  1. I love Vintage Story like I have loved only one other game, The Long Dark. The variety of game play, the atmosphere, the tedium of prospecting or building (with plaster - what was I thinking?), the joy of my first crop or finally finding cassiterite. The slow, steady progress of improving my save, the relief of seeing the lights of my base at night, after a long scary expedition. The humdrum work of tending to my base, doing nothing particularly important, just relaxing with small tasks. I love it all.
  2. Always been interested in the panspermia hypothesis, I'm glad it's been proven.
  3. Somewhat related question; Do males (boars and rams) have to be in the same pens as their prospective brides? I have them just separated by a fence, but there doesn't seem to be any amorous interactions. I play a 30 days month save and know it sometimes tales while, Edit: And two minutes later the ewe is expecting.
  4. Thanks! But shouldn't you guys relax on the weekends?
  5. I just wanted to say 'Thank you' to all modders out there. You all help make an already fantastic game even better, from helping to scratch little itches to transforming large parts of the game to suit our individual preferences. As I browse through the moddb I'm constantly amazed by the creativity and hard work you put into this. And thanks also to Tyron and the rest of the team for making modding such an integral part of Vintage Story. /Steps off soapbox
  6. I hadn't got around to testing the new fishing when I commented above, but now that I've cast a few lines I think I like it. I'm sure there will be a few tweaks here and there, fish getting stuck in corners shouldn't happen, obviously, but overall I think it's a nice addition. I'll build a little wooden pier thing and catch a few fish as the sun slowly sets.
  7. Fish seem to like to swim straight into corners, and stay there, so I can spear them. Pretty convenient.
  8. going to figure out which mod crashed my old game by starting a new one. Starting without any mods, then enabling them one by one until the game crashed, but I got distracted by all the pretty. New piggies, new berry bushes, fennel and rapids. Oh, it was probably Plains and Valleys. Still can't start my old world.

  9. I play VS on Debian. I don't have a machine with windows on it any longer so can't compare, but I'm perfectly happy. As others have commented the exact distro probably doesn't matter all that much, as long as it's a stable one with current drivers for your GPU.
  10. I do as well, but what really makes the game work for me is the variety of the gameplay. You can spend a day doing boring stuff, smithing tool heads and nails and strips for example, and the next day you can pack your lunch and go on a little overnight exploration adventure.
  11. This is almost the perfect game for me, it can be creative (well, I try at least... Somewhat), relaxing, cozy and engaging at the same time. It can be tedious, scary and annoying, but for me that is something that's a draw. The rewards feel meaningful after you put in the work of some project, or suddenly understand something about the mechanics for the first time (e.g prospecting). If one aspect of the game starts feeling boring, there's usually something else you can do. I love the slow progress, this is the Slow Game equivalent of Slow Food.

    Keeping sheep

Thanks! MK3 looks pretty nice, I'm not very good at building but I may aim for something similar. I already have a small chicken coop which, while not perfect works fairly well. My pigs are out in the open in pens. All are early generations, though the chickens are getting there.
  13. So, I've got myself a cute little big horn lamb. Presently she's in a pen, but I'm curious how you keep your sheep? If you've built something more advance than a pen, do you have a pic? I'm looking for inspiration.

    GOTY 2025

This is exactly how it's been for me as well. I've been playing on and off since I discovered VS sometime in late 2024, I'm not very 'good' at it but, for me, it's an absolutely fantastic game that suits me perfectly. I'm now in my first year of a 30 day month save, early September and getting a little nervous about the food. And my sows and boar show no interest at all in each other.
  15. Oh, breaking the actual gear. Didn't think to try that. Thanks.
