ParallaxError Posted December 20, 2024 Report Posted December 20, 2024 As simple as it sounds, instead of doors having to be on either edge of a block, let them be placed mid way through lining up where fences do. 10
JAGIELSKI Posted December 23, 2024 Report Posted December 23, 2024 Wouldn't that make gates obsolete? Though, I agree we should be able to place the doors anywhere in the block , not just edges, so that if someone has nice chiseled walls the door would still fit. And ditto for gates, really. I often wanted to make custom chiseled fences, but then gates wouldn't really fit so I've abandoned that idea.
ParallaxError Posted December 23, 2024 Author Report Posted December 23, 2024 No, I don't think it would as gates and doors are pretty much the same thing but rescaled and retextured anyway. They serve the same purpose, keeping things in or out of an area while allowing you to go in and out. Adding that extra bit of freedom in placement just allows more uses for building and as you said making them fit with chiseled blocks. And also thinking about it, extend that to gates too because why leave them out
LadyWYT Posted January 2, 2025 Report Posted January 2, 2025 Hmmm, I like the idea, but how would one go about choosing which position the door goes in? I suppose you could pop it into the crafting grid in a fashion similar to slabs, but the automatic positioning seems like it would be even more of a hassle than it is already.
ParallaxError Posted January 2, 2025 Author Report Posted January 2, 2025 Honestly, I don't mind the idea of something similar to slabs as they are. Once you get used to how to place them its alright. Although, the hitboxes might need to be tweaked so that the vertical placement is smaller since it can be easy to place a vertical slab instead of a regular one.
Zack_a_Riz Posted January 3, 2025 Report Posted January 3, 2025 I must admit that it costs nothing to be able to give us the choice of choosing whether we want to have the door at the back, in the middle or in front of the block! I agree that would be great! 1
Apocalypse_Andy Posted January 4, 2025 Report Posted January 4, 2025 I would love some 3 wide, double doors. Let's get right on that.
JAGIELSKI Posted January 4, 2025 Report Posted January 4, 2025 Recently learned that QP Chisel Tools has an option to make custom doors from chiseled blocks, so you could always go that route to get what you want.

This is something i want so bad. 3 wide and 5 wide of each height variant of door/gate. so if your build has an odd amount of blocks, you're not assed out of using double doors. Too bad i don't know how to mod, or id try it myself 1

I'd use the placing system for pots and bowls, where you can click in a corner, and start placing the bowls in each corner, or you can click in the center and place a single bowl in the center. For doors, you'd have, I guess, five placement locations. You could click close to any of the four faces of the floor block, to get the door to place close to there, or you could click in the center of the block, and the door would be placed in the center oriented to block you. (give me a minute, I'll try and draw a diagram). The only issue I can see is that when a center placed door opens, it's going to open beyond the block it's been placed on. Trouble.
