  1. Have you lit a stack of torches in a firepit? coz they don't suffer the same problem as lime and flint. This represents a disconnect in game mechanics.
  2. There's two things that affect freezing. One is the temp, in world which is primarily determined by your lattitude in the world and the season. The other factor is how resistant to cold you choose. You're spawn climate and temperature resistance can be selected at time of generating a new world.
  3. The RA in my current world is about 4k almost directly south. the magenta x is 11,000 almost directly west, making it roughly 13,000 from the RA.
  4. You don't like your continents leaking their liquid contents?
  5. Given the amount of lumber needed for large builds, I grieve for those builders of massive projects that do so in survival and want to use copious amounts of those rare woods.
  6. I have never experienced these issues with the boat. For #3 is your boat near dry ground (like under 3 or 4 blocks)? For #4, you need to be on the right side of the rudder, the left side is for passengers. I agree with number 6 and 7 though. Hopefully those get fixed in 1.21.
  7. BAH! Convenience is for wimps! VS weeds out the wimps.
  8. The first story location (Resonane Archives; RA for short) is about 4-5 thousand blocks from spawn. Getting there depends on the terrain. My first world with the RA took about 45 minutes IRL coz of difficult terrain to navigate (dense forests, boggy lakes and steep hills). My second world? 10 minutes by boat. The second story location is about 10,000 blocks from spawn. Travel time depends upon terrain and mode of travel. Given plains and an elk, I'd expect it to take less than an hour IRL time.
  9. Trees do not respawn (unless you plant seeds), but mushrooms do respawn automatically..
  10. I believe the upholstered chair is crafted. Look in the handbook to verify.
  11. If you're in a default climate settings you will get snow. How much depends upon the frequency of rain in your area. I get temps similar to you, but very little snow in the winter coz the rainfall is uncommon. I usually don't have snow covered ground until January despite freezing temps starting in late October.
  12. No. All items have the same durability regardless of which class crafts it.
  13. making fire clay is no problem at all. My first 1.20 world I just ran around gathering loose flint. By the time I got to copper I had 3 or 4 stacks of flint waiting to be converted to fire clay. Each stack of flint will make 8 stacks of fire clay, which is WAY more than enough for 2 steel furnaces. The big problem with flint is cooking it, making quicklime has the same issue. Fortunately, better firepits mod fixes that problem.
  14. Better than me. Emerged from a night of mining near mid-day and ran into a welcoming committee of at least 2 DOZEN deep drifters. I had gambeson armor on and was one hit away from dying in the time it took to type "/gm 2". Fortunately, THAT issue has fixed since 1.20.2.
  15. Hoooo boy. Just wait until you get to the Resonance Archives.
  16. Might I suggest Settlers of Cataan? >ducking for cover!<
  17. Someone made a pretty good mod that increases seed drop rates to an acceptable level for me. I plant an obscene amount of pine trees to turn into charcoal since I run 2 or 4 steel factories simultaneously. When each one takes a few stacks of charcoal for 16 ingots... weeeellll... One needs a LOT of charcoal. Plus getting an average of one.AlmostNothing larch seed per tree is very frustrating!
  18. Agreed. I love how the devs don't force a single thing on us players. It sounds like the week long carbonization would be laborious for you. It takes 5 firings to complete the process and fortunately, it doesn't resent once a firing is completed so you can load up the fuel, light it, leave it and fire the furnace up again once you return from your escapades.
  19. Once upon a not too distant past the home page described Vintage Story as an "uncompromising survival game inspired by Lovecraftian themes" (it has since been changed to eldritch). Having read Lovecraft I will say that the devs are doing an amazingly out of the world (pardon the pun) job of bringing to life a story that is very, EXTREMELY Lovecraftian. That said, Lovecraft is NOT steampunk. Lovecraft goes so far as to portray human's use turn of the century technology to undo the ill effects of extra-dimensional beings impact on the earth. Three Lovecraft stories the devs seem to have drawn inspiration from: Color out of Space The Case of Charles Dexter Ward The Shunned House All of them (plus more) are available for free here: Lovecraft's Fiction
  20. SWEET! Makes me want to use wattle and daub now.
  21. Did you chisel in bits of cobblestone? I suspect claystone cobble?
  22. Unfortunately, a bigger problem (partially solved by this) is that redwoods drop a ridiculously small number of seeds.
  23. I jive with the baroque style as that is exactly what my bank account looks like! >ducks for cover<
  24. Currently steel is end-game. Given the dev's roadmap to have steam power and powered minecarts / railtrack, I think steel will become a necessity and find its way to no worse than late-game but probably even mid-game technology.
