  1. I keep a stack of dirt on me and seal the entrance to the translocator room immediately after I teleport. Then I dig straight up and use ladders to get to the surface. Just remember to put a torch in the room or it will have nasties for you when you return.
  2. Man, that's annoying. You won the lottery of bad VS luck.
  3. Story locations for me fall into the reward category. I just want a reason to explore the depths. Maybe some new "unobtainum" ore or something spawns in randomly located dungeon at the bottom of caves that you can find by exploring only, just without the blue people and alien planet.
  4. Welcome, I hope you guys all love the game. 2. Don't forget you can make simple clothes from hides. Repairing clothes is only a thing if you want to look cool. IMO flax and linen are too valuable to waste on repairing clothes. 5. I would recommend 5,000 in each direction before you go 10,000. Unless you get really unlucky you should find lime or chalk in one direction. Also make note of bauxite if you see it. If you find a translocator it might be worth the 3 temporal gears to let it teleport you somewhere else to see if you have better luck on lime. Translocators generally go about 5k but it could be shorter. 7. Just mass kill surface drifters. On high activity nights there will be tons of them and if you use an improvised shield and armor with a copper falx only, you can kill them pretty easy by letting them through a door in a controlled manner. If you want to be creative you can make drifter killing pits and stuff to kill them, but I personally prefer to get my hands dirty.
  5. I love the concept of the new mobs, but I don't think they are balanced. In general I'm starting to think the nightmare damage tier is just too much unless they add some reward to offset the risk. Forgetting the storms, just day to day having nightmare shiver and bowtorns just make me ignore caves after a certain depth. There is nothing of value in caves that make it worth fighting a nightmare anything. I don't really want them dropping better loot either because people will just set up mob farms and make another problem. Maybe something in the future will make cave exploring necessary at those depths. Even then I wish the shiver and bowtorn were a little less common. I used to love the thrill of running into the saw blade locust in caves and having to figure out how to deal with it. I want the new mobs to be the same thrill and not just drudgery.
  6. Wow, is that a verified %? I don't understand the purpose of the storm since the loot from a storm is trash basically. The risk vs reward is out if balance. I guess from the early release candidates I was hoping the bowtorn were going to be sprinkled in to make you have to watch for ranged damage and the shiver to chase you down to keep you on your toes. Instead I feel like temporal storms are just bowtorn storms. Like all games someone is going to find the new Meta way to cheese the storm and then it's right back to where we started.
  7. I always keep my shears and axe in my hotbar when travelling with the elk. It's annoying but I just cut down whatever is in my way, unless of course it is a mountain then you have to go around. I made it to the story locations much faster than if I had to run there on foot.
  8. Maybe I'm crazy but I feel like when I increase the water cover to get oceans I get more concentrated animal spawns on the available land. How does the code handle the initial animal spawns? Does it just spawn animals in across the map and if the spawn point is unavailable, does it shove the animal to the nearest land? OR am I just imagining things?
  9. I want to update my response. I was creating some snowball earth maps with 70% land cover and I kept seeing multiple double spawning polar bears. Beyond that I was seeing way more bears than I'm used to seeing in these worlds.
  10. I still use the flint axes for firewood, but I long ago lost my love of making iron. It's fun, but it becomes tedious for me. I usually push hard to get the iron anvil and then switch over all my tools to meteoric iron because it's faster to process. I save my iron for armor and steel after that.
  11. I've read other posts about it being random, but every storm I've seen is exactly the same. I guess the RNG gods hate me because I always get tons of bowtorns in storms. As soon as I stick my head out I get shot at 100 times. I saw someone else post that they wait for a storm that is mostly drifters and fight that storm, but again I haven't seen that storm yet.
  12. Same as others, I just buy it. I don't consider it worth my time. Maybe during the winter I will look for it to kill time.
  13. I've been playing 2 worlds since 1.20 and I haven't noticed an increase. Some areas are just worse IMO. The RNG sometimes takes a crap on you. If it is annoying you there is a mod that halves the bear spawns. I use it sometimes when I get fed up with them. I can kill them but honestly sometimes I get tired of running into them constantly and having to waste my time getting rid of them.
  14. You need to find salt to preserve that meat!
  15. Hard pass for me for 2 & 3. The storms are already a mechanic that most people dislike and avoid so double and tripling down on making them more annoying seems like a bad idea, but heck maybe they will love the idea and implement it. Now if you are talking about "special" storms that are part of the storyline progression that you trigger, those are all cool ideas. A harder storm that is a reaction to some in game trigger would fit and be more like a boss fight.
  16. No freeloaders! Besides what Thorfinn said, give everyone some spears and tell them to start hunting. The pigs, moose and big horn are somewhat easier to hunt since they don't run as much. Some good hunting parties should come back with lots of meat that will help solve the problem and they will kill wolves at the same time for some meat to snack on. I've survived in snow ball earth just hunting moose, bears and wolves so it's not that hard.
  17. Welcome to the forums and hope you enjoy the game as much as I do.
  18. Haha, that's exactly how I feel when I open my chest that is full of them. Why do I collect these anyway?
  20. I'm not trying to poo on people building ways to deal with it, which is why I didn't post on that thread and take away from the conversation. Yes, I'm annoyed, but I really do want to understand what is the intention of the making the storms that hard? To stop people from farming them for temporal gears or those ever so useful Junkas... I mean Jonas parts? I fought the storms to pass the time before really. Jonas parts: No mater how many Jonas parts I got, I never had enough to build anything even with the easier storms. Was I missing something? Temporal Gears: You definitely could get too many after fighting several storms, but so what? What can you do with them really besides repair translocators? I haven't done the new stuff in 1.20 so is there something super useful that is a spoiler? I'd accept that as a better reason. Otherwise so what you can translocate all over the place. While it's fun to do, it doesn't really help you that much. It just let's you explore more area of the map and now with the elk it's easier to ride there than try out 10 translocators to finally find one that goes the direction you want.
  21. Bumping and old thread, but I just did my next storm and I'm really not happy with the changes to the storms. Having so many Nightmare shivers and bowtorns is just stupid. It's just forcing people back into cheesing or turning off the temporal storms instead of really risking a fight. Unless they really want us to make these elaborate cheese fighting pits and risk nothing as we stand inside with pit kilns killing the mobs or we spear them from our little safe fighting spots. I do like the idea of the new mobs in the storm if there weren't so many. It would add spice to the fight and more risk and not just instant death like it is now.
  22. This happened to me on several days in row as well in the spring.
  23. I've felt the same thing. I hang torches in my iron mine and I can't see them when I walk not that far away. It's bright enough to not spawn stuff but pitch black when I look back to the entrance. I hope someone makes a mod that removes this new improvement. It's overkill.
  24. There are some really horrid spawns sometimes. I spawned on a mountain once with a cliff all around and no way off. Just try a few until you find something decent.
  25. Oh and good news is you will have plenty of hides!
