Please help. I feel like everything takes too long to do and I just shut down.

It's because I made it to steel. Even though I know there's resonance archives the path is sooo long to get there (As in literal distance) And I just don't wanna bother. Especially because my best gear is like.. copper lamellar. And only a single piece.

It's not that I don't know how to get there. I can make outposts, stock them with grain and sealed crocks. Then just move between them like an old relay system. But it's just the effort and time for something that I'm not sure I'll ever be ready for.

I decided to move my iron anvil and forge into my house's basement. alongside my clay oven. This way I'm spending less time running back and forth all over and can do two things at once to at least feel like i'm making more progress.

But still.. It's getting kind of difficult. Will try though as I love this game x3

When I get to that point, I start over.

I'll likely never make steel because it's not fun for me to spend that time when I could go explore.

By the same token, I cheat to get past the RA boss because that fight is a disappointing arcade mini-game.

BTW, I believe you can reduce the distance to the story location in the settings.

Do what makes you happy.  :)

Enjoy!

In this case, you might just turn down the distance scaling for story structures when you generate a new world. You can find the setting to do so under the World Generation tab. I think turning it down to 50% might make the RA easily reachable within a day's travel on foot.

The minimum gear requirement is tier 2 for the RA, but that doesn't mean you can't do it with less. Depends on your skill level. There's also no harm in just waiting until you have iron or steel either.

As a general rule, whenever I start getting bored with one task in the game, I switch to something else. Tired of smithing? Time to go mining, or hunting, or exploring, or whatever feels most fun to do at the time. Even if I don't actually need the resources I'll still go hunting or foraging or whatever just to have a change of pace, as those are activities I greatly enjoy.

Also like @HalfAxd said, sometimes I just set that world aside and start over fresh, picking a different class, starting climate, or installing some mods to freshen up the gameplay. And of course, sometimes I just don't feel like playing Vintage Story and go play a different game for a while instead. It's not a bad thing at all to just take a break when you start to feel burnout and come back later with a fresh mind.

Everyone enjoys different levels of grind.  Some of them can be tweaked in settings like block and tool durability, some of them can't.  Iron is perfectly sufficient in vanilla VS especially if you bring down the creature strength, but even with default settings if you enjoy the challenge of combat.  A lot of these can be changed in the config files even after world gen.

I think you're underestimating just how far you can run in one day. You shouldn't really need to put food into any outposts. I just took a couple of sealed crocks with me and started running. I only made an "outpost", when it got dark, and that was just a 2x2 soil hut. Just enough to sleep through the night. I think I only needed to do that once, before reaching the archives, but that will depend on how long your time of day in the current season is.

I would suggest some better gear than that. I went for the strongest armor: Steel Plate Armor. That definitely wasn't needed, though. Some iron armor should be more than strong enough. You can always bring a temporal gear to set your spawn, so you don't have to run all the way there again, should you die.

I estimate I have about 1000+ hours in this game so far and I have never been to the RA.

Its not a requirement of course

iron chain is more than enough, in my experience.

it's doable with bronze lammelar or chain, though i'd recommend setting spawn nearby if so.

and @OP, if you're ever interested in starting a new world, there are settings for lowering the distance to the story locations. Ch 2 is *way* farther than RA. There's no shame in lowering the distance if you don't have hours of time to travel.

Though you do also get a much faster option for traveling after completing the first story dungeon. That also helps a lot

In addition to what other people have said - cheat.
It's okay.

I've done the journey to the story events on worlds with larger scaling for the story structures aaaaaand . . . . never again. Apart from overcoming the challenge and getting that sense of achievement (tick - done that), the week plus long trip didn't really add a lot to my life. Sure, I discovered some nice structures along the way. However, they are all so far away you're unlikely to come back to them anyway.

The main thing that the long trip did was blow out my game save file by a huuuuuge amount.

You have three options.

1) Decrease distance for the story missions, as per @LadyWYT's suggestion.
Trap: If you make it too small, you will be forever seeing a later story mission on the skyline.

2) Spawn the story location at a place of your choosing.
Easy to do, and means you have your main base set up near it.

3) Get the co-ordinates and teleport there.

Professor Dragon.
