  1. Up until very recently, they've been revealing the VS story through bits and pieces of written lore and artwork found in dungeons. Of course now I see with the addition of the first boss that the story is also being revealed through quests. I'm just grateful that the story line is open enough that it doesn't need to affect gameplay at all. I hope this will be true for the new mode as well.
  2. HA! That angle hadn't occurred to me at all. Interesting.
  3. You've gotten some great tips. 1. When gathering cattails for your baskets, be sure to cut them with a knife; breaking them with your hands will destroy the root that allows them to regrow. 2. When gathering copper bits off of the ground, be aware that they indicate the presence of a shallow deposit underground so be sure to mark the spot so that you can come back later with a pickaxe.
  4. That's a shame; I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the subject.
  5. I enjoy finding decorator items (paintings, unusual blocks, wallpaper, doors), clothing, pretty containers, jewelry and the odd metal tool. I once found a silver knife which I thought was pretty cool. Now I play with Better Ruins and am satisfied with the loot. They even have blueprints that allow creation of loot items or vanilla items at a reduced cost. I'm all about the loot!
  6. I watch quite a few Let's Plays and can assure you that it is very common for new players to be standing right on top of clay without realizing it. Just last week I was watching a group that was hurting from a lack of clay, went out on a (long) journey to find it, only to return home and see that their base was built at the edge of a field of clay. Having said that, I don't recall having found clay in a forest biome before... although that could partly be because I tend to avoid them. (eta: I don't linger in forest biomes because of the potential for bears and wolves)
  7. A long time ago, iirc, there was an issue with music if you updated via a patch rather than a full installation - I could be misremembering the cause of the problem. In any case, it might be worth poking around VS Issues, both open and closed, to see if any of the past reports contain a solution to your situation?
  8. Can confirm: I've gotten temporal gears from normal panning (sand and/or gravel, don't recall atm). I like the proposed idea, speaking as someone that is completely inept at fighting.
  9. Wow! I only recently loaded 1.20 and haven't encountered this yet. Thank you so much for linking it!
  10. Yes, that is my take as well. I'm certain that the quote you saw was not a full one, as it wouldn't be appropriate to include the offensive part. I've been here since v1.5 and participated in discord for several years, before there were so many players. Tyron really strikes me as a thoughtful person and he seems to have a lot of tolerance and patience (imo, based on what I've seen).
  11. The key to it being unacceptable is what Echo Weaver described as, "The user in question described Tyron and people with positive opinions of him with rude profanity." Emphasis mine. A fairly stated opinion does not include slurs against other people; it especially does not break the forum rules by including profanity. Rudeness and profanity can get a person banned, depending on the circumstances or how far the commenter takes it. I didn't happen to see the comment, but I trust that @Echo Weaver has given an accurate representation. For the mods to act so swiftly, and for Tyron to explicitly state that it was the language, shows that the commenter exceeded the bounds of propriety.
  12. Yes, but in SP. It happens when you've been flying in creative mode and did not use F3 to turn off flying, even if you've switched back into survival mode. It has been reported and is a known issue. (eta: and for me, SP server, restarting the game worked) I do not know what it could be as you've described though.
  13. For inspiration, you may enjoy looking at some of the tours Ashantin has done in her "Best Builds" series: link to playlist. Or one of Kurazarrh's world tours where he shows off his completed builds (this one of his 'Hobbit house' - the ship in a bottle at the 18:40 mark is something else!). One nice thing about his tour is that you'll see a number pop up on the screen as he is showing off different things; the number represents the video in which the work occurred, so you can go back and see how he did it.
  14. @THE BRICKSTER In case you might be interested... This gorgeous build is an example of using glass slabs to fulfill the greenhouse roof requirement while allowing a more decorative finish on top. But there is also a link in one of the comments to the OP's imgr acct which has several pictures, one being the positioning of the slab as seen from inside of the greenhouse (and another pic proving that this exquisite design fulfills the room requirements despite the chiseling).
  15. Oh! Haha.. too gullible by far.
  16. This topic made me curious because I don't remember anything and hadn't heard of the Mandela effect. I found interviews/tributes from several US politicians following his death in 2013, but this one with Bill Clinton mentions Mandela's time in prison in the context of other events. tl;dr Mandela did not die in prison.
  17. Wow, @Foe Hammer, that populated build idea is amazing! You've got me hyped as well! I normally stop playing due to my single player world being so empty; this would make a huge difference.
  18. I think it is in the addition to his original post, where he addresses the questions and issues that have been brought up.
  19. Same here. My concern is that some on the team may be more prone to burnout under these conditions - I know I would. I hope the team is wearing their non-stick armor so that the comments slide off! (eta for clarification: our community should be able to discuss opposing views and their rationale without devolving into disparaging comments or trying to force our own view above all others)
  20. [delete] Nevermind.. I'm getting too annoyed by the antagonistic comments. The whole tone here has become like the Steam forums.
  21. Or perhaps it is in the same context as ConcernedApe continuing to make additions to Stardew Valley, at least that is how I took his comment.
  22. (emphasis mine) This is what baffles me, the "either or" thinking that causes some people to believe it must be one or the other. Why do you think they do not have the money to do both? Why would development on VS come to a grinding halt with the hiring of a few new people that will be working on a different project?
  23. I understand the position you and Mathathian are taking, and I'm sure there are others that agree with you. To me, the new team has already been functioning as a cohesive unit and are probably excited about Tyron's vision of Adventure mode. I believe that wondrous things come into existence when creative people are working on a passion project, and I see this new team (functioning in that capacity) as a rare opportunity. If not for this unique situation, I might agree with your position [to have the new team work on VS]. eta: and I do not see the team as being divided, rather I see the new team as a separate addition that does not detract from the current team, so we do disagree in that regard.
  24. I believe Status HUD Continued shows wind speed.
  25. Let's try starting over with a clean slate. There is an existing team working on Vintage Story. There is a proposal that 3-4 of the developers from Hytale would be hired on to work on a separate mode that runs on the same engine as Vintage Story. It's going to be packaged with VS initially and may be a standalone in the future. While these two separate teams are working on their separate things, some aspects of functionality will be common to both (like developing the enemy AI, or NPC interactions or whatever). In that case, the two teams can work in collaboration to solve problems that will benefit both projects. As for VS becoming like Hytale, Tyron stated "For existing players - rest assured, the aesthetics and game mechanics of Vintage Story will remain true to its original vision." I sincerely hope this is helpful in relieving some of your concerns. The existing team will continue working as they have been doing, and VS is going to retain the aesthetics and game mechanics that we all love so much.
