  1. I'd like to formally suggest and request OPTIONS to enable/disable a FORM of LookZoom as provided in the mod Zoom Button Reborn, as well as integration for single block "step up". I'd like for these to be integrated into the game in a way that is allowed on all servers. As it stands for me at least, each server is different regarding Zoom Button, and the version of Step Up I'm using isn't working unless the mod is integrated server side. I shouldn't have to explain or justify any of this. Regarding Step Up, it's 2025 and pressing space 100000000 per game session just isn't going to bode well for us as we go on in life. This should have been a feature from day one imo. I have no clue how any of you play like this and when your hands start hurting later in life, remember Shasta told you so. Regarding lookzoom it's a little more contentious I suppose, but the fact is that some people play on smaller monitors and notebooks... I think I saw people talking about playing this on steamdeck?? ... either way, with smaller screen SIZES (not to be confused with resolution) - it's hard to see details even a modest number of blocks away in this game. The Vanilla implementation should use the same exact FOV method to save resources, perhaps with a slightly weaker Zoom. ...Spotting crops, resin, wolf ears/tails, drifters - isn't going to imbalance anything imo, if anything it will make the absurd world gen make some mechanical sense - where the superfluous amounts of crappy shrubs absolutely everywhere would significantly reduce the usefulness of the Zoom - until a player sufficiently homesteads an area. ...It's a good idea it needs no more justification imo. Look I'm aware that this is the internet and likely some people feel like their identities are entwined with this game. Many people online try to challenge others just to waste everyone's time, but not me - this is my statement and it's complete. I CERTAINLY don't EXPECT ANY attention and care from the staff of this project - especially considering the plodding cadence of updates... Never the less - these 2 features would help make the game healthier and more comfortable for players (aka Customers) of all ages and even those with smaller scale gaming setups. That's Objective. See you busy bodies on the HIGHGROUND
  2. SUP /// I posted here a couple months ago, a few spergy replies after my tangles with Early game starts on a vanilla server I hosted. Things I take issue with are the default setting of strength for animals (too high), and the spawning of wildlife particularly wolves and bears being ....cryptic... at best... Here are the things I learned for myself after my fanatical fundamentalist sermons, some of them were craftable items that I wasn't using/considering i.e. Wood Lamellar vs Improvised etc etc This is shared with new players in mind 100%, since I learned all of this myself and I've found this forum to be less than helpful in most regards. I'll try to keep this short. ---------- Newbs / people who struggle to survive Wolves/Bears without nerd poling --------- The Devs themselves talk about this game as an Early Access game. They don't balance anything, instead they leave it up to you to set up your game world. Even if I was some kind of elitest / purist, playing alone has no honor anyway, so learn the game and have fun. At very least you'll survive long enough to learn the game and refine your starts before jumping into online play. Get "ZOOM BUTTON-REBORN", it's a mod on the official mod database. It will work on servers and in singleplayer - giving you a really nice way to look out and see what is around you. Scouting for resources / threats is important, I have no idea why something like this isn't vanilla.... lazy? WORLD CONFIG Customize your world, and set Player HP to max, Healing to Fast (it's not fast), Hunger to 75%, Food Spoilage to 75%, and CREATURE STRENGTH to "Weaker" 50%... You CAN CHANGE all of these later via console commands. The Big 3 Look up Improvised Armor, ROUGH SHIELD, and "Wooden Lamellar" bro f me I'm American. Whatever - it's Wooden Armor, dunno why these hippies can't just name it what it is... Rough Shield is likely the most important for new spawns (the "tutorial" is a joke and I haven't seen it mentioned there) ...Even though it's a little annoying to see in the offhand during the entire early game, it WAY makes up for it with the damage mitigation. Crouching when blocking buffs the block if I remember correctly, check the wiki / handbook for these 3 important items and learn the recipes. ....Know that Wolves will spawn in packs of 3, one wolf can basically one shot on 100% Damage even with improvised armor, and Bears are an instant 1 hit even with armor, the shield is your only saving grace and - it's not really enough on default 100% damage, you'll need to "nerd pole" in order to survive solo. Decreasing damage by 50% sounds like a lot but in the case that you have awful luck with wolf spawns / LIKE TO LIVE IN THE FOREST - well, set damage to 50% and be happy. Go looking for baddies to fight when you are ready, there are a lot more than just wolves! Also consider: Drop Items on Death > Keep Items on Death, since, monsters spawn based on a few factors that the game doesn't tell you at all about - and you're really likely to get monsters inside your home in the early game if you are away from your house long enough for fires to go out. You can change this later with console commands, google "Vintage Story Server Commands" Along the line of monsters, do you like the pristine nature of the game and want the surface to maintain that natural beauty? Turn off "Temporal Rifts"... honestly by default I find them really annoying more than anything - making this wonky crappy sound, and they spawn all around your house all the time, so listening to them and the monsters is torture. Monsters will still spawn, they'll mostly be in the caves though. Lastly, I set tool durability to 200%. It's a little op but I'd rather the early game be a little less hungry and daylight is limited in this game. This makes flint and copper last long enough that you only really need two flint tools and one copper tool for any project early game. I do a LOT of bushwhacking with axes so - this is a very helpful setting for me. I can clear the land, find all the bits on the ground, hidden bushes and crops, and after I'm done I can jump onto my roof and SEE wolves when they howl, as well as other threats. ------ SPOILER TIP about CREATURE SPAWNS ----- Cheers LEAVE YOUR TIPS FOR NEW PLAYERS. Take issue with something I say here? Explain why I'm wrong and show some alternatives. Otherwise dislike, cap, crack a joke, massage your ego - it's your life. Enjoy your game.
  3. Trying my best to be as distant as possible here, from here on out.

In short, this game, the administrators of a majority of it's populated servers, and a fair chunk of the playerbase are what I would consider Fundamentalists. It's become an "in club" for people with certain political and social beliefs. The "Correct" kind....  ...The staff are more interested in what you think about other adults' lifestyles than they are in creating a positive and game-focused place to play, and that is acutely apparent even before speaking to any of them 1 on 1, the records of their interactions are pretty plain with cursory discord queries. Many people here are cool with it, I'm not, so screw this site and it's game, as well as most of the playerbase who play along with this oppression-based calculations of Equality. It's not boding well for them, the game is cool, youtubers go ham, aaaaaaaand.... wonder why people don't stick around? Did they read what I've read?....

Regarding wolves, play on 50% creature strength from the menu or use commands to set it at 0.7 there about, to stop yourself from being 2 shot by a single wolf... If you decide to live near ANY TREES, AT ALL, brace yourself mildly for jumpscares whenever you leave your early game hut, because actual Mechanics for creature spawning in this game that is YEARS into EA, don't exist... Wooden Lammelar (God help me, WHATEVER this ridiculous word they chose for this wooden armor) is also important and a great use of your first resin chunk.

That said, claiming that the game is EA, therefor "play how you want" - is weak. There's a world that's been made but I don't see it going anywhere good, call me pessimistic but - the slow plod of updates and the sheer amount of effort into OTHER stuff... Hell even the world gen, play with a world gen mod and tell me that this game doesn't need one of those. And step up, and carry on, and sticks from firewood, Art of Farming crop genetics, more classes, more tech, more food... but hey. We got motorcycle aspirational Elk that are so endgame most people won't touch them without cheats.... and a sail boat that needs a mod to get actual wind and ANOTHER mod to actually sail... otherwise... it's a car?

    Goofy people, goofy game.

  4. Feel like we need a counter thread where we ask how many days players have spent in-game. People who mod their game to a great extent - I feel like they must not have time to play after testing, and that all the options can cheapen the experience, sorta like playing with cheats in a sandbox game feels... That said, I'm not the most technical human, and if someone could peek under the hood and get a mod to do what they want it to do - well - that's a pretty cool skill to have and certainly would make gaming a little more interesting. As for mods I don't use em, so that's a 0 for me. Most of them try to do too much and there is absolutely no telling what conflicts/issues will arise. I wanted a little mod where I could grow and smoke some herbs man. But nah - we gotta have 800 pipes, we gotta rework thread, we gotta add a backpack and stuff, the herbs gotta give wonky buffs and junk Mad love to the modders out there though some of my coolest times in gaming have been with mods.
  5. Can I just add that building big moats and ditches to catch EVERYTHING is also a bit of a lazy approach to "gameplay"? ... My Opinion whatever but ... The ads don't show anything at all like the way people ACTUALLY play this game... and how can you play it like we see on the ads? Hell I can't even turn OFF wolves much less lower how many there are in the world at any given time!!!
  6. I'll offer my solidarity to this post as well, especially since old boy showed up talking about "this post again". I've been playing VS off and on for a while now and I've started my own fair shares of vanilla worlds, done a LOT of early game stuff and - yes - I believe wolves have been and are currently - RIDICULOUSLY BROKEN... As evidenced by any number of posts to the effect, especially those with any screens. The harm is in how other players handle these opinions. Many argue this to the very premise - that the game is somehow totally cool and playable as is. It might very well be for some folks who are interested in solo'ing this game 100% and who enjoy doing whatever it takes to win in a game... Seems like that's a lot of people ngl. Then there are the rest of us, who understand business and products, what is sold vs what is actually provided, etc. Wolves, in their current state - are a JOKE and a BAD JOKE at that. When I buy a buddy this game and pay for a VS server, bring him along with me as we start a mud hut - just trying to sell him on the idea of this game... and 3-4 wolves attack us - honestly REGARDLESS of the save REGARDLESS of biome REGARDLESS of WHERE we base - Once we hang out for a minute and build something - WHOOP THERE THEY IS. This pit has SEVENN wolves. No Mods at all PURE vanilla server, my buddy and I JUST made a dirt house, this is about 100m from our home. Today I tore down the fence because ANOTHER 4 with 2 pups spawned in the woods right next to these. I don't kill the ones in the pit btw since afaik that will cause them to respawn... So there are STILL MORE WOLVES, and this is again - a TINY little chunk of land with NO farming, not any big amount of rabbits or any REASON for there to be THIS MANY PREDATORS... Except ya know "WhooHooo WELP YOU bought the hardest survival game ever MADE buddy what's wrong? - ya ain't MAN enuff to ENJOY the PAIN??" The Devs look foolish. This is a horrible state to leave the game in - and it's never NOT been this way... Personally, I don't play with monsters or temporal stuff... Because I'm WAITING FOR THIS GAME TO BE FINISHED FIRST, and I'm not sure that will ever happen! ....As it stands, when I buy this game for friends: I look dumb. There are patently NOT enough spears and improvised armors available - there is not enough at the start of the GAME, to survive competing every 12 game hours with families of wolves - right outside of anywhere you are especially your base. It's exhausting and completely NUKES early game exploration and adventure! Again - I never play with mods and this is my impression for years, what when did I get this game? ... Years ago. You ain't crazy OP.
  7. oh hey! You like to smoke bath salts and play VS too??!!
  8. Vintage Story is a Sad Story full of nerds nerding on private modded BS servers with 5 players each, everyone off playing 'solo', not a single chill voice channel across any of the servers at all. Play solo, til you are tired of it, then uninstall.

You'll never find anyone in this game to play with and if you do - you'll never see them again.

  9. I want to just agree with ya Cardzy, I mentioned the need for "voice volume" Audio Settings in a previous thread, for creatures and players alike - specifically for these types of reasons. The sounds of the aggressive mobs in this game can be overwhelming at times. AND ... Very frustrating!
  10. Or... the lack thereof? Hey everyone, I thought I would bring this to General, since I've had this issue with the game for some time. There is a bug I just added to the issue tracker, where voices/beards are reassigned to a player upon character creation, leaving you with a different "instrument" and "tone" of voice than the one you choose! So my questions to YOU, dear players, are: Do you USE the high pitched voices? Have you EVER met ANYONE who does? ...did they go deaf? maybe they already were - i digress. Is there any info about the coming character voice/ 'no-more-instrument' rework? Have any of you noticed the lack of voice volume options in the game? Have any of you wanted to create a new character at some point on a multiplayer server, and were astounded that you need to run a server command to initiate this process? Ok, this isn't a crusade, but I honestly do not understand how anyone plays with this bug which I reported. Even IF I am just dumb, and only I have this problem, the presence of voice volume controls in the options and/or character recreation being able to be requested from the client could/would easily solve this issue for me, or at least make it something I could live with. Thoughts? ... cheers
  11. Looking for someone who wants start fresh, who wants to be neighbors and play with the INTENT to play cooperatively... Meaning share resources if needed, back up each other if needed... but otherwise just chill in a voice chat and play Vintage Story on some online server. I have started solo on a couple servers, ideally we will find one we both like and go from there. "Why not host?" I'd love to host a dedi server, name it "BiG SHASTA's BRASS MONKEY", roll up my sleeves, and start spawning wolves on players or something, but ... it's a waste of money without friends to play with imo, and how many of these dedicated servers would be happy to see a couple more players? Probably a couple would be happy to have more online. We'll probably have to settle for some overbuilt old nerd server where a fat mob of chat spamming solitary speedrunners are hording tons of junk and building dcks into the sky but... whatever I guess that's how we have to play these kinds of games. ABOUT YOU: No politics. No religion. Be an adult so that I don't feel like an unpaid babysitter .... Please. Thanks. kaefr on Discord
  12. So, #1, there is no independent volume control for the instrument voices. #2 When you join a server, very often your character menu will BUG OUT, it will have appearance and voice options that are scrambled. You will see that you have "tuba;low" selected, but you end up with an insane ear piercing squeal. You MUST set your voice and instrument, which the menu lags AGAIN often times... and select your voice or you risk RUINING your character. You can RUIN your character.... At the first moments when you join the server! .... NICE!!! #3 as far as I know, you need an admin to run a command to wipe your profile/enable char selection again - but in my experience this command is reported not to work... OR you get to play with this voice, that will severely hurt your ears at every loss of HP as you play... It's kind of stupid how many times this has happened to me - it's been at least 3 times over the last 6 months, just trying to find servers to play on, and I get this character with these absolutely awful options that no one would pick to play with anyway... NO CLUE how no one else is talking about this. I have had to quit servers now, 3 of them, just because I don't want to look like a jerk, asking for them to run a server command for me for vanity - but I play with headphones, there is no volume control - these trash voices hurt if you play with the game at normal volumes. Please, give voices a pass, lower those peaks a fair bit on the high end and add the ability to control the client volume of voices, both our own and others. It's a bug the thing is bugged it shows the wrong sounds that your character doesn't actually have -- it's bugged. The menu is bugged. Thank you thanks
  13. I recently decided to build in one of these spots... gotta say I was hyped for world gen changes but these in the 18 update really weren't working right (or at all, even, couldn't see any difference on new maps) ... I ended up having to manually set the rain for the area, and it's still buggy half raining non stop.
