ElZers Posted October 29, 2025 Report Posted October 29, 2025 Hello everyone reading this post ! I was wondering if it's possible to add realms or dimensions like in minecraft, I would love to try and recreate dimensions like Angrypixel's Betweenlands mod, or the nether on vintage story as well as adding extra details that go well with vs gameplay. I am very foreign to modding and coding, I know how to make textures and modeling w tools like blockbench and aseprite though. If anyone has advice on how to create content for this amazing game, I would love to read it, thx again for reading the post xoxo ElZers.
Diff Posted October 29, 2025 Report Posted October 29, 2025 VintageStory does have a feature called Dimensions that I've bumped into while swimming through the docs. I'm not sure it's equivalent to Minecraft dimensions though. For building a new dimension I'm sure you would need a pretty hearty amount of C# and a hefty amount of research to power it all. If you're starting out modding, I'd definitely recommend checking out the guides and tutorials for it on the wiki! 2 1
Maelstrom Posted October 29, 2025 Report Posted October 29, 2025 Dimensions in VS are used to handle certain game mechanics, like boats and lighting effects. The closest thing to TOBG dimensions is Spoiler the time shift skill in Chapter 2. and I'm not sure if that could be used in the more classical sense of dimensions. 1 1
Thorfinn Posted October 29, 2025 Report Posted October 29, 2025 On its face, Dimensions should be capable of 4 billion alternate worlds. But it seems to be a rather limited set of block and attribute swaps. At least at present. Assuming that's the intent behind it, limited timeswitch or maybe limited rust world interaction in story events, it won't be full-featured enough to make a playable dimension of any magnitude. Pocket planes, maybe. But like @Diff said, learn C#. You could add your own methods to butch the Dimensions class. Good luck and welcome to the forums, @ElZers 1
LadyWYT Posted October 29, 2025 Report Posted October 29, 2025 I'm thinking that dimension support(like Minecraft's Nether/End, or modded Minecraft dimensions) is planned, but maybe not fully implemented. Or the structure might be there for modders to add dimensions like that, just no one has had the drive to sit down and figure it out. 1
ElZers Posted October 29, 2025 Author Report Posted October 29, 2025 Thank you all for replying, I'll look more into the type of realm/dimension and as suggested, I will have to learn more about C# and read trough the wiki guides. Thanks everyone!

Considering the homepage originally tied the game to Lovecraftian themes. Lovecraft rarely delved into travelling to alternate dimensions. When he did it was a dream world type dimension.

Right, I wouldn't expect the player to actually be traveling to other dimensions as part of the story. Just that dimension support might be built into the game engine, in case someone wanted to add one via mod.
