Camron Thackeray Posted September 1 Report Posted September 1 I am still early game and I noticed both are craftable early on and I was wondering what peoples opinions were either way? I think it is really fun that the game has both and although I know wattle has more functionality with daub, I don't know if it should just replace rough hewn fences altogether.
Vratislav Posted September 2 Report Posted September 2 Yes, the functionality "as fences" is the same. I usually make rough hewn fences in early game, as sticks are a bit scarce and have more priority usages. But if you are located in area with plenty of bush and not many trees, wattle fences may get more accessible. (Also, as the first window blocks before glass, I prefer rough hewn fences, as they allow to see more outside trough bigger holes in the fence .) 3
Professor Dragon Posted September 2 Report Posted September 2 I use wattle fences all the way through, up until the point I've made a design choice on the actual fences/walls that I would like aesthetically/have stacks of material for. Shears make this an easier choice once you're along that far. There is just something that seems extravagant about throwing a whole log or two into a fence, when you could just be using sticks. Logs are your source of firewood, charcoal and later all your boards. Besides, throwing three sticks and a knife to whip up a wattle gate to stick outside your front door is just so useful. I use that on every bunker that I build, just to stop drifters poking their heads THROUGH my door (visually only). I agree with both @River Oak and @Vratislav's take on things though also. Nothing wrong with a good rough hewn fence around your garden. 3
SnapJelly Posted September 4 Report Posted September 4 whichever one vibes with you. both are easy enough to make so don't be too concerned with wasting material, do whichever one you think looks cool. Or try both if you so please, see which one you like and use the other one for fuel 2
