  1. - If you don't have quite enough copper for your first pickaxe and hammer, try panning sand or gravel. - Cooked meals are much more sustaining than raw food. Prioritize finding clay so that you can make a cooking pot and bowl(s). - Fencing is needed to keep critters out of the garden. High ground outside of the fence can act as an entry route for animals getting into your garden. - Some animals spawn in grass growing on untilled soil, making it possible for them to spawn inside of your garden fence. eta: I once had a 2-high fence in an "L" shape, and was surprised that some frightened/panicked animals running into the corner were able to pile up and jump over the fence (bunnies, iirc). There have been so many changes since then, I do not think this is still possible, but I have noticed that some deer/goats are jumping higher than I would expect when they are frightened. I would consider a corner pointing towards the interior of the garden (as you would see with an "L" shape) to be a weak spot where this might be more prone to happen.
  2. Looks like this has been reported. Is the second photo after you removed them? Did they spawn back in all at once?
  3. I thought the spawn conditions for young animals was dependent on adults.
  4. I don't think there was any mention of a change being made in the announcements here, but maybe it has been discussed in their discord: Discord Chat Server It's also possible that what you're seeing is not intended. It might be worthwhile bringing it up in the issue tracker. If it winds up being a glitch, they'll be able to fix it.
  5. It does look like someone else has reported something similar (or at least it looks similar to me, you would know best). This is what I would do, if I were in your situation: I would try doing a new vanilla installation using the Full Installer, rather than doing an update. Perhaps follow the instructions for Multiple Parallel Installations of Vintage Story so that it is completely untainted by the problematic one (it will not bring forward anything from UserData). If there is still a problem, then file a report using the info from the new vanilla installation. You also have the option of including what happened originally since you would have retained everything from the original UserData -- but that one has so many variables that could be coming in to play that I wouldn't (personally) use it to report a bug without trying a new installation first. eta: and of course preserve a backup of your save game
  6. Wow, I hope you are okay. Thank goodness for Apache's Accessibility Tweaks mod.
  7. I believe the mod, Accessibility Tweaks, can adjust brightness. That isn't something I've tried, and I do not know if it can be done specifically during the drunk visuals or if it is for the overall game. I hope it does the trick for you!
  8. - I chopped down a tree that had a beehive. Come to think of it, I've not seen a hive inside of a trunk in ages. Are those no longer a thing?
  9. It would be interesting to try an experiment to see if the clay is really there or not. Just install the Visible Clay Particles mod and see if you see the particles rising from the ground.
  10. I think it came in at the same time that tree seeds replaced saplings, which was 1.15. I remember how delighted I was to first see one fall (I don't think that aspect had been described in the announcement).
  11. Thank you for taking a look at it, @Byrnorthil
  12. I do not believe you can revert to an earlier version. (sorry, I misunderstood what you were asking; Diff is correct about getting earlier versions from the client area) HOWEVER... you can have multiple versions installed and play whichever one you'd like. @Streetwind wrote up a guide on how it is done: Guide: Multiple Parallel Installations of Vintage Story
  13. Saw this in the wiki and thought I'd try it out: /worldconfigcreate string allowOpenFireFiring [true|false] Whether or not you can fire raw clay items in an open fire instead of a pit kiln. It didn't work, although there was acknowledgement that the value had been set to "true". So I added the one that allows the use of legacy commands (again, acknowledgement of it being set to "true"). Did the one for allowing Open Fire Firing again. Still can't fire items in the firepit. The section both of these are in has this at the top: These configs need to be created first. Subsequent edits to those can be done with /worldconfig [variable name] [value] What does "These configs need to be create first." mean? How does one create them before using them?
  14. Acacia logs will work too (along with oak, as @LadyWYT said, but pine will not work).
  15. I do wish something could be done about the hot springs when playing with patchy climate. I reported this last July - with geologic activity set to "none" there are six hot springs close to spawn.
  16. Oh! Thank you for the intell. My information had come from some players on a multiplayer server (a youtube video) where they were bemoaning the fact that it had been changed.
  17. It used to be true, but not anymore. I think it was changed a couple of years ago.
  18. I'm so sorry that you lost your journal! I no longer remember the default location of the save files, and I've no idea if what you would like to accomplish is doable. If you do not receive an answer here, you might try asking in the discord channel. Here is the invitation link. For the future, it is possible to stop time by using the command: "/time stop" [restart with "/time resume"] (don't include the quotation marks) I hope there is some way to get your journal back. Best of luck!
  19. Now that I think about it, I probably travel less than most players. Maybe that's the difference.
  20. I'm curious, because I have not experienced this type of terrain but you see it frequently. Do you tend to change any particular worldgen settings during customization? (until recently I've been using default settings)
  21. Using the customization option for "Patchy" climate will give a diversity of biomes.
  22. Has something been said to make you think that? Gosh, I do hope they will do a bit more with it. I imagined that there might be a bit of resistance from the fish once they are hooked. It would be nice to have hooks.
  23. I suppose those without a coastal start would have a harder time finding enough bodies of water to duplicate your experience? I don't know how fishable small puddles are at this point as I've not installed stable yet.
  24. Actually, looking at it closer, if the outlining of the treetop and tree trunk were softened a bit, that would solve most of the issue I have with the new design. To me, that outline emphasizes a harsh blocky-ness (and cartoony-ness) that I associate with MC rather than VS. eta: and by "softened" I mean lighter in color
  25. I'm glad that a possible redesign of the logo is being considered; I've been noticing lately that it seems rather vague and dated. Although I voted for the new design, I'd prefer a more 'painterly' version that eliminates the extremely sharp edges of the new version. As it stands, the new logo does not match the more refined (less cartoonish, less Minecrafty) aesthetic that Vintage Story has developed over the years.
