have some really close friends that were former coworkers, but most of them once you leave the job (or for military, even just get redeployed) life happens and you just fall out of touch with people. You might reconnect if you find yourself working together again, or just in the same locale. Maybe if you find yourself looking for people for a project, you will think of recruiting the more talented and useful of them, but nobody I've ever met who is running a successful business is going to just throw money away because they liked some people when they worked together. I've got some people who I've worked with who I like very much, but I wouldn't want to work with again, or even put my reputation on the line to give them a referral they don't merit. Some very likeable people just lack work ethic and skills, a lot of my extended family fall into this category. I wouldn't give them jobs or lend them money... And yes, I don't know what has happened to consumer expectations either, they are just at an all time low. I love how even people will leave a fairly negative review, even with well thought out and legitimate gripes, but it's like they are still afraid to hurt anyone's feelings so they give a thumbs up on Steam, or like 3 or 4 stars on Amazon. Then there is the over-tipping thing. Combined with a general decline in customer service. Don't get me started on the tips screen at the point of sale systems. You put my order in a bag and checked me out. That is not service. That doesn't merit a tip. I must be doing something wrong in my life, since I work hard for my money too and I don't feel the need to give it away. With the way the inflation has been lately, I feel like I've got a lot less disposable income in general.
