Kevin Eric Snell Posted December 26, 2024 Report Posted December 26, 2024 Is this supposed to work? Because pressing, holding, repeatedly pressing shift all do nothing to stop sleep partway through the night, and neither does pressing shift and walking.

It's supposed to work, but it's a bit janky and could some use tuning in my opinion. Similar to there being a short delay before your character drifts off to sleep, I'm fairly certain there is also a short delay before your character actually wakes up. So you'll need to hit shift fairly early if you don't want to sleep too many hours away. That being said...I also wouldn't be surprised if it was bugged at this time. In the meantime, I'd recommend just finding some things to do around the base while you wait for time to pass, if you don't want to sleep for the full duration, or find a safe spot to stick your character for a few minutes and let the game keep running while you go AFK. 1 1
Oofishy Posted January 10, 2025 Report Posted January 10, 2025 I have noticed some strange behavior here to, i’m my experience it seems like you are unable to wake up if you are in a menu, like the character info or inventory, it also seems like it gets you up as you hit shift, but still shows a short fade from black animation before you can move. 2

Aye, having any window open while sleeping will prevent "Shift" from working. 1
Kevin Eric Snell Posted January 11, 2025 Author Report Posted January 11, 2025 Arrrrrrgh, I always keep my character tab on to keep track of the time. Okay.
Velynicus Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 That has certainly bitten bit me. Curious if anyone knows how the vanilla game "prevents sleep". I've seen several mod approaches that "remove" the block class from beds so that they become inert decorative blocks. But that's not how it is accomplished in temporal storms....or is it? 1

Is that it? ? ? Goodness knows that I've hit this issue myself any number of times! As LadyLWT excellently put it - "Janky." Will have to see if I can confirm that as a cause when "sleeping in" because the <Shift> doesn't respond. If that is true, then that is a bug pure and simple, to be reported. So much so that in my main base, I keep the three different types of beds available, so that I can pick the one best suited to my wake up time. 1 hour ago, Velynicus said: That has certainly bitten bit me. But that's not how it is accomplished in temporal storms....or is it? Preventing sleep during Temporal Storms is something different - a configuration setting: /worldconfig temporalStormSleeping 1 And as I've commented in other posts, that's basically a trap to get you killed, as it doesn't actually prevent anything from spawning next to your bed and killing you. Sleep in the vanilla game should always be interruptible by <Shift> otherwise. On 1/11/2025 at 3:09 PM, Kevin Eric Snell said: Arrrrrrgh, I always keep my character tab on to keep track of the time. Okay. Use the mod "Simple HUD Clock" - I swear that this is so wonderful it should be base game. Professor Dragon. Edited November 26, 2025 by Professor Dragon
Straille Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 (edited) interesting i always sleep with the character window open so that i can get up on time, and i haven't had any issues oh, but i do use immersive mouse mode, so maybe that's it Edited November 26, 2025 by Straille 2
Vexxvididu Posted November 27, 2025 Report Posted November 27, 2025 It would be kind of nice if there was a dialog box that let you decide how many hours to sleep (up to the bed limit of course). But especially during winter I often like the ability to just pass the time rapidly. 1

During the summer months I tend to sleep way too much, but during winter I get up way too early. 2
