  1. I think it's a good feature. If you could have iron/steel spears, how would you play ? You would stack iron and steel, and produce all your weapons out of this. And you would forget about bronze age. As the spear is a very powerful weapon, thanks to its attack range, you always want to have one in your hand, and so, you still search for silver, gold, tin and bismuth to produce all flavors or bronze. I like that.
  2. This is Karl and Noah, couple of traders in the heat of the savannah, settled around a ruin with all modern comfort. I don't know if this is a bug or a new feature in v1.15. If you want to meet them, generate the following world with 1.15.0-pre2 : width=heigth=512k, seed=1791128181 and /tp to the shown coordinates.
  3. Not only fences. A few days ago, I perfectly saw a drifter jumping out of the pit (depth 2) in which they fall during the night. There was no snow and no other mob, item or drifter that could have been used as a stepladder. He just escaped ! Most players already have experienced the same thing.
  4. Did you connect the output of the windmill directly on the axle of the large wheel ? Or on the side, on one of the four slots available on the large wheel ? In the first case, that could be your problem. I had the same kind of problem until someone explained that you should put the windmill on one slot of the large wheel, and the devices to power on the 3 other slots (or 2 windmills and 2 devices, or even 2 large wheels linked by their axle, the windmills on one wheel, the devices to power on the other).
  5. Go to https://account.vintagestory.at/ See the last little line "Preview releases of Vintage Story v1.15 (for testers and modders)"
  6. - When loading a 1.14.10 map : ladders not renderred (replaced by a white generic cube with a red question mark on its faces) and not passable (must be broken). In a 1.15 generated world (vanilla game) : - Cannot load charcoal into the forge. I get what look like an empty pop-pup instead. Ingots can be placed in the forge. EDIT : cannot place charcoal on ground, which, in turn prevent to place it into the forge. It seems to be related to the new "drawn art" functionnality which draws hand shapes when you have a charcoal in hand, and seems to take precedence on charcoal placement. - cannot eat a meal in a bowl without putting in on the ground first (the bowl places at the center of the chosen ground block). And once empty, cannot get the bowl back in the inventory. Have to break it first. But if I place an empty bowl on the ground from the inventory, the bowl take place in one corner of the ground block (not in the center) and can be picked up as usual. - item collect mode : even in "only collect when sneaking" mode, if I have an item in the inventory and get close to another item of the same kind, but which lays at heigth 1 or 2, it will be automatically collected. If the item is on the ground (height 0, same level as my feet), it will not be collected.
  7. Many thanks, Tyron, Many thanks to all the team. What a great job.
  8. This is approximately the same configuration as yours. Everything is Ok.
  9. My bad. I thought you were talking about creating charcoal (I read firepit, I thought charcoal pit). That's why I did not understand your problem I'll give a try the same config, to see if I encounter the same problem.
  10. No, I don't think so. The only mandatory device is the trough. You can perfectly roll the domestication process with your animals in a pit, you just have to give them a trough and fill it. I even noticed that animals partially domesticated who manage to escape from their yard don't flee but stay around, probably attracted by the trough.
  11. What is the size of those firepits (x,y,z) ? Are you absolutely sure the wood in well enclosed ? And what do you get with the two "faulty" firepits ? Did the process stop and let your wood as is ?
  12. I just tried with a door. If I move myself, I can change the opening direction. The door seems to always open to "my" outside.
  13. Assuming you play the Windows version, you have a more generic way to remap keys in almost any process, with the powerful tool Autohotkey. In our case, just create a basic text file called, for instance, vsremap.ahk, and put it wherever you want in your homedir. Just put the following lines in it. Xbutton2 (or Xbutton1, depending on your prefered one) will act as LeftControl. if WinActive("Vintage Story") Xbutton2::LCtrl Before launching VS, just double click on your script vsremap.ahk, it will start Autohotkey as a daemon, with your minimal script already active. I tested this script, it works (and I'll probably keep it). Of course, you can add as many lines as you want to remap other keys. Hope this help.
  14. I regularly have hard times juggling with the cooking pot, crocks and bowl when storing food. In real life, I don't imagine myself putting the cooking pot on the kitchen's floor and kneel down to plunge a bowl in it Why not use the grid for that ? The cooking pot always in the upper left corner, and the destination recipient on the bottom line. For example, to fill a crock. But we could seal it as well in the same operation. And instead of a crock, we could serve a single meal in a bowl. The above examples are limited by the single output of the grid. But with a multiple output grid, we could gain more time. Given the fact that the food is distributed from left to right, the left crock would receive up to to 4 meals, and the center one the remaining meals (if any). The left crock (the one which will receive the more meals) will be sealed. Both crocks sealed (if not empty). Remaining meals (if any) in one or two bowls.
  15. Rare ? Not really. But the question is : how to locate them ? If you try the "Spectator mode" in a temporary world, just to see how the underground is organized, you'll see odd things : treasure chest enclosed in a single 1x1x1 cave, and those geodes, totally disconnected from the caves. So, unless you breach them randomly, either by tunneling to find some ore, or mining rock, there is no way to locate them. I don't really understand. Another thing : I always thought that until the current version of the game, the only colored glass available to the player was the green one. Are you sure you really can produce other colors ?
  16. I think that you have to burn a multiple of 32 (full stack) firewood, because you're not supposed to left space in the charcoal pit. That being said, why asking for a minimum amount ? With a single stack of 32, you'll only get about 8 charcoal, and you'll need many many more than that. You should directly build a bigger charcoal pit (at least 4 stacks).
  17. Searching specifically for terra preta can be a waste of time. You'd better consider to explore your world, and when you're in a dirt landscape, try to climb on a high hill, because terra preta can be spotted on a very long distance. It's usually small deposit (I don't remember to have found a deposit larger than 50 squares). Don't waste time and energy to dig randomly around your base, you'll find nothing this way. It seems that temperate climate is a bit too cold for this kind of dirt. On a standard world, i had to walk more than 7000 units to the south to find some deposits, in more tropical biomes.
  18. I tried once, it was made out of copper so it was quickly consummed, of course, and then I realized that I'm cutting grass for the animals with crappy stone knifes, and harvesting crops with hands. So ... I guess that globally, it was not worth the try Same ending with the shears.
  19. Yes, LauriU, your description of my setup is perfectly right. A classic one ! But I was not aware that the rotor has to be connected on the side of the large wheel, just like the hammer or the quern. I will modify my setup to follow your advice, and I'll tell you the result. Thanks.
  20. I had exactly the same behaviour with mine. Despite being connected to a full set of sails and built at z-level 137 with a minimalist set of axles. Even in full wind (value read directly on the rotor), 2 hits then the whole transmission chain jam. I tried to remove the quern that was sharing the large wheel with the hammer, same problem. Finallly, I had to remove the large wheel itself in order to have the hammer starting again. And so, I built a second smaller windmill for the quern. I really think there is some kind of debugging to be done on the mechanical power.
  21. Thanks, PilotDoug, I'll give it a try.

    Compost

You're right. My recipe was too much basic and not really in the spirit of this game. Your recipe is better, clearly. But the key of your post is at the end. Of course, compost should not be a block, but a fertilizer. A generic fertilizer, that increase a small and equal amount of N,P and K. And if you want better, just produce specialized fertilizers. That make sense.
  23. It seems to be proper to your configuration.
  24. Are you sure about that ? For the healing rate, I don't know, but for the hunger rate, I think it's the same as if you you stay awake (and idle, of course).

    Compost

Who actually use compost for farming ? The idea is good, but the way to obtain it make it rather useless. First of all, compost production can only start at mid game, because of the needed barrel. And when you have a saw to make a barrel, you're probably not struggling for survival anymore. This problem is behind you. Second, you need huge amount of rot to make 2 ridiculous tiles of compost. But who can afford to waste such a precious food, especially during the first winter, where you check the end date of every vegetable you have in your unique storage vessel ? In my own experience, I found incredibly more efficient to take the road looking for terra preta and return it home instead of trying to make compost. If only compost had the same productivity as terra preta ... but no. Not even. So, I suggest compost should be accessible from the beginning of the game, with no tool to produce it. Let's put 8 dry grass and 1 rot in the grid to obtain 1 compost. This way, it could be a good temporary way to do an efficient small garden before looking for a better production.
