Really? I got an elk, and I think I might have been short gears, but this was RC3.
-
Yeah, that is what I am seeing in my last couple worlds (granted using same seed but different settings). Prior versions I have really had trouble collecting the stacks of resin needed for my modest windmill setup without setting up a few tree-taps.
-
Who needs ladders and picks when you've got a bucket of water Seriously though, it would be a nice option.
-
The treasure trader is spawned by asking another trader, at least in the RC (I don't remember if that is new or not) They charge like 4 gears for the info. He won't talk about the elk until you do the first quest though.
-
Don't feel bad, I only just got around to it myself. I don't want to spoil it for you, but you more or less get a free elk if you do chapter 1 (between gears I think you are guaranteed to get and the item hand in). You still need a saddle, bridle, saddlebags and charm. A flute is a good idea too. You can craft all of these yourself of course. The main thing is it saves you time since you don't have to train the thing or wait for it to grow. Of course I got one and brought it home and then it either vanished or died on me (Feb is f'n cold!)

Smoke from fire pits and forges, pipes and ventalation
Krougal replied to argeshnex456's topic in Suggestions
My friends and I had some fun with it, but it's been shelved like so many others. They had very rapid early success, and I felt like they got very lazy after that and development slowed to a crawl. They still haven't finished it. It also runs like shit. It's only 20 bucks though, so depending how you feel about throwing 20 bucks away, it may or may not be worth it.- 74 replies

Smoke from fire pits and forges, pipes and ventalation
Krougal replied to argeshnex456's topic in Suggestions
I don't think it would be bad, as long as it doesn't tank performance. I don't think it would need to check all the blocks and everything, it could just check against the room. So if there is no room, then it doesn't even need to be checked. It seems like it always goes right to "it must be a complex and detailed realistic system" to be added to the game, sometimes something simple is more than adequate. It would also necessitate work on chimneys and other ventilation systems to be any fun. Valheim did traumatize me, so much so that any new survival game I started playing I was trying to make sure there was ventilation, and my friends are like, "What are you doing? This isn't Valheim."- 74 replies

Every gaming forum seems full of people who know how the devs should run their business. I really doubt Tyron needs any advice from any of us on that front.
-
Why? A separate demo is more work to maintain. The full version there is no question people know what they are getting. Considering their financial success and the amount of sales they are making, I doubt the refund rate is that big.

So having finally gotten around to doing the first boss, I didn't find him difficult, but then I have a silver falx and meteoric iron plate. Just stood there to the side and whacked at him. I don't remember if I equipped my shield or not (it was probably too dark to forego lantern). I gotta say, I am bitterly disappointed with the heavier armor in general; I've never ran into a sawblade before, but I was taking a pounding and if I didn't also play with hp cranked to the max, I'd have been dead several times over. The rooms full of smaller locusts and drifters weren't any fun either. This is the first time I've made meteoric plate and probably will be the last time as well. I was going to keep the steel chain, but I may wind up upgrading that. I remember being underwhelmed last time I tried full steel plate too. Yes, sticking and backing up so that the mob can't connect a swing works, if you aren't surrounded and have the room, but it's also just typical gamey cheese.

Yeah, I am actually thinking of ditching the tree-tap mod. I don't know if generation got improved with 1.21 or I just got lucky, but I find plenty of trees. The tree-tap is a great mod, but it really trivializes resin collection, at least without some kind of massive new resin sink being added that demands more resin.

json patch Patch mod not working

Nope on either account. I tried a few variations as well. Tried adding , after the value too. I am not getting anything in the debug log either, and I followed the directions. -
I am trying to change the recipes involving the large chromium tanned hide to use 2 chromium sulfate and 2 wax instead of 3. I also have some normal recipes in the mod which are working, so the basic mod structure is all there and working. These are the relevant files I created in my mod: \assets\cutthehides\recipes\patches\recipes-cooking-hide-chromium.json [ { "op": "replace", "path": "/server/chromium tanned large hide/chromium sulfate/0/ingredients/0/minQuantity", "value": 2 "file": "game:recipes/cooking/hide-chromium.json" }, { "op": "replace", "path": "/server/chromium tanned large hide/chromium sulfate/0/ingredients/0/maxQuantity", "value": 2 "file": "game:recipes/cooking/hide-chromium.json" } ] \assets\cutthehides\recipes\patches\recipes-cooking-leather.json [ { "op": "replace", "path": "/server/leather-sturdy-plain/wax/0/ingredients/0/minQuantity", "value": 2 "file": "game:recipes/cooking/leather.json" }, { "op": "replace", "path": "/server/leather-sturdy-plain/wax/0/ingredients/0/maxQuantity", "value": 2 "file": "game:recipes/cooking/leather.json" } ] It doesn't error, but it doesn't work.

Older versions it was like planting crops generated rabbits and the little pests destroyed your entire field. I used to just dig a trench around them and farm rabbits and drifters in the morning. Lately I don't bother fencing fields since I don't think that is a thing anymore. As far as pumpkins, give it a 9x9, only the center tile needs to be plowed, dig a hole in one of the adjacent corners and fill it with water (and if you don't have buckets yet, farming anything other than flax is the least of your worries). If you are going to tile them, then I have heard a 4 block gap between them is good. I have no idea about the low fertility thing, if it actually increases the yield or not. In that case I guess I'd omit the water as well.

Long distance water transport - Aqueduct and reservoirs
Krougal replied to Crylum's topic in Suggestions
IRL yes. VS it works for solid objects. -
Oh, my bad on the scroll wheel; that is a mod feature. https://mods.vintagestory.at/improvedhandbookrecipes#tab-description Honestly, this is another one of those major QOL mods that should be vanilla. It still works in RC3 by the way.

One thing I'd add; I am finding it out myself since I've been more successful faster every time I have come to the conclusion that the more raw materials you gather before winter, the less boring a winter you will have. I hit Feb and have got cabin fever, because making steel is boring and I have nothing else to do (mostly because I've burned through all my flax). Yeah, I've been going out mining but I'm ready for the snow to end. I have realized that I waste far too much time when the days are long over-crafting instead of being out exploring and gathering. Unless it is something you need in the immediate future then set it aside when morning comes and finish it the next night. Winter is almost over and I have barely even touched a sealed crock of food. The only crop to be concerned with the first year is flax.

If it spawned there, then I would think it had a chance to spawn there, and therefore the density search should detect it, no? I am actually just trying in my latest start to play with the pro pick instead of x-ray(and absolutely fucking hate it still). The whole process is just very cryptic.

Should report it as a bug.
