If nothing else, this game adequately portrays the early hunter-gatherer phase prehistoric humans had to live through. They were too busy gathering food all day to ever have time for technological innovation. Do yourself a favor and fight through it. It is so much more satisfying once you get far enough for your larder to start filling up. Once you push through that phase and reach food at least partial food security, the game takes on a whole new level and you will regret blowing through the early phases if you do.

Why would you pause it for winter? Winter's the best time to work on your house. And yes, A cellar is definitely what you need to keep your food stashed. Btw, nice to see another Slovenian here!

As you may or may not be aware, I am playing VS on a very old PC. Also, Linux doesn't like Nvidia cards. And in spite of that, I am getting quite smooth 60fps on some very high settings. I don't know exactly what the problem is, but performance in VS doesn't improve to the same degree as computing power of modern graphics goes up. Also, be aware, that as you crank up the view distance, like going to 1024 from 512, the range of your vision may have only doubled, but the amount of voxels the game needs to render is increased by (I think) a factor of 8! And that is the main reason that even most powerful modern graphics systems proceed to soil themselves when trying to render that much information. VS, at present, doesn't have any distant LOD systems in place for voxel number optimization like certain minecraft mods do. What is there, helps, but unfortunately modern graphics cards are made to render polygons, not voxels. -
The thing about hytale is, that while it's a great idea, we can't really say that it's a "has been", the best way to describe it would be a "never was".

Up to, yes, but in most cases it will be pretty shallow.

You can tailor such settings to your liking if you wish, however if you try and do a real life comparisson - consider how active your character is. I bet you're just holding down the sprint bar button most of the time. That could be compared to a soldier IRL during combat operations. What I'm trying to say is the game is going easy on you. Thank the developers for this small mercy, that they equated the food requirements to a rough average between sedentary and hyperactive levels of activity, otherwise those 10 steaks you wolfed down, they would have barely made a dent for breakfast.

Hey all! I've been off since version 1.17. I see there we two major patches, one of which has terrain overhaul and new/replaced animals. I have a lot of time invested on my old world (100+ hours as a matter of fact) and I don't want to just leave it. And while I am confident that the new terrain features will apply to any undiscovered terrain when I go exploring, What I am curious about is - What does it default to? Checking out the official 2 patch videos that the developer released, I can see that new terrain features oceans, mountains and more expressive northern terrain. But how is this generation set when loading an old map? Are those additional features turned off? Are they default? are they reduced?

That is not the case at all. Ores spawn when the world is generated. And finding copper deposits is childishly easy. The nuggets you find on the surface indicate a deposit below, usually just one or two blocks down fater you've cleared the dirt, sometimes not even that.

I found this on YouTube. Maybe it will help? Vercidium - voxel engine optimization

Hey there! Its been a while since I was here. Just saw your post. Vintage story is natively supported on Linux. Hell, its even present in my Distro's app repository and its a one-click download. As long as you install all the necessary prerequisites for Vintage story on Linux, you're good to go. Steam, as the app in and of itself, is also natively supported on most Linux Distros. As for the games you run on Linux - its a bit more complicated. If you really need to know, then you can PM me, and I'll explain it to you. The problem you may or may not encounter is whether your pc would be TOO new. For linux, new stuff doesn't work out of the box in many cases as there is no close collaboration between open source Linux devs and home pc hardware manufacturers to secure compatibility for the newest hardware in advance. Linux needs some time to catch up for complete support of the new hardware, and that costs varying amounts of time, depending on the distro of your choice. -
Oh I handled this ages ago. The Quern is really not a big drain on wind power, therefore I keep it connected at all times, and the only thing I have put on clutch now are helve hammers and crushers.

Uhm, that wiki statement regarding wolf spawning is not entirely accurate. I got constant wolf problems on a plateau in a densely bushed area that is nowhere near a forest. Also it is not that they can respawn, rather than that they WILL respawn... which leads to my favorite bi-yearly activity - LUPICIDE!!!

As of the few most recent patches, my method of deploying glthreading doesn't seem to work. I am currently investigating alternatives, suitable for the linux terminal, in the meantime, I would request all those that are knowledgeable to share the method they use for their distro if they are so willing. I seem to have also noticed improved performance without it. There is the possibility that it may be obsolete to use it at all. -
Did you take Kurrazarh's house design and go from there?
-
Patience, my friend. There will be plenty of time for getting such minutia added to the game. Right there are core features, either missing entirely from the game, or requiring the update on which the developers are focusing right now.
-
It will never stop being hungry, especially with mods. Its a voxel game by its very nature in a world where 100% (Yes, ALL of it, not even 99%, but every single piece) of graphic hardware is optimized to render polygons. Its a great piece of technology that always remained on the sidelines.
-
There is nothing unusual about it. Any mod in any game whatsoever will increase consumption of system resources. Can you tab out into the terminal when it stops responding and make a screenshot?
-
Curious. Servers have a way of being more demanding on clients, yet an ARM system can handle a server, but not a client.
-
More mods = more RAM. It has to put all the custom features you added on standby into memory. That's just how it is. Time to scale back on the tweaking! Also, defer to my guide if you want to gain quite a bit of performance on Linux:

Its exactly the kind of thing I've come to expect from an inferior infantile game, such as minecraft. I mean, really? Worms for irrigation and hydration? I've survived 3 head injuries requiring stitches, 2 of which was a concussion and one of those a skull fracture, and even with all that I think that whoever did that isn't right in the head. It is one of the most immersion breaking nonsense I've ever heard of. Now, to answer your question: Calling it top soil would be wrong, since that is the very part that grows the crops in the first place. Best case scenario - you get grass stalks to replant them, but since all you need is sunlight to have grass grow naturally, that would kind of be futile. Considering your rank, I would be right to assume that you're intimately familiar with the game's farming system, including hydration, fertility and soil quality mechanic. I am going to assume that your gripe lies with the fact that you believe that growing crops can be a considerable time investment. That is probably because you lack perspective. Growing crops in Multiplayer is really just a set-and-forget system. If a server runs constantly, you'll find them growing when you're not playing the game at all. You don't even have to bother with higher fertility soils. Your request is one that really makes no sense whatsoever. Farming is currently one of the most fleshed out mechanics in the game and you're trying to turn it into a ripe mess.

I've been with these guys for a while now, and they're pretty great. The server is well built, They have a good town with advanced services, accessible to all, and they're very helpful. The server is set up pretty close to vanilla with only qualify of life mods. Their TL network is a bit of a pain to navigate, but that's rather due to the world's seeding rather to anything they might or might not have done. I might even dare to say that it preferable to the rather lonely single player experience where you have to do everything from the ground up. Yeah, I know, his royal highness BigBadBeef has given his official endorsement. You will probably be flocking in droves on that server now, I hope they have the capacity to handle that ingoing traffic. Hehehe lol...

To those that are a bit more versed in Linux, can also try the following code, supplied by the user JasKinasis from the Linux.org forums: It will let you merge steps 1 & 2 from the terminal method. However this is a more advanced way of doing it, not fit for a beginner. As any responsible Linux advocate, I always state that you should not blindly copy code into your terminal unless you know exactly what its doing. My way contains very short commands that are easy to understand and simple to get a grasp on. -

I made a deal with Tyron, if he likes it, he will link to it in the wiki. -

Agreed. But not everyone has that option. I've also disclaimed that there might be issues. This is a beginner guide, and yours is advanced tip. -
It would appear that the clockmaker is going to evolve from one of the "MEH" classes, to one of the most awesome ones in the game!
