In that other block game, I usually created a 1x2 pit and put a trapdoor on it. Then I could open the trapdoor and throw stuff into it that I didn't want to turn back up in my inventory. When I found some lava, I put lava at the bottom or filled a cauldron up with the stuff so that anything I threw on it would incinerate.

Despawn mechanics are different in VS, and I'm reluctant to take up game resources with a bunch of stuff tossed into the bottom of a pit. Lava is rare. I assume it's associated with geologic activity, but I haven't actually found any in-game.

What do folks do to dispose of trash?

Trash? What trash? Almost everything has a use.

The only thing I can think of is to toss it on top of a burning pit kiln, it should catch fire and burn up.

Everything has a use for something, but I don't have a need for everything.

Is there a use for miscellaneous stones other than turning them into cobblestone and building with them? I've done all the stone building I need for a good while.

Paths are a very solid option.

Fair enough. I do want to add some paths, but I intend to use the same stone for all the paths, so that leaves out all but one type of stone.

ETA: I actually hate trashing the landscape, so I do put dirt, sand, and gravel back to make something that looks natural after I dig it up.

Why? Don't all stones result in the same exact path block?

Stuff I don't want gets Ctrl-Q while I'm backing up. It's gone in 10 minutes, and, since I usually trash it when I pick it up, I'm probably never going past it again, let alone before it goes bye-bye.

Lava is generally fairly deep. Basalt, usually, maybe always?

Oh, they do? I haven't made paths in this go-round of the game, so my memory is fuzzy. Kind of unfortunate they're not colored with the stone used to make them. Ah, well.

Oh, hey, when you find obsidian on the surface, there's obsidian underneath, and, often, lava at some depth. But you can't move the stuff. Yet, anyway. It's not much more than an obstacle at the moment.

My buddy and me are using a lava pit. Its kinda cheaty but we added one lava block in creative with a trapdoor on top. We didn't want do just dump it in some water and have it flowing there. Besides, its fairly rare to dump something away because almost anything has some use.

I just chuck it into a corner and wait for it to despawn. Somewhere I won't step for the next 10 minutes. Usually that ends up being on top of a barrel or inside a berry bush next to the front door.

Just make a hole in the ground, fill it with one block of ebony wood. Since ebony burns the longest out of all logs in the game (for 110s). Throw your trash in the hole with the ebony log on fire and they will delete the items in 20seconds or less.
