I answered in the other thread, but I'll post the same answer here in case others who read this need it:

To change your spawn point in Vintage Story, you will need to acquire a temporal gear. These are rare items that can drop from drifters(the more powerful the drifter, the more chance one has of dropping) or from panning, be found in ruins, or be purchased from certain traders(I believe it's the treasure hunters that can sell them). By default, a spawn point that is set via temporal gear will only last through 20 respawns, so if you've died several times since last setting your spawn you'll want to refresh it with a new gear. Or you can change that particular value in the world configuration options.

The other option is finding a mod that changes the respawn mechanic to tie your spawn point to whichever bed you last slept in(or whichever changes the mod makes), rather than using a temporal gear.

There already is a respawn system in the game.
You need to use a Temporal Gear, which can be obtained by killing and harvesting drifters (undead enemies), finding them in ruins, or by trading for one with a Treasure Hunter trader.
Your best bet is probably the trader, considering the easier drifters are less likely to drop Temporal Gears than the harder ones, and finding them in ruins is quite rare.

If you really need one, you could pillar up in a temporal storm, whack some drifters with spears, then hope to get a Temporal Gear from that, thought it has the potential to be dangerous.

When used to set spawn, it will last for 20 respawns by default, though that can be changed in world creation settings.

So many times now i get items die and cant find them. Needs a Respawn point BAD in this game!

Agreed too many people defending the temporal gear system. There needs to be at least one other mechanic for setting spawn points. or at least moving your initial spawn point.

These are sandbox games. People literally spend the first few days running as far as possible from the start to find a home. Especially if the game is being showcased/advertised as a more complex Minecraft.

Tyron said in an interview that setting spawn was intended to be a challenge, unlike that other game.

For those who have difficulty killing a couple dozen surface drifters, I can think of 3 really easy methods.

  1.  Go into creative and give yourself a temporal gear. /gm 2 to enter creative, /gm 1 to get back to survival.
  2. Use the command to set spawn. /setspawnhere
  3. Download one of the bed sets spawn mods. Can't recommend any in particular, but they are thick as ticks on a dog.

Now, granted, these don't work (probably) on a server, but that's likely because the server admin decided he liked the current method.

[EDIT]

On average, panning a couple stacks of bony soil gives you at least one gear. On average, 27 surface drifters gives you at least one gear. The other methods are much less reliable.

[EDIT2]

Oh, forgot one. /giveitem "gear-temporal" should work. Never tried it, so you might have to leave off the double quotes or something.

  • Vintage Story is an uncompromising wilderness survival sandbox game inspired by eldritch horror themes. Find yourself in a ruined world reclaimed by nature and permeated by unnerving temporal disturbances. Relive the advent of human civilization, or take your own path.

With all due respect...it's not being advertised as a more complex Minecraft. There are a few superficial similarities, but the two aren't even close in terms of gameplay and what's expected of the player.

Just because it's a sandbox doesn't mean that it necessarily needs to be easy, or that you get to settle down exactly where you want at the start of the game. Though I'd also agree with the points @Thorfinn already made--there are already several options to easily reset your spawn in the current state of Vintage Story.

One of my favorite parts of that interview. I'd not really stopped to consider how much the ease of resetting one's spawn point affects other challenges that a game might offer, but in retrospect, it does trivialize a lot.
