Blackbomber Posted December 24, 2025 Report Posted December 24, 2025 New to the game and I know it's not an easy game, but having trouble getting just getting into the game when every world seed I get just ends up being terrible or mostly terrible. I been trying to find a world seed that has plains with forests but has valleys with mountains and rivers, as I downloaded the river mod. Haven't had much luck so far tho, so was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good seeds.
Vexxvididu Posted December 24, 2025 Report Posted December 24, 2025 Welcome to the forums and the game! SO, if you are using any mods that modify world generation, then a world seed might look very different for you than the same seed in a vanilla game. If you aren't liking the worlds you're getting, you might consider removing those mods. Also know that all sorts of things in your settings can totally change the world generation from the same seeds.
DharmaCreed Posted December 24, 2025 Report Posted December 24, 2025 (edited) I don't use the rivers mod, but "The Edge" spawns you in a valley with mushrooms, fruit bushes, reeds in nearby ponds, a few nearby trees (one of them seems guaranteed to produce resin), a snowcapped mesa to the north, nearby caves are sheer vertical drops but don't seem to go too deep? ...And you spawn next to two huge piles of Bauxite. I haven't played with this seed long, too busy futzing with world gen settings trying to find a mix where it's not either endless landmass or an ocean world of small islands. Just noted how solid a spawn "The Edge" is for a seed. If you're unlucky, bears might spawn nearby, but that's as bad as it gets. Edited December 24, 2025 by DharmaCreed

Well I did try Vanilla generation at first, as I dont like to use mods right away, but all I kept getting was endless landmass or ocean world of small islands after tweaking the settings. And a lot of the time its endless gravel deserts with hills.

If so, then sharing the seed will allow people to play the same world. However if you've made changes to the world settings, then they will not get the same world you're playing. Even choosing "patchy" climate will produce a different world (I play with "patchy" climate, which is how I know this to be true). @Blackbomber Seeds can be tricky. As @Vexxvididu mentioned, other settings in world customization can completely change the terrain. Not only do you need the seed, but also the world settings... AND sometimes mods too, as is the case for the River Mod. You might have better luck looking at ytubers using that mod, as you can see if their world appeals to you (some will share seeds and world settings). 2

Well to be honest I been trying to find a place like what I saw in the 2022 trailer. I think a cabin by the lake/pond sounds nice. 1

I know some people keep trying seeds until they love their start locations. This is possible, but just takes a lot of tries. The world generation has a lot of variability. 1
LadyWYT Posted December 24, 2025 Report Posted December 24, 2025 My general strategy when it comes to finding "good world seeds" is to focus less on getting a specific seed and more just playing with the worldgen settings until I get the ratio of land/water and land features(like hills and plains) that I want. For me, the default settings are a good mix, though I turn landcover down to 80% so that there are some large bodies of water to work with. The next thing I look for is what kind of building materials are available around spawn. Are there several rock types to choose from, or is the surrounding landscape dominated by a single rock type like granite, andesite, or bauxite? Multiple rock types are preferable since that not only means a greater variety of potential available ore, but also more variety of building materials to pick from and thus more style options. 38 minutes ago, Vexxvididu said: You can likely find places like that in just about any seed, but can't count on just starting there. The world generation has a lot of variability. Pretty much, and one reason I worry less about finding the "perfect spot" and focus instead on just finding a nice spot that offers a lot of potential. Half the fun of building is picking a nice spot as the starting canvas and turning it into a stunning spot over time. A pond can be added easily enough to any build, provided that buckets are allowed to place water blocks. If there are plains but no hills, then I can build a grand watchtower to serve as a viewpoint instead. Lots of hills with no plains can easily become a series of terraces or hobbit holes. 2
Zane Mordien Posted December 24, 2025 Report Posted December 24, 2025 @Blackbomber This one is pretty nice, except the bears bears and more bears. 1350667908 3
SalliedForth Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 This is one of the best seeds I've ever had, and I've played a lot of games - I love starting over. Here's the seed: 2025-12-25 (I always use the ISO date of the day when I start the world) It's on chalk with slate and perodotite underneath. There's 4 translocators very near spawn, at least 4 more translocators that I've found less than a trader's journey from spawn. Also uncommon rainfall, which I really like to have where I settle down. There's a lot of other nice things too, but I don't want to spoil it for you. I can assure you there are some nice surprises for you.
