Domesticated chickens should drop feathers along with eggs.

Speaking about feathers, I'd like to see feathers used in making higher tier beds. -
chiselling 50% Volume Requirement for Chiseled Blocks is Too Harsh
Maelstrom replied to Yukio77's topic in Discussion
At this point it's a case of the game has to give up some reality to either keep things fun, or in this case, keep the coding load as small as possible.- 14 replies

If you want. All that needed is a full block (of your choice) to prevent the vine from trying to spawn a punkin in a block that another vine could try (and fail) to spawn a punkin. Thereby potentionally increasing the punkin yield.
-
Good luck with that eradication plan. Bunnies spawn on grass blocks so plentifully that some players dig a two block trench around their farm to trap and slaughter said bunnies as a source of protein instead of spending time catching and breeding local herbivorous wildlife.

6 blocks. Only need to get ride of the blocks directly touching the block to be leavened.

On the other hand, there's less time to prepare for winter. I have heard that longer months actually makes the game easier. While there will only be 2 or 3 harvests before winter, there are many more days to gather wild seeds for a much larger farm so the harvests are much greater than shorter months provide. I concur with @Grummsh though. Play on default settings for a few worlds to find the settings that fit your fancy. Same goes for mods.

When farming pumpkins, do you remove the withered vines?
Maelstrom replied to Broccoli Clock's topic in Questions
The world is semi earthlike. On default setting you spawn in a northern temperate zone. Running about 15,000 blocks south will get you around the equator. Another 25,000 will get you to the south pole. Continue running south and you'll find another equator and pole on your journey to the world border. A couple, three, years ago a streamer set out on a journey to the southern world border. He calculated it would take about 24 irl hours to get there. It took him over 50 given the obstacles the polar regions presented at the time (which have since been changed). At that time poles had MASSIVE mountains that pretty much streched across the entire world, reached world height and offered no passes. Literally over 100 block sheer cliff faces. He was planning on jumping off the edge to respawn at home, so dying traversing such regions was out of the question. -

I don't do the greenhouse thing. For all I know leaded panes work just dandy in a greenhouse. Try it and see.- 14 replies

To increase fat and meat from animals, be sure the animal has a "good" classification for its weight. Best source of fat I have found is hogs. Mostly because breeding them yields a LOT of piggus. Breeding just one sow can yield like 2 dozen swine by the second generation. As mentioned fat is much more valued for other things, like components for mechanically powered devices. The only thing I use pelts for is the fur clothing for winter. Once that's done, I begin saving fat for axles, windmills and the like.

Lots of people have a southern home. In fact, quite a few Utoobers do that in their let's play. Some will just begin a massive run south when the spawn. -
What is the roadmap plan for health/infection/satiation?
Maelstrom replied to Broccoli Clock's topic in Questions
At the risk of dragging this thread off topic... Yeah. I've got a nice bit o' sarcasm that seasons my bluntness. Well, maybe not seasoning, it's more like sarcasm is my linqua franca. Added to a filter the size of a golf ball about 12 inches outside of my mouth aaaaaaand... I get in trouble regularly for what I say. -

I don't see the devs making a bunch of poison mushrooms and creating brewing if either weren't intended for herbalism. The only thing brewing offers at this point is the highest tier bandage that expires and a novelty of getting drunk. I just don't see either of those being the end point for brewing. At this point I would feel betrayed if the herbalism mentioned would not include either one of those. I suspect that all the plethora of flowers would also factor into herbalism, but only time will tell. I really, Really, REALLY, want to see herbalism in 1.22. Pretty Please @Tyron? -

You are way, WAY overthinking this. All I'm saying to do is plant a punkin seed then place a full block (i.e. cobblestone) on the blocks diagonal to the planted seed. Yes, a water source under one of those. That is it. Nothing more. As for the block out other cardinal directions? I suppose you could, but that would likely reduce your punkin yield quite dramatically. @Broccoli Clock Pumpkins grow differently than other crops. To get maximum yield, they will grow a vine in the cardinal directions from the seed you plant. Those vines can grow up to 4 blocks. Maximum yield requires each plant have a 9x9 square to grow in. -
Great build! One problem I see with the farm though. Those logs provide a valid path for rabbits to raid your crops. Might want to either add a slab to those logs, or change them to fences. /edit - I can't believe @Thorfinn or @xXx_Ape_xXx did not mention that. Shame on you two!

I figured that was probably the case. Thank you for clarifying what you intended to say. I didn't want my comment to sound like I thought you were wrong - trying to clarify things when my 64k brain is operating on only 32k. It's about 6 am for me currently, so my brain may not be fully functioning yet, making both reading comprehension and applying the english language in writing less than optimal. I don't see a magic element to VS ever coming into the game. Until about 12 or 18 months ago the homepage indicated the game had Lovecraftian themes. Because of this game I finally got a collection of Lovecraft's works and will say that at no point does he ever invoke magic. His stories always have a technology base and the weird stuff that happens is when things from other dimensions intersect with our world. The devs have done an absolutely masterful job in portraying Lovecraft's world in their own story. I have no fear of anything like potions, enchanting, spells or anything else like magic. -
Combat is better than in the past. Until about 1.17 (I think?) there was no cooldown for a melee attack. Hold down mouse button and beat the drifter to submission. I believe using an axe in combat does not have a cool down (for a while there was the Berzerk Viking Axe Club that used only axes for combat because axes had better DPS than the newly introduced falx with cooldown). So is combat better? Yes. Is combat in its final form? I do not think so. I'm not great at 1st person combat in games, and think what we have now is good enough for me, but I also realize there are those Halo masters out there that want a bigger challenge out of combat. I just don't want it to get to a point where I'm like some who have a difficult time with the combat as it is currently. At that point I might be faced with finding a different game to play, or turning off combat, which I would hate to do.

What is the roadmap plan for health/infection/satiation?
Maelstrom replied to Broccoli Clock's topic in Questions
It sounds to me like you're saying unwanted consequences of actions are the game telling you that you are playing the game wrong. I don't see it that way at all. The game presents different ways to deal with a problem. Too cold in winter? you can light a fire and warm up, even if you're buck nekkid. To say that all the unwanted things in the game are "punishment" for playing the game wrong is... entitled. Let's not even mention that everything yo umentioned has a world gen option to turn it off (cave-ins) or alter the point at which the desired action has a negative consequence (freezing in winter). -
What is the roadmap plan for health/infection/satiation?
Maelstrom replied to Broccoli Clock's topic in Questions
From the Roadmap page: Once upon a time this was listed as Alchemy. I expect the status effects come from a more robust herbalism system than the poultices we currently have. I further expect that all those dozens of muchrooms (and hopefully flowers) will be used in concocting different things (salves, tinctures, poultices, etc) giving different status effects. I hope that the brewing we currently have will be a requirement for some of those "alchemical" products. Hopefully we might see status effects that would make parkour easier, regenerative health, or a bonus to stealth. -

Given Tyron's recent poll and some comments, looks like 1.21 is going to polish existing things up. So maybe this turns into a predict 1.22 update features thread?

I suspect it comes down to coding. From my limited experience in writing computer code, a simple idea can turn into a nightmare of code. I agree that greenhouses generally are just a pane of glass in a sturdy frame, but the game may impose technical limitations that may prevent a more realistic representation of a greenhouse.- 14 replies
