AkashaTheMaid Posted Sunday at 06:54 AM Report Posted Sunday at 06:54 AM As the title states, I was wondering do they grow back? and if so, under what conditions? do they come back in the same spots? do I need to not build things in a certain area so they can naturally respawn? normally I wouldn't care too much about making sure the mushrooms are respawning in my area but with the addition of the new mushrooms that come with some fun side effects, I'd like to be able to come back and harvest certain ones time and time again for my own enjoyment
Tam Hawkins Posted Monday at 05:15 PM Report Posted Monday at 05:15 PM They do grow back. If I remember rigth a dirt or tree trunk block gets assigned to spawn mushrooms at worldgen/chunkgen and then the mushrooms will regularly regrow there. So they will always be at the exact same place they were before. I am not sure about the exact conditions for the regrow to happen, the only thing I remember is that it has to be above 0°C.
PoisonedPawn777 Posted Monday at 06:43 PM Report Posted Monday at 06:43 PM Yes, they do regrow. It is rather slow and unreliable. I stop harvesting mushrooms once my first crop comes it, need for foraging veggies is early game only or as emergency travel food.

I've never paid attention to how much time it takes for them to regrow, but have quite a lot of trees marked and have harvested from them several times a year. Maybe once a week, or once or twice a month? It's about the same amount of time it takes the pine trees to produce more resin, I think. (30 day months, time-flow halved)
Demoncyborg Posted Monday at 10:27 PM Report Posted Monday at 10:27 PM they do regrow reliably honestly! there's a reason there's a mushroom marker on the waypoints thing in the map. i'd really recommend marking the spots and checking them frequently outside of winter. i plan on doing the same with those new mushrooms B)

On 3/15/2026 at 1:54 AM, AkashaTheMaid said: and if so, under what conditions? I think it depends on the species of mushroom and where you found them. Generally, the more rain that an area has, the faster the mushrooms tend to respawn. The weather should also be decently warm, since cold weather really puts the damper on much of anything growing. Puffballs, red wine caps, and field mushrooms seem to be some of the faster spawning varieties. On 3/15/2026 at 1:54 AM, AkashaTheMaid said: do they come back in the same spots? They don't necessarily spawn on the exact same blocks, but will respawn in that general area. It depends entirely on whether or not you want to keep harvesting those mushrooms. If you want to keep that spot for foraging, best not to build there, but if you don't really care then build away! 1 1
FrogMouse Posted Monday at 10:38 PM Report Posted Monday at 10:38 PM BTW a rain is necessary for the mushrooms to grow back! At least one day in-between + every time it rains when its not too cold
