As the title asks, do you keep some kind of curated collection of images or other media as inspiration for your builds or goals in Vintage Story?

This could be a folder full of pictures you slowly add to, or a creative world full of little designs you want to build on later, or even a tab of bookmarks in your web browser that you go to now and then. Heck, it could even be saved videos from other folks who do amazing work on these kinds of games that you draw inspo from.

I'm really curious to see how many other folks build on their ideas and collect inspiration, especially in between updates when you're starting plans on those big goals.

For me I do this a lot, mostly to help deal with my anxiety but also to help make plans. I've got a folder with a couple of hundred photos I've either taken IRL, or sourced from different media, a creative world full of practice techniques, and a half-dozen websites bookmarked for historical building techniques.

How far the design rabbithole do you go with yours?

It's less a mood board and more a proverbial dragon's hoard of various interesting things. I've several books with interesting photos and artwork, as well as several sketchbooks full of my own stuff. Several pictures and digital art that I've done over the years, and the internet lets me look up reference images with ease(although I really wish there was a filter to block all the AI stuff--that stuff really isn't very useful most of the time).

As for what inspires me at any given time...I dunno, it just depends. I have favorite styles and whatnot I'll lean towards. I like to build castles and medieval-fantasy style architecture a lot, but sometimes other influences slip in. Sometimes I can just look at a glass marble, enjoy the color and visuals, and make something based exclusively off that.

I would love to be that organised..

..sadly my brain runs on ADHD and vibes. Seems to work out ok, though.

At this point I just approach it as "organized chaos". It doesn't have to make sense to anyone else most of the time, it just needs to make sense to me so that I can find what I need to, when I need to.

I just have a massive dump of images of other people's builds, be it from here, reddit or discord. Most of the time I save those just because I notice some interesting ideas — no matter big or small. Watch them very rarely though. Specific IRL stuff usually gets googled on the spot and saved for later if I decide to work on something for more than a day. Aaaand I have a separate folder for the other block game stuff as well. Some building conventions are interchangeable between the two, after all. Plus my building worlds are filled with partly ready assets in case I need to yoink them anywhere else.
