Dilan Rona Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 Discord to Demand Face Scan or ID to Access All Features Discord’s age gates also hinge on constant behavioral monitoring that shadows users across the platform. https://reclaimthenet.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/CJU1cDVZ9AkJ-scaled.jpg Stand against censorship and surveillance: join Reclaim The Net. Discord is preparing to make age classification a constant background process across its platform. Beginning next month, every account will default to a teen-appropriate experience unless the user takes steps to prove adulthood. Age determination will sit underneath routine activity, shaping what people can see, say, and join. For accounts that are not verified as adult, access will narrow immediately. Age-restricted servers and channels will be blocked, voice participation in live “stage” channels will be disabled, and automated filters will apply to content Discord identifies as graphic or sensitive. Friend requests from unfamiliar users will trigger warning prompts, and direct messages from unknown accounts will be routed into a separate inbox. https://reclaimthenet.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/CV1O6tYrtVLp.jpg Core features such as direct messages with known contacts and servers without age restrictions will continue to function. Age-restricted servers will effectively disappear until verification is completed, including servers that a user joined years earlier. The global rollout reflects a broader regulatory environment that is pushing platforms toward more aggressive age controls. Discord has already tested similar systems. ...
Vexxvididu Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 The thing is.... this isn't really about discord the application, it's about certain draconian legislation they have to follow. Any discord competitors will have to do the same if they get too big to fly under the radar. I don't like it, but discord isn't really the problem. Don't want to get too political here, but this is a problem with certain governments, not apps.
marmarmar34 Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 I'll just add by saying Steam has all the features Discord has and then some. You can make groups and discord-like channels in your friends list with different categories.

In line with what I replied to Vexxvididu (that's a fun username to type!), the reason Steam doesn't have to do more than pull up a prompt requiring you to enter your date of birth (which can be faked, btw), is that people aren't using steam to contact minors for nefarious purposes, like they are using Discord. In fact, I cannot recall the last time I actually had a conversation with someone via Steam, but maybe it's time to switch... 2 1

Citation needed. Current Discord doesn't even allow read-only access without providing a phone number. They have had massive data breaches without any consequences. IMO, companies and their executives should face criminal consequences for any kind of data breach. The only thing I can think of, when comes to people going along with the current Discord crap is "sheeple". What is pretty much certain is that Discord will have massive data breaches in the future, leaking your personal and biometric data. The ironic thing is, I would be willing to help with the hopelessly out of date wiki (I have contributed to a lot of wikis). There is zero chance that I'll get a Discord account asking for permission. Edited February 10 by pigfood

Not even sure what you mean by this given that a lot of governments have passed very well publicized anti porn legislation around requiring age verification. This includes the UK government and many US states. I'm not trying to get into the politics of it, but this is a pretty well known thing. 2 hours ago, pigfood said: They have had massive data breaches without any consequences. I also do not trust them with personal data at all. I'm just saying government regulations are deliberately killing the golden era of easy anonymous access.

Not even that, anything that those authorities feel is not appropriate for young adults. I did not verify a claim I heard and its a bit hard to do so retroactively but from my understand Youtube censored the Chinese military parade from kids using this tool. So although, not considering that unverified example, the new laws might appear to be benign to many one must understand that its entirely up to the government to decide what is or is not appropriate for young children to see and that can often times be really hard to interpret. Now having a centralized authority deciding for parents what is or is not appropriate for their own children aside for the moment, the main concern is I think all of this data for your face or drivers license is being held by one company world wide. That is concerning, never mind the fact that its been shown age can be reliability verified by photos of ones hand. Grammar is not my best, hopefully all that is readable. 1

I am a father. I decide what is important for my children. NOT SOME DERELICT GOVERNMENT THAT STEALS AND GRIFTS FROM ITS CITIZENRY. Okay. I needed to clear that up. Because a government repair kit is looking rather nice lately. Just under 600 hemp ropes would be stellar. Thank you. Discord can use these measures. I'll use a mask. AI can't tell if im living or not. Come on folks. There are so many ways to work around their overreach. But whats cool about this is that deranged adult chats with nefarious individuals will no longer be able to target children. Yep that's right. Children will no longer be permitted in the cesspool of life. Gotta protect them. Full circle. It's my job not the government's. I don't trust the government to walk with their best foot forward let alone trust them with my children. They'd be safer swimming with Great Whites. Edited Friday at 02:41 PM by OBAMFSpike 1
