when will we get the combat overhaul update ?
MirthOfManus replied to Veronica Hohenheim's topic in Discussion
Soon(TM) -
Hello y'all, Something I appreciate about this game is the detail put into many aspects of the game. This certainly extends to the doors which have swinging animations, custom sounds, and more size variants to account for many use cases. One detail I feel may enhance these blocks is on the 2x2 and 2x3 gates which feature a small, what I call, window. Being able to open these small hatches and interact through them (similar to hatches), would add an, albeit, small but very appreciated detail to these blocks. Additionally, being able to bar all the gate blocks would be a very neat detail. Hostile creatures cannot currently open gates (thank god), so this would be a cosmetic addition for, I imagine, mostly role-play purposes. Possibly in the future, barring could serve some functional purpose in blocking hostile creatures from entering whatever area the gates are protecting. Overall, these changes would be small and not currently serve a functional purpose but, is something I would personally enjoy seeing implemented at some point. I would love to hear what y'all think about something like this! Also, if you have any other small detail changes like this, I would love to hear those too! Thanks, MirthOfManus

What is your favorite material to make lanterns out of?
MirthOfManus replied to SnapJelly's topic in Discussion
Haha I find myself seesawing between ease of production or drip. For ease of production? Copper by a mile since it's quite easy to obtain. For drip? Whatever materials I have the least of! I could make a bismuth bronze lantern for me and my friends but now it's common so maybe I'll make a silver lantern. On and on it goes for essentially every metal you can make a lantern out of. This seems to be pretty consistent for a lot of players lol. -
As everyone else has said, minmaxing is a very easy trap to fall into for any game and I suspect a good amount of people who play this game tend to optimize the fun out of their games and then drop the game when they reach iron/steel. I have certainly done this before and wondered why I was not having fun with such an amazing game. I am of the opinion that when someone reaches the steel tier, the game does not have much to keep people around other than building. I love building but, unfortunately, for me, it is not a strong enough reason alone to keep playing for an extended period. I think part of the solution is as the others have pointed out, is just slowing down your race through the metal tiers. This seems to be an inherited behavior from that one block game which Vintage Story is not built around. You will, inevitably, reach iron/steel though so what do you do once you reach that point? Until the full game is out, I am not sure there is a one stop solution for everyone which is why I think mods fill this gap nicely. I have the VS Village mod by Gerste which provides a motivation in the form of town/city building and management. I will not get too deep into it for the sake of brevity but it has provided a whole new mechanic for me to interact with and plan around which gives purpose and motivation to my building and resources. I recommend you find a similar mod which allows you to be creative while still having a purpose other than decoration. Thanks, MirthOfManus P.S. Taking a break from the game is never a bad thing. Letting yourself get excited about playing the game again and maybe making a long term goal could help with your long-term enjoyment.

STEAMOS - updating DotNet from 8 to 10 for the update
MirthOfManus replied to StarryNotes's topic in Discussion
Unfortunately, no. Are you attempting to run a VS server on your deck or just trying to play on the deck? If the former, I had success putting the export DOTNET_ROOT=/home/vintagestory/.dotnet export PATH=$DOTNET_ROOT:$DOTNET_ROOT/tools:$PATH from the /.bashrc file into the server.sh file but I am not sure how helpful that is for someone just running the game. In case this does help, another change I made was further in the server.sh file. INVOCATION="/home/vintagestory/.dotnet/dotnet ${SERVICE} --dataPath \"${DATAPATH}\" ${OPTIONS}" PGREPTEST="/home/vintagestory/.dotnet/dotnet ${SERVICE} --dataPath ${DATAPATH}" This had solved my problem of not being able to run commands for my vintagestory user while in my main user. There is almost certainly a better way of doing this but I am not very knowledgeable about steamos/Linux. Hopefully this helps! If not, hopefully it'll help someone else attempting to do something similar. Edit: From reading, it seems like Dilan Rona seems to have a good script. -
STEAMOS - updating DotNet from 8 to 10 for the update
MirthOfManus replied to StarryNotes's topic in Discussion
I have had some success downloading DOTNET 10 as the root user which then the rest of the system used. I can't remember exactly what I did for the environment variable but it ended up working. I am unfortunately not incredibly familiar with steamos version of Linux but I will update this reply if I can recreate what I did. -
Posting this story by the recommendation of @williams_482 Wrath of the Cabinet God I was recently on a server with a couple of friends and was excited to play around with the new cabinets being introduced in 1.22. I had made one to show to my friends and had gathered them in our smithy to display this feat of technology. To herald in our new-found wealth, I proudly state "Behold, your new god!" while placing the cabinet which was immediately followed by both of my friends games crashing. While initially one might think this a simple bug, twas the wrath of the cabinet god who had deemed us not worthy. We quickly appeased the deity by putting gears and gems in said cabinet and made burnt offerings. Let this be a warning to all those who do not respect the one most veneered! They are not kind!

I have similar specs and I have had similar issues. Wondering if it's something with AMD CPUs? I have noticed that, though I still have stutters, it noticeably less with a vanilla game than with mods so something to do with RAM? I am by no means a computer scientist/programmer so not sure how accurate that could be. Definitely will follow the thread in case someone has found a solution!

Hey y'all, I've recently been playing on a server with a couple of friends, and it seems we've come across a bug with cupboards in the new update. I was excited to experiment and play around with the cabinets and had made one to show to my friends. I gather them and said, "Behold! Your new god!" and placed down the cabinet which was quickly followed by both of my friends' games crashing. While initially quite funny, I can imagine this could be annoying on other servers if this issue is repeatable. Have any of y'all experienced this? I will submit a ticket on the github as soon as I'm done here I just thought I'd post here first. Thanks, Snarrlord

Rapids should flow farther than regular water
MirthOfManus replied to williams_482's topic in Suggestions
This is a great suggestion! While I don't have much to add to what you've said in favor of the increased flow distance, I will say this has made me realize how useful aqueducts could be in general. Instead of needing to establish a base or outpost near a rapid to properly utilize it, one can transport it long distances to use it where one might prefer to build a base. Though, if rivers are implemented with rapids, it might decrease the usefulness of aqueducts since one can just park next to a river and use that for power rather than the transported water. I will need to look into how feasible they are now since the source of the rapids tend to be high up which would aide in constructing an aqueduct already but the potentially long distance one would need to transport the water might make the five block flow distance quite anemic. Thanks for posting this! -
It has its purposes for single player it just depends on how the person plays. For instance, I like playing with class specific crafting recipes on since it adds challenge as well as some utility to traders since they can have class specific items in their shops. I think, personally, it just adds dimension to how folks play.

I agree with @SeaWarriorSon! It will be quite challenging but the pay off will be quite satisfying. Were you thinking Jan or something like October? I will also say the berry bush changes might affect how well the run goes but, at the same time, I'm not sure! Best of luck seraph!

I always felt owls would be an appropriate addition to the game given their mysterious and somewhat haunting nature. Being able to see the reflection of light on their eyes in the dark forest would be quite neat. I am not a game developer but I imagine they might be quite difficult to implement in a satisfying way. Birds overall would make the world feel a lot more alive in my opinion and I hope they add a wide variety in the future.

Well that’s what’s confusing. I don’t message in that discord at all! I don’t know what I could have been banned for if I don’t even message in there. Is there a way to appeal a ban? Also a vpn should’ve worked while joining though tho that’s weird.

Hello! I have recently had to remake my discord account due to a hack into my old one and I, unfortunately, cannot seem to join the discord server for the game! I've tried pasting the link directly, using a VPN, trying the link via the game, trying the link via the forums, I've tried it all and it won't work for the life of me. I, most likely, have not been banned so I am not sure what the issue is other than it being on the discord's side. Anyone else have this issue? If so, what did y'all do to fix it? Thanks! Snarrlord
