I am a bit confused by the hunger bar. Whenever I wake up, and sometimes after I eat something, the scale of the green hunger bar seems to change wildly (ticks get closer together or farther apart), and in the character screen the max satiety is changing. Often I will end up with something like 2000 / 1500 satiety. This sometimes leads to my hunger bar appearing to get emptier when I eat food.

What is the cause of this? How can I have satiety greater than the maximum? Is the max satiety somehow affected by conditions like temperature and when you last slept, or the nutrition in the food you last ate? Or is it a bug where the game is momentarily forgetting I have the huge stomach trait?

I've noticed this too, where the satiety bar suddenly jumps up and back down when eating. Not found any pattern to when it happens or linked to any specific food.

It's linked to the meals. And nothing else.

yeah it only happens when eating meals. For instance I can eat a 1% serving of porridge with a 3/4 hunger bar and suddenly my hunger bar is completely full for 10 seconds, then goes back to 3/4.

It has also happened that I somehow ended up with satiety above the maximum and it never drained at all for days. Way past the satiety bonus I think.

Reviving this thread as it definitely is not being caused by the satiety bonus from meals or full satiety cells. Only started happening to me after installing a couple hunger system mods (obviously, I assume this is where the error is coming from). The mods are: ExpandedStomach-1.2.4, SleepNeed_2.0.3, HungerPatcher (disabled), HungryWhileInjured, Hydrate or Diedrate.

@ShnitzelKiller did you ever find a solution? I can't figure out the mod/configs that have caused this and nothing changes through my testing.

You can see the visual error from this bug in the satiety bar in the images below, it jumps between the correct indicator to a seemingly overlapping bar/cells. This happens multiple times a second. You can also see the max satiety jumps from 1500 to 2000 as well, this happens in tandem with the bar glitching out.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

ExpandedStomach and Hungry While Injured mods dev here.

Please update ES to latest version (1.2.6)? You're missing out on some bug fixes!

I don't change the max satiety values. I just read them, so my mods aren't causing this issue. Very strange because I haven't encountered this issue at all before. I would suspect either HoD or SleepNeed, unfortunately.

One mod I would check for is XSkills; if you are using that mod and took the Huge Stomach perk, the UI can sometimes flip out, although not quite in this fashion. Otherwise:

I would agree here--the issue probably lies with a mod(or combination of mods) that affect status bars, either by adding overlays to pre-existing status bars or by adding new status bars. When using multiple mods that affect status bars, you'll probably need to do a little extra legwork configuring them upfront so everything plays together nicely.

Probably the best way to narrow down the issues is disable suspect mods one by one and test them on throwaway worlds to see if you can narrow down which one, or which combination, is causing the issue. Once you've figured out the problem mod(s), then you can check the configuration file to see if it's perhaps something you can fix yourself, but otherwise you can head to the appropriate mod page from there to report the issue(or Discord or wherever is appropriate for reporting issues for that mod).

Hungry While Injured mods

Just for clarification: Hungry While Injured is what Hunger Patcher used to be. Hunger Patcher is no longer needed in the latest version of the game and ES mod, since the vanilla hunger bug has been fixed. However, Hungry While Injured is still recommended in order to achieve the best experience with Expanded Stomach, as it will increase hunger when you are healing, instead of suppressing it as tends to happen in vanilla. When updating ES to the latest version and installing Hungry While Injured(it's recommended but not required), I'd recommend removing Hunger Patcher from your mod folder just to make absolutely sure there's no possible interference(I've had this happen a couple of times with other mods).

Hungry While Injured should fully replace Hunger Patcher and be compatible with all versions of Vintage Story.

I appreciate both of you jumping on to help out with this!

It turned out to be the Huge Stomach perk from XSkills. I never would have thought to look there, thanks for the tip @LadyWYT

I noticed this too in my game. Looks like XSkills Huge Stomach perk. You wouldn't happen to know a fix then would you?

Welcome to the forums! As far as I'm aware, there's not a fix for it.

I'm having this issue too. My only solution would be to drink some alcohol and unlearn Huge Stomach ability and use it on something else.
