So just leave them in a bad state? The developers obviously care about these features, or they wouldn’t have put them in the main story, so I don’t think they’re likely to not keep working on these things.

correct, I think they will not continue to work on these things in the same trajectory they have in the past. That is correct.

They made a mistake in focusing on boss fights, I do not know if they are aware of it or not but even if they are not aware of it I do not think you are going to see boss fight like the end story game boss fight in an improved or similar shape regardless of if they are aware of the mistakes they made. Mainly because I am fairly confident only a very small minority of people even did that level at all. I think people who want combo moves and boss fights are more likely to play DOTA 2 than they are Vintage Story

So to repeat, I still hold the position that people do not play this specific game because they are diying to have compelling combo fight moves and boss fight and I am very comfortable making that assertion.

If they want to add more bosses and enemy variety eventually, then combat improvements should be included in that. I'm reminded of how Don't Starve Together leaned in heavily to the raid bosses while the combat is still just basic kiting. At least there's some variety with the character skill trees and stuff? But it's extremely not a game where I enjoy fighting things, as opposed to say, Silksong which is built for fast, reactive combat. I also don't play VS for combat, I've even been turning off surface rifts lately so I only have to deal with enemies in caves/story locations.

My hunch is that they are not going to add anymore boss fights. I could be wrong for sure but I get a feeling that given the fact nearly nobody at all ever plays the final boss in this game that they are going to reconsider how valuable that is. Again, I could be wrong but I think that could be true.

Either way, one thing I can say very confidently is this 'if boss fights is such a cornerstone of the game why has only a small minority of players done the final boss fight'??  I never, I mean never, see a video on youtube of the final boss fight? I have seen Rhadamant do it but its literally the only video I have seen and I get Vintage Story content pushed to me all the time. Its ALL building or exploring and no I do not think its because its not done well. I think its because vast majority of people decide to play this game because they want to do building/craftin/exploring game. If they want to play DOTA 2 they will play DOTA 2

Yes grandpa, it's ok, we get it, you have your one opinion in the world and nothing else could possibly ever compete with that or convince you otherwise. Now take your meds and go to bed.

I'd say considering every story chapter so far had a boss fight and the existence of a discussion about how to make these fights better not remove them, aswell as plenty of other discussions about potentially more enemies and ways to deal with them (what to you is turning everything in the world into a tower defense game) are pretty solid evidence that there is intention from the devs to keep adding more bosses to the end of chapters, that there are people outside of your YouTube bubble who would like to see such content more and that there is alot more potential for adding DOTA2 to your Stardew Valley.

ok, insults aside.

The fact remains the vast majority of people never even get to the final boss fight and the vast majority of Vintage Story videos made are exploring and building. I hold the position that most people come to play Vintage Story for that reason, not because they long for boss fights. I feel very comfortable asserting that.

Not to mention that, as far as I can piece together, Project Glint is supposed to be a little more focused on action and combat, and the Project Glint team seems to lend a lot of their work to the VS team in order to improve those particular aspects of Vintage Story. So I'd only expect the boss fights to get better as the game continues development.

nope.

Based on the fact that in all my hundreds of hours of watching you tube videos of game play I have seen literally only 1 that showed the last boss fight. Nearly every single youtuber I know out there does videos covering by a vast majority, builds, exploring and crafting. There is very few out there of the story missions, some, yes but very small and even smaller when it comes to the last boss fight. I have also played with other people who never have done the last boss fight and said they have not plans to either. I am being objective about this.

More over, this game without question has a very strong aspect to it and that is its building and crafting. I have been gaming long enough to know that is a major focus of this game and it stands to reason that people come here for that. Are you suggesting my reasoning in the previous sentence is wrong?

This does not mean that nobody cares about boss fights, it only means the majority does not.

EDIT: also you can not determine what the majority of VS players want by looking at the forums. The game is estimated to have about 1 million copies sold. There is only about 10 people on the forums who are active.

or maybe to avoid spoilers they just aren't doing them? idk man. There's a lot of explanations. Vintage Story might not get views if their subscribers are used to watching other content. That doesn't mean the boss fights are going to be discontinued by Anego. We don't know that, to say it's true is simply wrong, and at best pure speculation on flimsy evidence.

I thought I just said the are not doing them.

Yes, exactly they are not doing them. You think they are not doing them because they really really want to but just are not for some random reason? Do you really think boss fights is just simply too boring to make for compelling content? really?

Additionally, read the description of Project Glint. They went out of their way to say the things are going to be different from VS is more of a focus on combat, adventure and story telling. Why would they do that?

I am not saying anymore on this, my view is as it stands, if I am presented with more evidence to suggest otherwise rather than speculations I will consider it otherwise I am going to try and refrain. The reasons for my views as I have illustrated has nothing to do with my personal wants or desires at all. I have wants and desires for sure but it does not factor into my equation on my assertion.

I know you aren't saying any more on this, but you might wanna take a step back and re-read what I wrote. Nowhere did I say you said they weren't doing them. I said "maybe to avoid spoilers" 'cause you know, it's still a game in development and stuff, or maybe their subscribers aren't watching their Vintage Story videos.

Anego also said that Project Glint won't affect VS development in any way whatsoever, so balance that fact with whatever you just said, hmm? As it stands I can barely understand what you're trying to communicate because your words here, while making complete sentences, are so disjointed if I heard them in person I'd dismiss you as a raving madman.

I am one of the players that really likes the base-building and other stuff and have not at all engaged with the story content or the boss fights, but I really appreciate that those are there and I plan to do that stuff once everything is more complete. I have a love-hate relationship with boss fights in Valheim - I wouldn't call them fun, and once done they are satisfying, but I don't feel like I need to replay them multiple times afterwards. I hope that the work on Project Glint does improve combat since it isn't particularly engaging now, but realistically I will still eventually get frustrated and cheese the boss fight(s) with a bunker or whatever anyway. Still happy there's a boss to fight!

I actually semi-wish there were more boss-monsters just roaming the countryside. Like imagine dragons flying around or other mega-beasts travelling the countryside, and part of the challenge is being aware of where they tend to go about their business, and going about your own business without being noticed. I feel like bears are almost that, but since they are some kind of bush-ninja and pop out of nowhere it's frustrating - but if the monster was big enough to see easily, or made tons of noise so you knew from a distance to avoid the area, it would be more interesting. Especially if their behaviour was to hang out near some semi-rare resources, so maybe you need to stake out the monster-den to wait for them to leave on their daily hunt so you can get at the resources quickly while they're out.

Are VS youtubers in mass avoiding showing the story missions because of spoilers?

I very seriously doubt it, I have never seen that pattern in mass anywhere ever. Yes I know some people try to avoid spoilers but when it comes to making youtube videos in statistically significate numbers I have never seen spoilers to be much of concern. In fact if anything I see more of a pattern of the exact opposite, map guides, speed run etc (obviously a boss fight map run without reading books is not really a story spoiler). I really do not think most people who play video games are really concerned about accidently seeing a video that happens to show them which door to open, in fact the exact opposite is more common. So, yeah I still feel comfortable in saying that the vast majority of VS youtube videos being of building, exploring and crafting is because those three reasons are actually the main reason people play this game including the Youtubers themselves.

My point regarding Project Glint was a statement made regarding a differentiator between the two projects that the developers explicitly stated, I hope that point can speak for itself in clarity. Key word being 'more'

ok, now I will try again to leave, but I will leave you with this rhetorical question to consider but perhaps not answer.

Do you think I am wrong when I say I think the vast majority of people play this specific game because they are most interested in building, exploring and crafting?

I hope the upcoming update actually improves on combat enough to make it really fun to fight mobs and bosses and stuff. I really want fun combat in the game cause I think the gameplay loop of homesteading and slowly putting together a kit before taking on monsters for story content is really cool. Starting with nothing and then developing armor, and different weapons for different situations only to use all those tools you spent hours putting together to efficently kill stuff is peak kino.

Good Combat is what I want most out of the game, since stuff like farming and smithing and building is so detailed, combat being just as detailed would really make me happy.

I do think improving how combat works will in turn make bosses more fun, but yeah telegraphed attacks and the ability to dip, dodge, or block along with opportunities to really lay in with damage or back up and heal is ideal.

I came to Vintage Story to explore and build, but as interested as I am in the story content, the reason I'll probably never get to the final boss fight is that the combat (and everything tying into it, from the temporal storms to the respawn system) is in a bafflingly awful state at the moment. It's not because I'm not interested in seeing more of the story, or because of some general aversion to combat as a concept.

I'd love for it to be as interesting as the rest of the game is, but right now, it's not.

you are asserting that the reason you are not going to do the story is because of the final boss combat is not compelling to you. I do not want to get into trouble, I do not want to offend but I want to be honest. I do not believe that the primary reason you are not interested in doing the story lines is because of existing combat mechanics. I acknowledge that I might be wrong but I find it hard to believe that this is the primary decision factor.

Alright, mindreader, I guess you know better than I do why I bounced off the Resonance Archives, let's hear what my "primary decision factor" was

hold on this is actually less believable to me than original but let me make sure I get this right.

After having played the game for a good amount of time, experienced how the combat works, you actually tried the RA, you went in, fought monsters, walked around the maze system and at some point you decided that the combat you where experiencing was bad enough that you decided to 'bounce off' the RA? was that during the boss fight or before the boss fight?

or am i misunderstanding what you mean by 'bounced off'

What's your problem with me? I can't possibly be having the experience I'm having?
It's that alien to you that people outside of yourself might have different experiences?
"I don't want to offend", my foot. I'm a stranger to you. I'm sharing my perspective. Why are you giving me the third degree and treating me like some kind of disingenuous liar? What kind of tone is that to take with someone? Is netiquette completely dead around here?

Yes, most of the way through the Commons. I have more engaging things to do with my time, including inside of Vintage Story. I didn't know that there even was a boss somewhere in there until after leaving the Archives, and so far, not a single thing I've heard about it has convinced me it'd be cool or fun or even interesting to push that far. I've been told that the next major update is meant to be taking a longer look at how the combat works, so I'm putting the Resonant Archives out of my mind until then. Is that "believable" enough for you? Do you find it in you to treat me like a sentient human being worth having a genuine conversation with now?

Please don't feed the trolls. Grandpa here has been wandering around unsupervised publicly proclaiming how he "refuses to accept" any reality that doesn't align with his in plenty another discussion already. There is no point arguing and nothing to be gained from trying.
