How would you revamp Vintage Story's classes system?
Zane Mordien replied to Calmest_of_lakes's topic in Discussion
Maybe but Blackguard probably isn't what a new player should choose either. You have to learn how to get food before you pick blackguard. Other than that, yeah it's the best class IMO. I think Hunter is another class with tolerable downsides and it helps you early on with food. This is my recommended class to anyone new to the game. Atlhough with the 1.22 spear nerf, that may not be the case anymore I really wish they would give clockmaker something to make up for the massive debuffs. Translocators are just not that powerful anymore now that 1) gears are harder to get and 2) the elk or boat can travel just as far without the hassle of exploring caves to find the translocators. I wish they would buff the translocator to let it go further and the clockmaker should be able to repair it with one temporal gear and 2 rusty gears, set the teleportation range up to 10K and pick the direction. If that seems to powerful then maybe they could add a second temporal gear to pick the range and direction since they know how these things work. -
Sorry, I didn't mean it literally. There is a wolf there hanging out with the bear in the center of the screen shot. I've always found that annoying. Bears and wolves are not friends. They should definately not just hang out together. I don't know if I need them to attack each other, but the AI should be written so the wolf runs away from the bear.

I finally found 6 wolves and another... god knows how many bears. There are 3 bears right on top of each other in the screen shot below. By the time I took this snap shot the one on the left had run after something to kill it, but they were all standing right there within 50 blocks of each other to start with. There is also another bear about 100 blocks to the left of the screenshot and I killed his twin brother already. So thats 5 bears just in this location. I swear every major release they turn up the bears for awhile.

Question for people who play with monter spawn on day one....
Zane Mordien replied to vinnland's topic in Discussion
@vinnland This all depends on how far you think you are going to move. Do you want to move 5-15K blocks away or just somewhere nearby that is perfect? Either way for me the first base location is just a temporary place to get stuff done while you get an anvil. Long Move: Plant only turnips for a quick harvest. You have to forget the clutter you accumlate and just take what you need when you decide to move. The only things that matter are the anvil, temporal gear if you have one, food, flax seeds, cooking pot & bowl, and then anything else you can fit in your inventory. You'll find more of everything else at the new location. I need to be moving by July 1st so there is still time to grow some flax at the new location. If you go far enough south there will be a longer growing season. If you move north you're crazy. Local Move: Plant everything as soon as you get the seeds, because you can always come back and harvest the crops. Scout the area to find the perfect base and when you have the anvil move to the new location. Make small trips to move stuff as you need it. -
The console command is the easier way, but if you for some reason don't have access to the console and can edit the whtie list file then see below: You need your UID which is not your playername. It's a mix of numbers and stuff. This is how the VS server knows who you are. Example:"PlayerUID": "jUmaRpDmzhnf22XD/gJa7kO", You can find it in your Playerdata Json file. { "PlayerUID": "ENTERIDHERE", "PlayerName": "ZaneMordien", "UntilDate": "2075-01-19T23:59:18.4396958+00:00", "Reason": null, "IssuedByPlayerName": "Console" },

I'm not aware of any way to get rid of them. I think this is one of those things they fix in the future, but it's just not he priority.

I got in at the very end of 1.18, right before 1.19 and the story missions started. Progression was very similiar, but the world generation has changed some since then. The ruins completely changed and now there are larger bodies of water that didn't exist in 1.18 or 1.19. I liked the mechanics vs Minecraft. My kid always wanted me to play Minecraft with him, but I found it boring so this was a good alternative to play with him.

This is why my houses are completely stone.

Even vanilla chiseled blocks sometimes break rooms and then some blocks with holes in them still count as a room. It's hit or miss sometimes.
-
Is it just my RNG or are there more bears spawning now that wolves? I've seen at least 20 bears in my world in Pre-3 and exactly 3 wolves. I thought I had seen 5 wolves but turns out two of them were the new boar model. The new models are great btw.

server join issue Struggling with opening my server to the internet
Zane Mordien replied to Massif Sack's topic in Questions
I'm running out of ideas. Whenever this has happened to me I end up having an issue with the serverconfig file somehow. Other than that it's the lame port forwarding issue, but you have other servers that run so it seems like you understand port forwarding on your router. Did you set the port in the serverconfig when you made the change? Have you tried putting the IP address in the server config file? "ServerName": "Vintage Story Server", "ServerUrl": null, "ServerDescription": null, "WelcomeMessage": "Welcome {0}, may you survive well and prosper", "Ip": null, "Port": 42420, "Upnp": false, "UpnpInfiniteLifetime": false, "CompressPackets": true,- 8 replies

server join issue Struggling with opening my server to the internet
Zane Mordien replied to Massif Sack's topic in Questions
@Massif Sack It sounds stupid maybe, but have you tried a different port for VS just to see? If your other games are working with the port forwarding it's hard to understand why VS isn't.- 8 replies

server join issue Struggling with opening my server to the internet
Zane Mordien replied to Massif Sack's topic in Questions
I've definatly had similiar problems after I changed or updated my server install. Drove me crazy until I figured out whatever small error was not allowing it to work. Sounds like you're using the base port 42420 so you don't need to change the port in the serverconfig. The log files say it is booted up properly I assume? Can you connect inside the network? Are you running the server through Pterodactyl, virtual machine, docker container, etc...? I mainly use Pterodactyl and as a App in TrueNas.- 8 replies

server join issue Struggling with opening my server to the internet
Zane Mordien replied to Massif Sack's topic in Questions
Can you not connect or is it refusing connection? The whitelist is turned on by default as of about a year ago in 1.21 I think. If you haven't played since the whitelist was defaulted to on then that could be the problem. If the whitelist is the problem then you need to do one of these things: add yourself to the whitelist in the console commands, add yourself manually to the white list file, or turn off the whitelist in the serverconfig file. I've had issues turning if off in the serverconfig sometimes so that may not always work.- 8 replies

Kurrazarh is still my favorite but mostly because he is kid friendly for the most part and I have my kid watch him when he wants to watch VS stuff. My other favorite youtubers for VS are not so main stream. The streamer that got me into VS was @Rakoona. I was having an issue doing a POI in Empyrion and found his channel and then that was a gateway game to VS. He built his first base in a forest and fought off bears every 5 seconds. He also has burned his base down many times which is great content. I love watching Enns13 do his wilderness survival, snowball earth, permadeath runs as well but he is more of a twitch streamer than youtube. Then GGbeyond was my other favorite to watch but he quit playing after the addition of the shiver and bowtorn becuase he also played Wilderness Survival and refused to hide during temporal storms. Wilderness survival throws you in a 5K block area on respawn so he gave up the game at that point because he could never find his way back to his base. Ashantin was cool I liked some of her stuff, Timmytwonipples was fun to watch, Rhadamant has a great voice but he rubbed me the wrong way with some of his commentary, but that's probably just my personality doesn't mesh with his.

translocator Шаткий транслокатор не работает

You gotta love google translate. -
Nice. Definately the eldritch horror vibe to that statement.

But, does Matrix shut down such servers when they are pressed? or do they say, we are not in control of those servers? Like I said, Discord doesn't care they just want money, but when pressed they act. I don't really know how Matrix works, but I did glance over the website and it appears like a decentralized type of system where they do not have any control. Maybe I'm wrong.

To me there is already magic in the game, but its more Lord of the Rings magic vs D&D magic. Although translocators are pretty D&D magical since they flat out magically transport you somewhere else. Everything else is the vague alchemy/magic of the temporal technology. Transforming humans into serphs and hurling them through time is also very magical. If they keep heading down the path of explaining how it all happened while you work with the imortral (more magic) guy from chapter 2, it seems like we will be learning more of that "magic", but I don't think we will be throwing fireballs or anything.

Agree they were in a certain area, but not always the same type of trader. I played one world multiple times and the type of trader was random. I need to load a world a few times and see if the traders are the same.
-
I love the rework of the traders in 1.22. I'm not sure I love that most of them are hiding in bunkers, but I understand that it fits in better with the lore. Some of the other traders are quite interesting. I'm not sure if is a spoiler to talk about them since it is probably more fun to find them yourself the first time. Are trader locations tied into the seed now? I feel like I had the same trader in the same place twice just like ruins are located in the seed. I guess that would make sense now that their structures are different and not just wagons.

First and foremost, I get the concept, but I think they would still need to moderate it if it is a Official server. They wouldn't want it to be overun with people that post porn images for example. That is just bad press they do not want. I know nothing about this Matrix server, but the problem I see is that typically the "secure and decentrallized" communcation programs turn into cesspools of unregulated sites that focus on hate speach, illegal activites, porn, etc... that they don't want to be associated with. Even if they moderate their own server, when the news starts reporting on all the disgusting things that are going on <insert decentralized platform here> Tyron probably doesn't want to have his studios name associated with that. Now Discord has the same problem, but they close those sites down when they become a problem so they give the appearance of caring. Do they realy care? No, because no corporation really gives a hoot, but they care about money and if they don't regulate it they loose money. Decentrallized sites just go, "not my problem, speak to the server owner because we just provide the software and do not host it on our servers." Meanwhile all the nasty servers are located in some country that will never crack down on them. The big brother world sucks, but people suck as well. Left without moderation everthing online turns into hate and illegal porn.

There are still too many bears. I don't mean the one bear by itself. I mean the 2-3 that spawn on top of each other.
