I have an idea for a mechanism to make flowers reusable. I do not suggest that flowers die, only that they grow and change with the seasons.
It would be great if you planted flowers like a crop, and as the seasons change they appear as a bulb, then plant, then their flowers show, and finally turn withered and brownish.
They could do this at realistic intervals and not all at the same time. If they had a very slow spreading mechanic, such as a 2% chance per season. It would also be nice if they could regrow in the area they've originally generated at every year.

In game they exist in small patches, but in real life flowers spread and can cover entire fields. The method of changing through the seasons would also make things feel alive and make spring totally exciting to look forward to.

On aesthetics of nature, fall would also be more exciting if the reds, oranges, and yellows were much brighter than they currently are. It's a bit sickly/faded currently and I suppose that would fit with a horror/lovcraftian theme. IRL fall is an amazing time and the brilliant colors can be awesome to take in.

Plus providing natural beauty increases the horror of a shattered world.  Read classic gothic horror (Frankenstein, Dracula) by the original authors and you'll see how they contrasted beauty against the monster to indirectly make the monster ugly.

I just looked up if flowers respawned and this is the first result. Lmao. I 100% agree, I would love more in-depth flower propagation (holding out for even a similar system for fungi!) Though really adding propagation and renewable resources like this just makes me feel more secure and less bad about totally destroying the local ecosystem as a player, lol. Sustainability features like this benefit longterm play and make for less for me to worry about down the line. Stuff like this is a must!

Yeah, having something (like flowers or clams) be unreplenishable is kind of a small annoyance for me. Knowing that a resource is slowly dying out, and there is nothing you can do about it kind of worries me.

There are several mods that allow you to propagate flowers. One that comes to mind that I'm pretty sure is updated is Wild Farming Revived, or something like that.

I agree that in addition to that, it would be nice if decor (I think that's what the game calls those kinds of things in mapgen) were to periodically rerun, though at a much lower rate, but there must have been a reason it was not included in the respawn code.

I have a Chesterton's Fence take on it. Until I understand why it was not included, calling for it to be added is a little rash. I've seen what a mess tree auto-propagating over time caused. You kind of need a birth/death model or some other kind of limiting factor in order for it to not get overwhelming.

I can imagine tree auto-propagation, and I kind of want to see it now. Foliage, bring me more FOLIAGE!

I believe that's an optional part of Wild Farming Revived. Give it a look see.  If you can think of a reasonable means of limiting it, it's possible Spear and Fang would fix it. Just that so far as I kn0w, no one has accomplished that yet.

[EDIT]

I already suggested that mature trees not spawn an additional sapling if that space were closer than x from another tree. I don't remember if I got an answer. Might have even been from back when it was @jakecool19's mod...
