  1. @DroopyPawn You need to turn it into a pelt first. Then with the knife it will give you the head and pelt, which you can turn into the armor or that awesome looking bear armor.
  2. This is my issue as well. They look cool, but it is a bit much. This would be especiallly confusing for a new player. This is 100% the way to go. Otherwise you would never be able to do anything but forage. That's always been though to be fair. Until you get a harvest of flax or something it's hard to feed them. The longer grain growing times does slow that down.
  3. If you don't have enough time to play the game then it's not really the same thing. I used to play MMOs and spent 40+ hrs a week playing. I can no longer do that, but there is no option in an MMO except pay to win. In a game like VS, if you don't have the time for the grind then by all means Mod it to your satisfaction.
  4. I'm having this argument with myself right now about RC2. I had chainmail pants and half of the parts made for the new windmill in prerelease 5 then I started over in RC2. I'm staring at a pile of iron blooms and I think I'm just going to delete the iron it would take to create what I had before and go from there. I'm so stuborn though that I think I'm cheating if I don't do it all over again even though this isn't even a stable release.
  5. You are going to need to find borax as well if limestone is not available.
  6. It won't change the rock layers. It changes the frequency of rain as far as I understand it. You spawn into Bauxite and granite, which is not exactly a good combination. The surrounding rock types are other igneous rocks with some shale and claystone sprinkled in. Limestone is not in your future. If you want to play this seed you would have to get bronze and hunt down borax to make leather. Claystone is nearby which is where I usually find borax so that path is possible. That is the beauty of VS, there is another path. Sometimes you have to ignore what everyone else is doing. Just like when you are trying to find bronze you may end up with bismuth bronze instead of tin bronze because that is what the seed gives you. I didn't hunt down borax but it is there somewhere in the claystone region.
  7. I'm wondering if when they add rivers they change the terrain generation as well. They have been slowly tweaking it, which I find intersting. I wonder why sometimes they change things just a tiny bit. I notice because I load the same seed up every release to see if they changed generation and it always changes just a little. At 100% landcover by the way. On caves, I believe I remember Tyron giving an interview saying they were just placeholders really. With all the lore about living in caves, I hope they get a major update someday. The pits of death everywhere do get a little old.
  8. I'm starting to get there myself. I sneak an hour in whenever I can around the kids, job, exercise, yardwork, cleaning the house, etc... I miss those days of long ago when I would just play a game all weekend long.
  9. If you want oceans it's sort of luck of the seed unless you turn down landform a lot. Try 975848118 as a seed if you want oceans nearby. You start on an island which isn't optimal but if you go west there is a larger island with halite and to the south (go straight south from the spawn island 2500 blocks) is a large landmass if you want more land. It's also a limestone start so you have that resource right away.
  10. This has been happening to me, but my answer is if the game doesn't load a trader then I go /gm2 and pick the trader I want and load them in. My first 2 trader huts were empty for multiple days so tada I now have 2 traders I wanted close to my base.
  11. If you are limited on time then I would find a mod that gives you the playstyle you want. Every release definitely adds more chores. That's a lame comment sometimes but the game is definitely a time sink and if you don't have time, then make it work for you.
  12. I think this should apply to player grown bushes. The wild bushes you can't transplant, but the player grown bushes could be easily moved. That would be a good balance in my opinion.
  13. One thing that is bugging me as I play the rc more is how much harder it is to find the berries. For experienced players, that probably isn't an issue since we know how to feed ourselves. For new players it might be a little more punishing since now berries aren't as easy to find in the early game when that is what the new player lives on. Heck that is why the second rank on this board is a you eating berries.
  14. I don't know, since this game isn't a finished product I don't see anything wrong with people voicing their opinions on what they think it should be. If this game was finished, that would be a different story, but now every release changes a major mechanic. Why not throw your idea out there? I keep wanting to provided examples of discussions, but that would probably side track the thread so I don't want to do that. 100% because when I started, some poeple were still upset that drifters could throw rocks now. If you keep playing it will happen to you as well. When something changes that impacts something you found fun in the game then you will be annoyed by it and the next set of players won't understand because it has always been that way for them. I dislike them for example because they changed a very fun time aspect of the game for me, but oh well that is the way of things. Find fun in something else or find a new game. I do enjoy when poeple want to discuss their point of view and not just stonewall. It's like playing a game of "what if" to me.
  15. But was it really off topic? Well you haven't ignored me yet so I guess I'm not .. too bad. Although I have my moments. One of those bad days as @Rick Howd pointed out. I try to catch myself, but my love of being contrary gets the better of me. Just know that you guys are saving my marriage by being around so I can be contrary on the forums and not to my wife .. as much.
  16. Has anyone else had an issue with throwing your fireclay bricks by accident? I noticed this in Pre4 and 5 and now in rc1 and 2. I'm stacking the bricks and it will just throw one occassionaly, which is probably because I slightly got off the stack maybe? This is one of those features I can live without. I never want to throw my bricks like rocks.
  17. I don't see it like you do. There are people who get stuck on their thing and you just have to not engage them after they state their opinion. There have been one or two that have gone a little far and they got warned. As far as forums go that I've been a part of in my time, this one is no where near what I would consider toxic.
  18. I haven't really considered all of the clothing, but the grass stuff is a little to easy IMO.
  19. I guess I'd rather have new discussions about the same topics occasionaly then have 1000+ page posts that no one is going to bother to read anyway. Although I guess nowadays you can have AI read it for you and summarize it. I believe feedback is good for the developers if they even bother to read the forums. Will they act on what we post? Probably not, but every so often maybe something interesting is posted that they take an idea from for the future. Man, working with the Japanese nearly killed me, because they would agree in a meeting to be polite and then the next meeting they wanted to reopen the issue and discuss it again. It was a steep learning curve to figure out how to discuss things with them productively. Always and I mean Always speak up. Just don't take it personal when people don't agree and don't get sucked into the spiral of trying to change someone's opinion because that will never happen. I have lots of bad opinions and that's okay. Some people will always say whatever mechanic is perfect, some will say burn it all down and someone will say that's just a bad idea. I've had to sit through so many training classes at work on how other people perceive what you say and do. For me personally, I haven't taken any great insult by your comments to whatever crack pot complaint or idea I've had.
  20. I was definately able to get two grain crops by winter in Pre 5.
  21. It's so rare I even look for copper beyond the surface ore deposits. On that note, maybe I should turn them down in the settings to force me to find copper. Surface copper is just so abundant, which I understand is needed for newer players since they aren't as good at finding it.
  22. With all the vertical shafts and upheaval created mountains I don't usually have to dig.
  23. I'm a /gm 1 or /gm 2 person myself.
  24. I was thinking those patches were bigger. That explains it. I hadn't noticed on the yields, but I wasn't paying attention either.
