Really depends on the personality of the player in question and what, if any, prior knowledge of the game they had before starting their first world. The first playthrough will always be pretty rough, even with watching/reading some tutorials beforehand, since watching and reading about a thing are quite a bit different than doing said thing.

i did just that, and was handed a reality check. i got creamed within the first few min. took a few worlds before i got my bearings, and learned how to survive.

How... how does achieving Steel solve food issues?

it doesn't, im also saying spring is here, berries will soon be plentiful. also i made a small farm after this screenshot which is a rebuild of my farmland right next to the tree. i COULD try to eat the steel

What sets this game apart is that accomplishing seemingly small things is a major milestone. Love it.

building a 'Cementation Kiln' is a small thing?

I have no idea what is going on in this thread

someone digressed.

no that does not help me understand

Cementation Kiln which does not exist would require iron regardless of what was meant was Beehive Kiln or not. I feel comfortable saying that by the time one has iron one has food stockpiles taken care of. Additionally stockpile of food would not really need a beehive kiln to sort out. Its not that hard to use a regular kiln to make 12 crocks or so and a few storage vessels and call it done. Finally, there is nothing 'small' about making a Cementation Furnace or a Beehive Kiln. I feel like I am missing out on a joke that I do not get.

So yeah, I do not understand any of it.

Read the posts.  Here's the answer about stockpile of food compared to the cementation "kiln".

ok this is messy to say the least. The second sentence in his OP normally would read that it is related to the first sentence but it appears its two entirely different subject. So for example:  'I finally bought a weed eater. Now I can finally cook Raman'.

I wish I had your skill in reading translation, I do not. This inability of mine often leaves me confused while everyone else seems to understand it the first time. How? I have no idea. Anyway, back to normal programming.

here lemme give you some insight rq, Basically this was my first playthrough and i didn't know about planting crops til the very end of autumn so i only got like one batch of crops out and lost my stockpile of food about 3/8ths of the way through winter. During the summer i had found a massive hematite and cassiterite node in the south, so i had access to get to the iron age almost immediately after the copper age. My world seed is extremely unique as there are two to three other cassiterite nodes near my base, i got extremely lucky with default settings on my first playthrough. Dw about not understanding stuff, people will pretty much always care about explaining things! (or at least i do.)

OH! and also there is a olivine deposit somewhat near my base WITH illemnite in it too! (my nearest bauxite place is like 2k blocks away, thats the only thing i had an issue with)

it also helped that i got enough gold and silver to make a black bronze pickaxe to immediately mine the iron!
